    This show is just so advertising of Pnina. While SYTTD Lancashire is never about one designer over another. It's about what's best for the bride, or in this case, actress. And honestly, I consider Randy's gowns far more essential and elegant than Pnina's.

      So true! Also after the designer showed the sketch of his vision I didn't get why they went weddingdress shopping anyway. It fitted the theme of the show much more and was the lenght he had in mind. When they arrived at Kleinfelds and not one of the dresses they showed was short I was a little disappointed because that was one of the only requests he had.

    This was nothing but promo for Pnina and the Broadway show. I’m 95% sure that Kleinfield’s already had a dress that matched the costume designer’s initial sketch, just from a designer that Kleinfield’s doesn’t have a lucrative partnership with. Pnina’s sketch and dress were nowhere near the 1950s style that the costume designer initially envisioned. 👗

    • @rachelplummer4579
      @rachelplummer4579 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    • @sps6374
      @sps6374 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gamerofedge8111I think the point is more a case of tea-length 50s gowns being a constant staple in bridal fashion (often in satin, with back buttons, sometimes with a sash-like belt detail, usually worn with narrow veils or birdcages/pillbox hats/fascinators), and as such they’re common enough not to drag out a designer whose personal style doesn’t call back to that era. Especially when the designer’s style is very controversial and has her taste level incessantly questioned. These dresses are not hard to find at all, and fit enough for a stage show - ask any modern rockabilly/pinup girl ! There was no need to go to that extent of customization if they weren’t set on going the Pnina Tornai route (which was very likely orchestrated through a paid partnership deal).

      I’ve made loads of dance costumes and we often had nude coloured straps to hide bra straps etc but not destroying the “strapless “ look ….also if there was a low back in the design we even made a whole “singlet “ shape of nude cotton Lycra to sew under the bodice so it was stable on the body during all the crazy dance moves . From a distance it would barely be noticeable but stopped any nasty accidents..lol….
      This was obviously just a publicity stunt because the dress the actress was wearing at the end was nothing like the sketch she made ….this was a costume not a bridal dress and any company throwing a play would have several costume designers at call …

      I'm gonna respectfully disagree, my dear! This was a lovely change of pace and the reactions from the play's co-stars and the costume designer was just as delightful as those from the "regular people". Especially Tony Danza, I thought he was a hoot! Seeing wedding dress design collide with costume design was interesting!
      As an aside, if you ever get the chance, please check out the series, "The Good Cop". Josh Groban plays Tony's son and they have the goofiest opposite type relationship. It only lasted one season, but it's a cute comedy and murder mystery show.
      SYTTD has had shows in the past where they had celebrities before and it's nice seeing them as "normal folks", just trying to find a dress for themselves, a friend or family.

    You know this broadway show is serious money when you go to a high-end bridal shop to get a custom dress made. Regular theater shows has someone in the back altering the costumes off stage lol😁🙂... even though she wasn't an actual bride she looked great in all of them🥰 .. and Tony Danza I love him🥰

    • @MsJubjubbird
      @MsJubjubbird 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The producers would have paid for this or there would have been some publicity deal from one of their more powerful backers. Even broadway shows source their own costumes- it is much cheaper than paying for a designer label. Plus wedding dresses take months and months to make

    In the 50’s only the wealthy could have a wedding dress like those. Most wore street length Sunday type dresses, sometimes white, but not always. I know cause I lived way back then!

    How does a Broadway show afford that pnina dress?!

    • @reneelutz6528
      @reneelutz6528 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most Broadway musicals easily have a budget of 15 million or more. This dress would be a drop in the bucket!

    Custom designer: I want a short dress.
    Pnina: pulls 3 long dresses. 🙄
    And I liked the CD sketch more than the Pnina dress.

    • @thinkingbout
      @thinkingbout ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! That was what I was thinking, too. After I saw his sketch, which was much more on theme, I didn't get why they worked together in the first place but after they showed her 4 long dresses not really looking like 50s style I was just confused.

    Yanno bridal parties could learn a lot from these “grooms” and their “bride”
    All encouragement. Never a critical eye. No jealousy
    Just sayin
    When I fit a bride for the gown she has said is hers I don’t allow the entourage to belittle her.
    I say “Now this is her moment so lavish on the compliments”

    I wonder how on Earth we went from a 50s tea-length dress to… Pnina Tornai ?

  • @BasicYTHandle

    Pnina Tornai = gaudy/ostentatious/ugly and ka-ching. Also, why doesn't the Broadway's show's costume designer, um, custom design the dress [himself]? And, then, why is Pnina sketching a design when the Broadway show's designer has ALREADY provided a sketch?

  • @katherineunsworth5170
    @katherineunsworth5170 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think there were more conservative dresses in the 50s. Most of the pics I’ve seen have some kind of think straps, netting, or sleeves. The first one was definitely a reach to be considered for the lineup with its sheer-ish bodice

    • @bonnylouwho76
      @bonnylouwho76 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a costume designer. They were going for the elements if design and fit. On stage it is all about the lines. Often cotton tightly woven broadcloth that can be dyed any color is wonderful for costuming as it is is lighter under the lights and for dancing with the moisture and the make up that can run onto the fabrics. I always line gowns with cotton bastiste or something like that, even bridal gowns to catch body moisture and to keep the moisture from the top layers of luxury fabric if used. Extra sweat linings can be built into the underarms ( as they are in men's suits.) Lycra and Spandex panels can be built into the bodice design in order to provide more easy of movement. All kinds of female support garments can be built into garments as well. Dance bodices have to be TIGHT in order to prevent the bosom from popping out. I am certain that there will be collaboration between Pnina and the costume designer for the show as well.
      WHO CARES if this episode was created to promote the Broadway show AND Pnina Tornai? Broadway is ALL ABOUT the collaboration of ALL of the arts, just as show business is no matter what "stage" you are on!
      I have performed as the lead actress, the supporting lead, been a writer, a director, costume and make-up and hair design, set and painting designing, and staging, property manager, vocal director, stage manager, you name it, if you love all aspects of the stage, then you need to be willing to approach and work it from every angle. to understand the craft and to bring others to the passion of enjoyment, of suspending every day life as the audience and the caste transport one another to many realms.
