This technique works great for painting a room also. Tape cups of paint on top of the blades, but only tape the outside portion on the cup so it can flip over when it gets spinning fast enough.

Yep, the top of the motor gets very dirty. The parts where the blades attach, the light. I guess if you have clothespins lying around, ok. I haven't used clothespins in years and have had no need for them. I use an ecloth or swiffer extendable duster for regular cleaning and a tall step stool for deeper cleaning. Takes 5min to deep clean the fan. Add another 5 if I remove the light globe to wash

A lot of people don't like this idea judging from the comments. Let me tell you why I think I will still try this idea.
First off, I HATE cleaning ceiling fans. I am not tall so I always need to find something to stand on, I go through an outrageous amount of paper towels and hate washing cleaning rags so I try to minimize where I use them. This idea would help me because I struggled to reach the tops of the blades on mine this morning when I cleaned this. A sock I could pull tight enough and it will likely clean both sides. The only downside is buying socks. They aren't cheap and I don't often find any at yard sales so maybe this gives people a use for all the socks they have acquired that no longer have mates. I was covered in dust when I was done and spent 30 min vacuuming. If you could find a way to also use a sock to catch the dust at the end of the blade before it falls everywhere, you'd probably be considered my hero. I cursed SO MUCH when I cleaned my ceiling fans this morning. Google must have heard me stressing and gave me this video to watch haha. So now we have socks for the fan blades and I use rubber shoes to clean upholstery. Haha how did footwear end up such an essential part of cleaning? 😆

I dust my fan blades with a pillow case so it contains all of the dust, then I throw it in the washer. Easiest way I’ve ever found to do it. I have a specific cotton pillowcase in my cleaning supplies just for this task. Anything else throws the dust all over everything below the fan.

For kitchen fans the blades tend to get greasy. What I’ve done is use oven cleaner on a rag and (with the help of a step ladder) wipe them off. Comes off so much easier than using regular cleaning products.

    • @treeseneese8655

@@grammyj17988 Unfortunately yes, if the grease is really bad that’s the only thing I can find that will take it off. I own a cleaning business, and we have tried just about everything. You spray it on the wet rag though not on the fan itself.

Easiest method to spray on LA's Totally Awesome 😀concentrate lasts long time $3 large bottle, $1 smaller spray bottle. Cannot beat how this works! Cleaned someone's ceiling fan that smoked heavy and hadn't dusted his fans for 4 years!
LA's Totally Awesome melted away thick dust combined with nicotine, cleaned like a breeze.
Best product on market to clean up dirty ceiling fans!
No need to thank me, glad that I can offer clean advice.

Anytime you clean your ceiling fan (not this way!) ALWAYS CHECK /TIGHTEN ALL SCREWS ON THE BLADES AND BRACKET TO MOTOR SCREWS. THE SCREWS TEND TO LOOSEN UP FROM VIBRATION WHICH CAUSES BALANCE ISSUES. + FOR SAFETY

I'd just use a swiffer duster pad and get everything off on one sheet without ruining a sock or a load of laundry. Plus then you can just throw it away and it costs very little per pad.
