    Three members of Naya Zamana here! Narsaloo Ramaya on the violin, Harry Mahabir on the harmonium and myself, Dennis Mahabir, on the dholak, and, of course, Jameer on the vocal. Sadly both Harry , Nars and not too long ago Jams have gone to the great beyond and I will always think of the great musical times we had together. During this recording, we never saw each other. We were separated by walls and did the recording by ear.

      Uncle Dennis I am just curious but does Naya Zamana still exist in Trinidad or did the band break up? I remember you all played on Issac Yankaran's album Songs to Remember by the Late Yankarran (1966).

      @@riyadhrafique8377 Sorry, but the band as it was does not exist any more. It lasted more than fifty yearsand was a spin off from the Goolshan Bahar Orchestra then led by Ustaad Fakir Mohammed. We were first in about everything in Trinidad and I am proud to say that we entertained many great leaders from around the world. From Naya Zamana which was housed in George Street, Port of Spain, Harry Mahabir went to India and on his return formed the BWIA natiional indian orchestra of which I was also a member. Nice to know of your interest. There is a lot of history in this band. Regards,

      @@tabalchi1 50 years thats a track record no one can beat except maybe Dil E Nadan. I mean that Orchestra had the cream of the crop when it came to musicians- Issac Yankarran (1932-1969), Zora Seesahai, Harry Mahabir (1933-2007) who went on to create his own band- BWIA Orchestra in 1972. Jameer Hosein from Kelly Village was a member of the band- how you guys managed to pull off this song without "coming together" is something else!! This is before my time- I was born in 1989- by this time Drupatee Ramgoonai had come on the scene with Mr. Bissessar (1988), Rikki Jai had Sumintra (1989)- Chutney Soca was in its infancy & the Chutney Soca Monarch wouldn't come until 1995,

      @@riyadhrafique8377 Hi, do you know that classical singer, Yusuff Khan led Dil E Nadan for quite a while? Yes, he sang film songs. He was an original member. History (smile).

    Tāl: Tīntāl, Rāg: Bihāg (that's why this bhajan is often called a bihāg by West Indians).
    Arohan: Ni Sa Ga ma Pa Ni Sa, Avarohan: Sa' Ni (Dha) Pa Ma Ga ma Ga Re Sa.
    The taal is supposed to be Tīntāl:
    Dha dhin dhin dha; Dha dhin dhin dha; Dha tin tin ta; Ta dhin dhin dha.
    But the drummer is playing Dīpchandī Tāl:
    Dha dhin -- ; Dha dha tin -- ; Ta tin -- ; Dha dha dhin na (ta).
    (Alāp) A..a..aym a..a..aym a..a..aym de..da..da.aym.
    (Dohā style): Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī. (2 high, 1 low)
    0. (Vilambit lay, slow tempo): (ĀĪŪṛāīū)
    Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī ho Rāma, Bhavānī ho Rāma;
    achhalā varadānī. Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī. (both, 2)
    (Refrain) Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī. (2 high, 1 low).
    Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī ho Rāma, Bhavānī ho Rāma;
    achhalā varadānī. Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī.
    1. Jagamagā jagamagā; jyoti virājī, jyoti virājī. (2)
    Teja pratāpa; nidhānī ho Rāma, nidhānī ho Rāma;
    achalā varadānī. Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī. (Refrain)
    2. Mahimā agama bhī; apār tumhāro, apār tumhāro. (2)
    (Madhya) Shesha Suresha; he Jānī ho Rāma, he Jānī ho Rāma;
    achalā varadānī. Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī. (Refrain)
    3.Dukha haranī sukha; sampatti bharanī, sampatti bharanī.(2)
    Karanī sakala; kalyānī ho Rāma, kalyānī ho Rāma;
    achalā varadānī. Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī. (Drut lay) (Ref)
    4.(Drut) Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī ho Rāma, Bhavānī ho Rāma;
    (Relā, Vilambit) achalā.. varadānī ..; Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī.
    Jai jaga Jannanī Bhavānī ho Rāma, Bhavānī ho Rāma;

    For those of you who are still fortunate to have turntable records, the LP that this song is taken from is entitled Stars of T & T Windsor Records (1982). It has some wonderful selections by Jameer Hosein, Haniff Mohammed, Issac Yankaran (Wonder Boy) & Sam Boodram. A lot of legends (dead horses- forgive me that sounds very insulting) showcasing their talents. This artform is no different than Chutney or Kaiso (Calypso). What I am trying to say simply is this- all these musical forms are now dead & gone (if not, they are seldom heard anymore).
