- New toys always lead to new tools. In this video I make a tap follower and a die guide for my Sherline lathe.
BTW - Blondihacks did it better.

Eric, you’re a man of many talents and rich in patience my friend.
Thank you!
It’s the little things in life that make the angle so much nicer to obtain. The more one more tools you make the faster it will go. I think that’s the key to being a good maker, having an arsenal of shop made tools at your disposal. Awesome job sir. Sorry it took me so long to watch, I am designing a rocket.
Thanks for tuning in! And a rocket?! That is awesome!
👍💯💙😎🤘
😁
What kind of material are you using? If steel what alloy? I also added this to my list of projects after meeting the blondihacks video.
My Sherline lathe is about as big as I can handle since I have to be able to pick it up and move it.
It is always a challenge to go as big as possible on a tiny lathe.
The body is 1018 mild steel. The tip is 4130 alloy steel only because I did not pay attention to what I was buying. I had a hard time turning that. I assume it was my issue and not a problem with the machine. If I were to do it again I would make the entire thing from 12L14 or 1018 mild steel for ease of turning. Mr. Pete had a good video on making one. It was a fun project. I love my little Sherline. It's big enough to do what I want to do amd small enough to move it around when needed.
@@EricMeyerMaker I never had much luck with 1018. I never seemed to be able to cut deep enough so it always seemed very stringy and rough. Probably technique and tooling issues on my part. I would use either 12L14 or I just got a few pieces of 1144 to try.
I'll have to give that one a try. I just bought some 12L14 hex bar to make some screws for a new project. That shoukd be a fun time.
