Previous Teacher of the Week winner dies unexpectedly

The Godfrey-Lee Public Schools community is mourning the loss of one of their teachers who was found with a gunshot wound this week.
Carlos Lozano, 33, taught math at Lee Middle School.
School leaders announced his death in an email, saying the loss had already "deeply affected" the community.
The Oceana County sheriff announced Friday morning that Lozano's death is being considered suspicious. He was found on private property in Oceana County on Wednesday with a gunshot wound.
The investigation into his death is ongoing.
Lozano was one of our first Teacher of the Week winners this school year. He told 13 ON YOUR SIDE back in September that he loved every minute of his job, and hoped to retire teaching at Lee Middle School.
The school planned an assembly surprise for Lozano's award announcement-complete with his wife, parents and brother there-and the surprise brought him to tears.
Students said Lozano not only made them better at math, but better people.
Students in sixth through 12th grade were released early and given the opportunity to meet with counselors on Thursday. Classes for those students have also been canceled for Friday.
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade and students on the East Lee campus will still have Friday classes as planned.
