The 3rd gen swap works on disc dana 80 dually. I swapped a 02 disc rear into my 97 3500 and did the 3rd gen swap when i did it. Used the calipers from the 02, caliper bracket from 3rd gen, and then just 3rd gen 2500/3500 rear rotors and pads. Going to do the front axle swap with 3rd gen front brakes down the road but right now the brakes are insanely good. I got a wilwood manual adjusting proportioning valve in case it was too much sauce in the rear, but so far feels good as is. Been on for 2 years now.
Slotted and drilled/dimpled rotors are also available for these, and are a serious improvement. Coming from 400k mi towing, and usually needing to change rotors at the same time as the pads... far less cracking and warping, and that is with the cheaper Detroit Axle rotors...
Slotted/drilled have less surface area so they have less breaking capability but they do not fade like solid rotors Cold brake power will be significantly less then solid rotors That's my first hand experience
@@mattk252 sounds more like pad type than smooth vs drilled/slotted. You only lose ~0.5% of the surface area due to the machining. Cheaper or less quality pads have the effect you experienced, but that is not from losing surface area on d/s on a dually. They just don't put enough holes in them to do such as they would tend to crack more in heavy towing conditions. Brake fade comes from the wrong pad before rotor type. Wagner TQ doesn't fade like cheaper pads do, and there is a direct increase in braking smooth vs d/s. When towing heavy, you don't go cheap on the brakes, and then you don't experience less braking anywhere.
Rob I was told that the calipers were the same for the 2000 to 2002 as the 2003 except the banjo bolt I think . I not sure yet but I getting the parts now to do this to the 2001 front axle I have. ..I trying to build a front axle that suits my needs or wants lol. Ordered a cad delete axle today
👍👍... The Dana 70 didn't get disk til mid year 01 or something...have got an 01 that had drum I swapped the rear end for a Dana 70 disk.. swapped my 97 rear drum for dana 70 disk as well... Will have to keep this in mind for my 97,01,and 02 .. thanks man 👍👍
I put 2002 rotors on my 95 Dana 70 but did all the fab for the calipers to mount by using the mounts from a E350 for the parking brake and fords calipers stops way better than drums
Hey Rob, you ever turn down the OD of the rear drums on a 99 ctd to fit stock 01.5 alloy wheels? How critical is the clearance? Can it be run in gear & dressed with a grinder to fit or should I pull the drums & have them turned? Have desent 16in bfg tires on stock alloy wheels I wanted to run on my 99... but won't fit over my drums. Thank Dusty
Hey- My Ram 2500 has a manufacture date of 08/99 with drum in the rear. Off hand, do you know if this brake upgrade works on the front axle in my application?
I’m putting a 2001 front Dana 60 in my 1998 12 valve. What did you have to do for tie rod, drag link, pitman arm and track bar? Are they all universal from pre99 to 00-02?

Sweet. Thanks for the info
how to did the e brake cable work after switching from drums?
Even though I can’t do the upgrade it’s always good to know how all the upgrades work and if I can do them. The forums suck sometimes.
ya i see alot of bad info, thats why i like video's

yes you are right, that will be coming later

Fantastic info! It’s very helpful to get a visual by watching your videos vs trying to make sense of someone explaining it on a forum.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video Rob wonderful explanation on parts compatibility and interchange.
Thanks man

2003 rotors are bigger is diameter. So in turn pads / calipers have to be bigger 😇
Amazing… 👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼thanks I will be upgrading mine soon!
For some reason I didn’t have to drill my brake lines bigger. The 3rd gen banjo fit like a glove

you are right sometimes the info when i talking just comes out lol
@@CUTTERUPROB that's alright man....fuck it
i have an 01 rear drum d70 did you have to change anything with the master or is it as simple as swap the axle & run the brake lines?

I never thought on that, i will have to play with that one day, make a great video
Can you post some pictures or a link to that sir

I've got a 01 2500 srw dana 80 truck. I did the 3rd gen front brake upgrade.
My question is how do I get disc s on the rear? Its drum stock.
It’s not so simple going from drum to disc. I will do some video this year on doing it

How do I convert my 97 Dana 80 to disk?
Videos to come
I have a 01 with a dana 80 and it has drum brakes?
It was a option but most bought with dics. Or some has swapped it
would a 3rd gen front diff fit in a 98?
can be made fit
thanks I going to do this on my 95 4x4 with a 2001 front axle
i think its a good option

So confusing.
What you confused about
Hi sorry. Was hoping to pickup if anything about 94-98 models
