I know that it sounds odd, but there was a family owned restaurant that was always packed and considered a local treasure. One of their signature dishes was a Reuben made on oversized slices of dark pumpernickel raisin bread. It tasted significantly better than it sounds.
@helencantimagine Have you tried sourdough rye? Oh my goodness, it is good, especially dark eyes. It's virtually impossible to find so when I do find it I buy multiples and freeze.

Hey Gina, Oh, yes, it is very good. A little more cinnamon would have been nice, but I can always add butter and honey and sprinkle some cinnamon. Oatmeal cookies sound good. I've been thinking about making those, too. There are so many things I'd like to cook, but it's just me here. My oldest daughter, who lives up the driveway from me, will take some stuff off my hands if they're vegan, which I do.

Oh, Amy! I love pumpernickel bread, and with raisins I bet it was fabulous. My sister and I believe there's never been a bread we didn't like!
