      Nice! I am 65 and still going strong! I do repair on everything from THT to SMD - IE whatever that comes on my bench - and been doing that for 30 years. Keep it up Steve! :-) Well, Alex is a real pro, no doubt!

    You need to give that solder braid and hot tweezers technique a name and get it spreading around the repair circuits. The "Northridge melt"? Or something like that.

    Two Questions:
    1. Is the battery in the ipad/idevice connected when you use the tristar tester?
    2. Is the battery in the ipad/idevice connected when you use the breakout board/testing board?

      My guess would be heat, It lives in a tin can surrounded by other components with no thermal relief top or bottom and is abused daily due to charging.

    I always think you put too much flux, maybe an applicator with a smaller nozzle would be better, that flux is expensive.
