I'm a cyclist (roadie). When I saw your husband riding the high wheel, the video caught my eye. But now I find myself watching all your videos! Very entertaining. Thanks again for very entertaining videos. (Since you're a writer I hope I used correct spelling and punctuation!) Lol!
I’ve come up with this phrase that I like to use often. “It’s not that people don’t like history. It’s that they have yet to find a way to enjoy learning history.” History is so much more than just a school textbook. There are so many ways one can learn: museums, books, documentaries, live re-enactments, virtual reality, antique shops, and much more.
You and your husband made your dream come true i hope someday to find someone like him to can follow me to my vintage lifestyle. For years i was trying to explain to others that vintage lifestyle is a way of living not just a style
I completely agree with you about your philosophy on learning. Our western culture seems to have this attitude that learning is based in schools and universities and that outside those walls learning no longer exists. I've never understood that either. I love history and I love to learn. I believe that when you stop learning, you stop living.
You and your husband are so great! You just articulated what I have tried to explain to friends and family for years. I am (finally) ordering some of your books. This is my favorite video you have made, and I have liked them all!
I just took a break from cleaning and tuning my newly acquired 1910 Treadle foot Singer sewing machine to watch this video. I’m sitting in my living room on my 1906 art nouveau couch in front of my wood burning fireplace looking at my other Victorian antique furniture thinking this video was very appropriate.
Thank you! Wonderful as usual. Your home are so beautiful! I've started to collect furniture and household items myself so I can (one day) live a more historical life. You have been a huge inspiration for me to realize that I can live this way if I want. And also made me think about starting writing about this time in history. Here in Sweden it's all about Vikings and the medieval ages. I so miss books about the late 1800 hundreds and early 1900 hundreds . So why not write them myself! So again, Thank you!
Sarah! I so love your videos and look forward to each one! I agree completely that learning should be fun and incorporated into our everyday lives! I live by the same principle myself ♥️
Hello Sarah! Another wonderful and informative video by my favorite Victorian! I feel the same way about learning that you do. As a retired teacher, I feel that learning has been made dull by unimaginative teachers. When I was teaching my ESL students, and helping them with their regular school homework, I tried my best to make their lessons interesting, and memorable. I would use artistic creativity to let my kids know how cool it was to learn about the Egyptians, the Vikings, and Canada. Many times I have visited museums, and found that some of the exhibits are truly captivating and interesting! My favorite museum is the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria, B. C. There is an exhibit that is just like Victoria was in the 1800s. You can actually walk through the mock town, and hear and smell what it was like in those days! ~Janet in Canada
I have the same point of view just as you, only that the Greco-Roman world is the history I have passion for. When I stepped into the Roman-Gredk section of the Metropolitan Museum of Arrt, you feel lile you step into a different world.
