- Tidløst og moderne, denne trioen finner nye stier i et kjent landskap. Ikveld slipper Espen Eriksen Trio sin tredje plate ”Never Ending January”, på det anerkjente norske plateselskapet Rune Grammofon. Bandet har blitt sammenlignet med Tord Gustavsen og sen E.S.T. og er særlig løftet for sitt tydelige språk og fargeklang i sine melodiøse stykker. For dette er vakkert og finstemt, med stort dynamisk spenn.
Begge de to foregående platene ble hyllet av jazzpressen og trykket til brystet av publikum over hele verden, og det vi har hørt fra den nye platen er svært lovende. Vi ser fram til en stemningsfull fredag, kanskje til og med romantisk, med musikk som tar tak og flyr deg med til et bedre sted.

I saw them in Krasnodar, Russia. And I fall in love. Fantasticaly feelings and emotions! They create something unreal and wonderful on their concerts. Lyle Mays and Art Lande were doing this in the late 70s. Just saying. I've always mostly liked it.
I had the great pleasure of seeing the trio playing recently at the crucible playhouse sheffield with Andy Shepard. beautiful in a great venue in the round, very intimate. Loved Espen's chords and sensitivity. Also excellent raconteur😄
Simply the best. My favorite contemporary piano trio. I hope they will come and perform in Canada someday.

Music of this kind can be made better. See the aesthetic of Francois Couperin. Music must reach the soul. But there must be alot of information in it, the gracements in the melody. There are much more fast rhythmical notes. Otherwise it will be just boring. There are some tecnical very difficults parts in it, but they are embedded and not obvious for the audience.
I heard EST. They searches this balance, optimalisation for the audience, and found it. Call it Jazz or Baroque, it always has been the same audience.
This trio has still a lot to read and mutch to think about music and audience.
My favorite Jazz Band but the quality video is horrible and the sound to.

Not a big fan of virtuoso chaos jazz myself, but on the other hand, IMO this group is just a thin slice above new age. The bassist demonstrates a degree of musicality the pianist Erikson lacks. It's nice music, but quite unmemorable. Tord Gustafson or the sadly departed Estborn Svensson (E.S.T.) for me, folks.
