Welcome back! I find your honesty about the difficulty of talking to camera refreshing, and you're actually quite good at it, even after the time away.
@@davidmurphy5142have you shared why they were removed? I searched but couldn’t find any context. It’s understandable if it’s personal, but just curious as I am sad to see them gone. I have often rewatched your videos.
David !!!! How great to see you again! I hope you stay for awhile and share your adventures. Funny that you should be reading about wars, I just made a tangential turn from Cardinal Richelieu and Father Joseph and the French Revolution! Holy crap I still cannot wrap my head around all of the people that were killed and the part that religion and the churches played in it. I think that I didn't even realize that the population was that high enough that they could kill that many people. Aldous Huxley was the author and he did and amazing amount of research on the beginning of the Capuchins. I always associated him with Sci Fi stuff and had no idea this was his other genre! I have one more Cardinal R. book and then I am off to another subject. I just finished a deep dive into Greek and Roman Mythology.... how did I ever miss all of that ??? I spent the last 3 months reading there! If any of that peaks your interest try Natalie Haynes she is .... superior. Hope to see you again !!
If you have not read David Halberstam before, you are in for a real treat. Beyond The Coldest Winter, I would recommend The Best and the Brightest and The Powers That Be.
It saw the light of day and how wonderful! It's great to see you back David! It was all that Steve Donoghue's doing, wasn't it? LOL Yes, the dust jacket on The Coldest Winter does look and sound awful. Oh I've seen those Friendly Guides, but I don't recall where or when. That one looks great though! Yikes on the highlighting! I lightly underline things in pencil, but I can erase it if I get rid of the book. Highlighting is permanent! Why would anyone do that?? It makes sense that you'd feel hesitant to talk about being athiest. Some people are not nice when you talk about your personal beliefs or opinions regarding religion and politics.
Greetings. I enjoyed "The Coldest Winter". I think the cover shows Marines, not soldiers, in their "advance to the other direction" from the Chosin Reservoir. I could be wrong though. I found Judt's book to be superior to Kershaw's (I think those are the books you are reading about post World War 2) but then again Kershaw's does extend the time period into the twenty-teens.
Yes you have the books right. I read Kershaw's when it came out but I haven't read Judt's before. I had a variety of issues with Kershaw's the first time and I'm already liking Judt's quite a lot more.
Was about to go to bed when I saw this video notification and had to stay up to watch this momentous event-however short lived. Btw, what are “Sunday scaries”?
It's anxiety about going back to work Monday and the end of the weekend! Very often it's wrapped up with "hangxiety" too (anxiety about your sins from your night out Saturday).
A book with no title and author on it except for a thin see through book jacket??? Highlighting on another?? Seriously. Stop. (insert screaming librarian) Nice to see you again.
I ran out of daylight so the second video I alluded to at the end I’ll film over my lunch break tomorrow!

Was sad a few months ago I was looking for a video you had but realized all of your vids were gone! Good to see you 📚 🤓
I have been utterly shocked how much I've heard this - nearly on a weekly basis. I really didn't think there was anything worth going back to!

Great to see you back. Please continue. This video was great.
Now that you are back, you are OBLIGATED to share ALL of your tedious bookish adventures with us!
and tedious adventures are the only kind I have!

Great to hear from you, David!
Steve convinced you to make another video eh? Great to see you again even if it is only a glimpse.
I was so happy to see a video pop up from you!
Nice video David. Welcome back 😊

Yes, I relate. the NJ term for it is the morbid dreads.
