    The aural equivalent of an optical illusion? Quirky? Out-of-kilter? Subversive? I can't think of words to describe exactly the wondrous effect of Prokofiev's music on me. Looking at some of the cover illustrations on these Chandos releases offers a clue, perhaps. Stylised, sharply-drawn, angular....all of this, and more, I find in his compositions, totally unlike anyone else's. And yet, at the same time, the sound created is beautiful (from 23:58, for example). Marvellous arrangement by Palmer here....
