Siegfried, you look remarkably like a very good friend of mine, so I'm inclined to like you immediately, but the fact that you are a very talented performer, and have a very good stage presence, even in your non-native tongue, makes you a joy to watch.
man Penn was right you used the middle 2 cards 8and8 for a point where to stop and give them the cards peace of cake the thing is they should get the award back for you lying to them about their suggestion with the waterfall
Was this intimate knowledge of a fresh deck coupled with gaze from Penn after allowing them to study that half deck?

So many of these uploads have incredibly cringy titles and this one was completely professional, loved it.
Memorization is a big part of Siegfried's trick. He truly has an incredible mind. Since the cards were never shuffled, he set up the deck in a way that only HE knows. This way he knows which card follows which. First Penn selected a card and then he asked Teller to take the next card. But when putting the cards back he again asked Penn to place his card back first and Teller to put his on top. This reversed the order of the original set up. When the cards are separated into 2 piles, Siegfried asked whose card is in this pile. Penn said his. Siegfried knowing how he originally stacked the deck would see which card did not belong. He did the same for Tellers card. A simple way to understand this is, take a deck of cards at home and set them up red, black, red, black. Have someone pick one card and another spectator pick the next. Then tell the first person to put their card back and then the second person. When you separate the deck into 2 piles of 26 cards one pile will be all red except for one black card and the other pile will contain all black cards with only one red card. Of course Siegfrieds trick is much more difficult and you have a lot of memorization to do. Very well thought out and very well done. BRAVISSIMO!

While staring at Alison, he showed the deck's top half bottom card to the camera, looking at it on the screen he mentioned when asking Pen & Teller not to show it to, behind Alison.
Nah you're wrong. I actually tried this trick like 4 years ago. At first I tried laying out a pattern in excel then I realized something. Right now gonna be honest i am still trying to rememeber how i did it. But as I remember there is no memorization involve just a pattern
Very simple you can do this trick so many ways nomanica,force ,key card even a crimp it does not matter how he did it because thay all will look the same
it was a mnemonic order 4c, 2h, 7d, 3c, 4h, 6d, As, ... and unnecessary.
8 of Diamonds is after 3 H and before 5c,
8 of Hearts is after Qc and before 6s
Excellent presentation, but a very easy trick to figure out.
How does any of this explain the cuts? Using a pattern with cuts introduces a chance that the trick goes wrong
I have total respect for any magician that even tries to do close up magic/card tricks in front of Penn and/or Teller. To fool them with such a trick puts you in rare company indeed. Great routine!
I think it worked so well because of the waterfall force. That was the most obvious force of all time. It just isn't what he did.

@@austinlogan4247 Penn & Teller are assuming that the trick is based on a force - this is when the choice of the card appears random but it was actually influenced by the performer. For instance, when you say "stop" he actually stops on the card he wants you to choose but does it so quickly that it appears to be the card you said stop at. He could do this during the "waterfall" of the cards when Penn says Stop, ensuring that Penn took a specific card he knew would be taken.
The "force" was a red herring here as Penn truly does have free choice of the card. However, the deck is memorized by the performer and once he knows which card Penn's was next to he then knows Penn's card (and therefore, Teller's card since it was right next to Penn's). It's actually really smart that he takes a peek while Penn and Teller are choosing their cards, using Allison's eye contact as a fake proof that he can't see their card - he doesn't need to see their card he just needs to see where in the deck they chose from!
If Penn & Teller had asked if he could do the trick again except this time have them shuffle instead of cut the deck, or ask him to do the trick with a deck that they shuffled beforehand it would be a 100% fool me. Instead, I believe he just has excellent memorization skills and great stage presence.

@Jason Fry You know 90% of it, but there's that sliver 10% that actually did fool you. I will just say that you (as many of us in the first 20 times) fell for one of the "false clues" he smartly implement in the routine.

I love how penn comes up with these crazy beat around the bush responses that have key words in them that normal people like me have no clue what the hell hes talking about. But magicians hear it and are either like fuck you got me or haha nope
Haha, he used Alternative Energy just so he can use the words 'Waterfall' and 'Force'. Waterfall refers to the Waterfall Flourish that he did. Where he drops cards from one half of the pile into another, like a waterfall. And Force is... Well, that's a term used in Magic Tricks lol.
@@HayashiKaiji I thought ‘force’ might have meant something about *how* he was doing the waterfall. Like maybe he squeezed the cards more towards where he wanted Penn to say stop. Just a layperson guess at the lingo.
I also thought Penn was going to suggest that Siegfried’s stage energy could solve the global energy crisis.
@@GQSmoos In magic "force" is where you are making it seem like your audience participant is freely choosing something but in reality you've made sure that they are picking what you want them to.
@@GQSmoos Force means "forcing" a card on the spectator. In this case Penn implied no matter where he said stop, Tieber would have "forced" the red 8s on Penn and Teller.

SPOILER ALERT:
I recognize how this is done because in 7th grade I memorized the sequence of a shuffled deck of cards. Cutting the cards doesn't change the order.
The card order of all 52 cards was pre-memorized. Cutting never changes this order. He pre-memorizes the sequences of the two stacks the deck is split into. These sequences always remain the same. Any card out of order is instantly recognized when he fans out the cards in either stack. He doesn't have to see the second stack because he has pre-memorized the 52 card sequence.
That’s insane. I’d have trouble remembering the order of 5-10 cards. 52? And then the 2 new decks? Crazy

Got a peak at the card above the two when they were reinserted. Waved the card at an angle when he was talking to allison.
Another thought also could have flashed the card to someone in the audience who would signal to him the card.

He did the even odd split to simply put in a false positive for Penn and Teller to detect. He basically played the game of "you will guess a working method, but just not the one I used"

@@neeko2198 The trick that Juan Tamariz performs is called 'Neither Blind Nor Stupid', and the variation Seigfried uses utilises another advanced method developed by Juan Tamariz and Aronson. Time for some googling :)

Every time I see your performance, all I can think of is that you have an incredible energy on stage. And it's so genuine and happy, that could normally come off as overbearing comes off more like a puppy that wants to go outside and play.

That was a really clever red herring. As soon as I saw the "tell me when to stop" bit, I assumed it was a Force.
Penn's not afraid to deep soul stare a stranger. I love that. I'd love to meet him, I'm a huge fan of his, not only the magic stuff, but his stance on politics and religion. He's a really, super smart dude who always makes me think about things a little differently

I've been binging Fool Us clips for a solid week now, and this is by far my favorite performer I've seen yet! Siegfried, your energy, charisma, and passion absolutely shine! It's not easy to perform close up magic on a stage, for TV, and still have it be this genuinely fun and engaging. Keep it up!
Even if I could figure out the trick, it'd still be a joy to watch you perform. You deserved that trophy.

Great trick! A waterfall force would be too basic a move. The secret is the separating the cards into 2 piles. Instead of making it harder to guess, it made it easier. He knew which card didn't belong in the pile, because they got put into the main pile in reverse order. Penn volunteered the information of which pile contain his card and which contained Teller's. Once he knew that, Siegfried knew the cards. I'm surprised Penn & Teller didn't catch that. Maybe it's their policy that if they don't get it at the first guess, they concede the trophy.

This routine was so entertaining that it wouldn’t have mattered to me if you fooled them or not. I would still watch it multiple times (because you fooled the heck out of me!) The fact that you DID fool them is icing on the cake!
Brilliant trick. He clearly wanted Penn and Teller to think it was a forced choice. But it wasn't. I am 100% certain the deck was prearranged in one of those ways where no matter how many times you cut, the only cards out of order would be the one that they chose. He added some diversionary moves at the end but I'm sure he knew what the cards were when he split the pile. Regardless, the effect is awesome, and thought I couldn't do this trick nearly as good as him, it was an easy solve, which I'm sure Penn and Teller would have guessed second.
He knows what the card is before hand. There’s a reason he does the waterfall instead of pick a card any card

@@billsalcido7878 prearranged deck. . . Once he knows Penns card he knows the next one that was under it. The order of the two cards was switched when they replaced the cards. Cutting the cards does not alter the deck cycle. After he had divided the deck, he knew that the card that didn’t belong in each stack were the chosen cards. Against knowing penns card knows tellers card.
But there were not any peeks required. He really didn’t know what the card was until he looked through the deck split and pulled out the one that didn’t belong in there that was penns chosen card.

This the best Penn and Teller segment of all time. The stage presence, the humor, the nerve to fool them when they are at an arm's length and the essentially classical nature of the trick. Worth many re-watches. Bravissimo.

Many of us can do this trick with the same procedure without preparing the cards before the performance ... but it is interesting that Penn chose a diagnosis that is completely outside the scope of this trick, and it visibly amused the magician himself. This opens up more questions ...
Siegfried is a great performer and I guess P&T just wanted him in their show, so they went for the easiest possible method first.
Very clever mental misdirection the way he gets you thinking about the positions of the cards in the deck, nevermind that he refuses to shuffle at any point ;) and generally very well done! I wonder if P&T more didn't know how to suggest change of order without ruining the trick for the audience as well? "When I do magic I like to know that everything is right where I expect it to be. If I look and something is out of place, I know it must have been moved by someone else." maybe with some fluff?? Or maybe the closeup stage presence genuinely distracted them and they thought something about the waterfall would be more important..

I was unfamiliar with that trick name, but that method is what I would have guessed before the waterfall force. I was unsure of the stack, but figured it had to be (particularly by choosing 2 cards together). It was very well done, and very entertaining. 😎

This is my favorite act on Penn and Teller Fool us! I laugh no matter how much I watch this which is pretty often. Plus I have no idea how he does it!
The deck is not shuffled, he have a periodic order inside it (that order is not ruined by cuts or separation card by card), but the order was irreversibly compromised when the first card (pen) was putted below the second card (teller one). So when he takes a look to the (un)shuffled deck, he can recognise the cards because they are the ones not in order
I was thinking of the CHSD deck but obviously you dont take that on for Fool Us but I'm sure it is a variation with different numbers / suit order, resembles a CHSD based trick but still very impressive
I think you forgot that he never looked at half the cards after splitting them up. The method you described could do a different, possibly related trick, but not this one. Also, it's extremely impolite to reveal secrets to the general public.
@@jamessarrett4169 Well if it is a set order, then he only needs to know one card since Teller's card would be the next one in the order. Had he found Teller's card in the first set, he'd have to go one back to get Penn's
The deck could be marked with tiny numbers to represent an order.
He folded the card when penn returned the card to deck. It is visible when teller puts card on top. Once he knows penn's card, its easy to know tellers card. since he remembers the order. He never shuffled before penn picked the card. Thats why he had to look at penn's card and not teller's card

While talking to Alyson, Siegfried catches a glimpse of the card above two cards that were picked. Assuming he knows the deck order, he from that point on knows what the picked cards were, meaning the rest is all for show.
Probably not. My guess is that he has memorized the order of the deck. When penn and teller took their cards they switched them around and when he split the deck into two it was easy to see which card was out of place.

I gotta agree with the guys on this one. My first thought was a "dribble/waterfall force". That being said, I also thought to myself, "there's no way someone is gonna try to pull such a simple force on the masters and hope to get away with it. " well done!

Usually with a waterfall force, magicians will bring the upper and lower deck together again and or hand the card to the person.

Wow! What a fun guy and a great personality! I think he's my favorite of all the Fool Us episodes I've seen!
This is one that I surprisingly actually understand
He had the cards in an easy to remember order (ex: the CHaSeD arrangement, though in this case it would have to be a different arrangement as the end of the trick would cause CHaSeD to result in black and red piles) then when Penn and teller pick cards, Penn selects first (so his card is on top of tellers), teller second, and then penn’s card is placed back first making his now below tellers so they are reversed in the order. Cutting the deck does not shuffle a cyclical order, the cards are always in the same order (think if you laid them out in a circle). Then when he divides them, two cards will be in the opposite piles due to being switched; those are Penn and tellers cards
Or he just had someone in the crowd and when they both select the cards he shows the card on top of pen and tellers cards to the crowd. the guy just tells him. i think his hair is hidding an ear radio.
@@kraljerik Audience plants are not allowed in tricks. Before the show tricks are explained to a 3rd party magician who judges if Penn and Teller got it correct.

2:10: Sieg sees 6S
4:23: Sies sees 8D before 6S
Teller's: 8H
1:16 8H is right before 8D, which he already knew was Penn's
Sieg cuts the deck before Penn and again before Teller so that the three important cards would stay in sequence.
You might solve it on yr own nonetheless we still love his.
1:16 the 8 of Hearts and 8 of Diamonds are right beside each other in the middle of the spread. So I'm guessing this was a force

Not only is this a clean trick, very well performed (I still haven't figured it out).. But I simply cannot help but have a smile on my face during your entire performance!
