Thanks for Watching~
Ive been using one of these now for a decade, almost daily. Worth every penny.
that was my 1st bag from them, i love it ! Funny thing is of all the vids i've seen of it no one covers the nice lil slash pocket on the inside of the chest strap . great vid
Had mine since May of 2011. In brand new condition. Awesome pack. Got it originally to replace a battered Oakley Sandbag. The Monsoon is by far, the best back pack I've ever owned.
Mine came today, it’s a wicked sling pack. Mine will be used for day hikes.
Because of this great review i orderd one of these from my wife as a birthday present for my 30th birthday.
It is indeed a great pack to use for EDC. I have the black one for the urban jungle.
I bought Monsoon this spring after watching this video and I haven't regretted. I am slim-sized person so I had to shroten the sling four inches (~10 cm), and now it rides perfectly up (hint if you feel it hangs low).
That is pretty much I can complain about it. It works well as a college / gym bag, as well as grab-and-go-party- bag for all the events possible in university. Wonderful EDC(every-day-carry)bag, especially when combined with MilspecMonkey Stealth Admin Pouch. I recommend this one!
Great review, sootch!
"One really cool side note about this pack is in 24, Jack Bauer has one of these in black"
Haha, now if that doesn't make you want one I don't know what will!
best review I've ever seen
I have a Maxpedition Jumbopack EDC. I carry my full size 1911 and an assortment of other stuff in it pretty much every day. Love it.
Wow, I love the quick access! Great review as always man!
I plan on getting this bag and the FR-1 bag from maxpedition, perfect combo of an "Everything I Need" pack with the Monsoon and a Medical bag use from the FR-1 to go inside. Amazing company with amazing products.
It's a good bag it hold up even against rain.
Even actor Kiefer Sutherland use this one on TV show "24".
The only problem is the shoulder strap is not enough cushioning which means do not add heavy stuff on the bag.
I use to do that and within 8 months and I developed a shoulder pain.
And that's not cool at all.
Other than that it's great monsoon Gearslinger.
this is the best review you have ever done imo, i really liked it.
love the look of this pack but it's just too asymetrical for me. i like to be able to switch sides with sling packs. but all the other features of this look amazing, really well thought out
Nice pack. Thanks for telling us about it. Thanks to you and Tem....Tim....the owner if Maxpedition for the discount as well.
I have one of these Packs I won from the first TNP give away and I love it!!! I've taken it hiking several times in the AZ desert. Works great!!!!!! its rugged and is a great size! Its pretty much my BOK in my Truck when Im not out and about.
CANT STOP WATCHING THIS VIDEO!!!!!
Wow bro. A Gun compartment. Awesome.
Seeing the pack used in the field, reminds me of the packs that the partisans used during WWII.
Great looking pack and thanks for the discount!!
have mine 3 years for field work... no problem at all just a great bag all around . ..
Great review Don! Love the detail, as well as the "in action" demonstration! Entertaining and informative. I really like Maxpedition products. Tough and high quality.
Pissh, Jack Bower used it on "24" how about, Sam Fisher used one in Splinter cell Conviction! !!
Hahaha I just bought this bag after playing conviction again lol
I still have and use my Monsoon..this bag is worth the money
Great review. I hadn't noticed some of the pockets until you pointed them out. Many thanks.
from my experience with such sling bags is that if i'm running with them, they start to fly away from the body because it is not secured on the other waist. kinda makes running unbalanced.
but from your review it just looks sexy. plus the discount!, why not!
Very nice bag perfect for all outdoors activity.
I like what you said.
Spend money where you need to. It's a truth.
Having money does not mean anything, you need to know HOW to spend the money you have.
By the way, have a black monsoon, since almost 1 year now. AWESOME
Hey Sootch...when i first saw your review, i really wanted one but could never afford it...until yesterday! There was a moving sale in my neighborhood and i found this bag in black, new and got it for $15!!!!!
oh...it gets better, they also had a Versipack in black that i got for $10. it seems like i hit the motherload. thanks for introducing me to Maxpedition...i wouldn't have known about these bags if it weren't for you.
Ok , Sootch , I have tried 4 maxpedition products , they are all quality well made. This monsson carries very well. After seeing some negative reviews I put this one off for about a year. Sorry I doubted you. Keep the reviews coming. Also I have been carrying the malaga , it carries the weight ok but I think this monsoon is going to be 25% better at least. Just wish I could switch it to other side carry as an option , like the 5.11 moab 10
Just bought the pack today, took me quite a while to find a suplier in the Netherlands. This video conviced me to buy one, thanks ;)
Another awesome video. I never considered a shoulder bag, it didn't look functional. I'm going to check this one out. Thanks Sooch
@fappometer14 Yes it will. First you'll grow into it, and second you can tighten it up as well.
Sootch, thanks to your review and seeing yours in person, I bought one for myself. After 5 years, I finally got around to reviewing it! The downside is Maxpedition is discontinuing it. Anyway, I refer to you in the review, giving you kudos. Regards, Z.
i bought one last week OD green awsome pack. The front molle webbing (where sootch has the communication devices) is also great for dump pouches.
Great review. I don't think I would have considered this product until I saw this review. Now, I'll give this pack a second look. Very nice. Obviously well designed.
@TheGrayman1234 That is where the waist strap comes into play. It takes a lot of the weight off of your shoulder just like one of those good hikers backpacks.
Just bought mine after watching the video! It was on sale for $99, I think they are discontinuing it. I have the mongo which I love! I'm also a big fan of all the add-ons like the Janus pack and all the molle accessories! Thanks Sootch!
I have been looking at getting one of these bags for a long time now, thanks for the review!
Well done and a very good presentation.......but I'm going to wait, because maxpedition gear are coming out with the shoulder strap going over the left side and the one that is out, it goes over right shoulder.
you can´t load it as heavy as a backpack as onesided carry doubles static pressure on your spine. Dynamic pressure is more similar with both variants
Sootch - another well done gear review. I think you just sold a bunch of Maxpedition "Monsoon" GearSlinger packs with this video!
Dan, Unfortunately I did not read your comment untilI after I purchased this bag about three weeks ago. Upon loading it up and swinging it to the I noticed that the CCW pocket was on the bottom side and I could not safely access my firearm. This issue is also a problem with the newly released "S" model which carries on the opposite shoulder. I hope Maxpedition fixes this problem.
I wish MAXPEDITION will make more in vintage color 😢
@sebs30v Try shortening the shoulder strap so the bag rides high on your shoulder and also put on the supporting waist strap. It should help a bit if you don't have a whole bunch of stuff in it.
bit pricey - but you get what you pay for. Foliage Green (ETA: Mid April) is sweet.
Sootch Rocks!!!

This video made me buy my very own pack yesterday! Great review!
Freakin awesome, Pisgah, how about the CCW in the National Parks dude. Love it. I used to mountain bike up in Pisgah all the time. Haven't been in a few years. Marriage and babies put a cramp in my free time. Nice pack, I've got a 5.11 push pack that is similar but smaller. This one is definitely a better design.
thanks for a great review...i just purchased this pack and recieved the 10% discount using sootch in the coupon box ...Thanks again borther!
Just got this bag and decked it out. Serving as my "go-bag." Unfortunately, Going Gear only had the S-Type to sell but it'll be awesome either way. Great review...
Excellent review! There's another Damn thing I have to buy!
Had this bag for a couple months, killed my shoulders and back.
I like my sitka better and I bought mine. nobody asked me to advertise this message. Also if you get a sling pack get the right or left strap dependant on what your dominant or shooting arm is.
I also got the OCTA VERSIPACK and the Liger Gun Belt as well. Their stuff is tough;)
Hey man great review!!
Thumbs Up and some money love!!
Dude, that is cool. I've got to get one of those, sootch00! As always, an excellent review and demonstration, man. Thank you for the post.
I bought this pack back in june, and have been using it continuously since then, it's a great pack, but it definitely has it's drawbacks, i find it's best for short trips and lighter loads, this thing kills your shoulder and neck really quickly, with any loads over 5-6 pounds or so, the other thing is the pockets on the inside need to be oriented so you can access them while wearing it, also the inside pockets on the flaps aren't very secure, stuff tends to fall out when you open it.
Thanks for this detailed video. I'm considering getting this bag for when I commute by bike. It rains a lot here so that's a serious issue for a lot of bags.
Sweet this will work for me. 130lbs 5'8 14 year old
Very nice review. This is the product I need because I try to use the Jumbo Versipack this way and though I make it work, it won't do as well as this.
good video sootch keep up the good work
@Jasper50 Ahh, I missed that. The Jumbo versipack that I have had for a couple of years does not and I have to swap it from shoulder to shoulder on long hikes.
Cool, good response thanks.
just a great vid!
Cheers from Switzerland
Close, Sam uses the 5.11 select carry. which is very similar to this pack.
looks like a great pack I want one.
I just got a revised bill on my order from Maxpedition. They gave me the 10% discount. Thanks sootch00!;)
I just don't like the one shoulder packs anymore. After several miles the strap on the one shoulder starts to wear on you. Maxpedition is good though. Got a Vulture II on back order right now.
I think I will buy this today great review!
I'm a big fan of your videos. Guys like you and NutNFancy have inspired me to get outdoors a lot more. Just ordered my Monsoon today, can't wait to get out and use it! Thanks Sootch.
great vid and review definitely gotta hurry up nd get one
Nice review as always!
I was ready to pull the trigger on this until I realized the CCW pocket was on the wrong side of the bag. Slipping the bag around your shoulder as designed the zipped pocket designed to hold the hydration pack and/or handgun is facing down. Not good. I'm not going to want to slip the bag off, turn it over and then unzip a pocket to get at my firearm. Good bag for other purposes, but for EDC/Survival it's a no go.
excellent info.
lets hit the woods
nice job on the review...you make some of the best....the best. For my taste. Thanks! i have the kodiak...i nead to make a vid!
dont get me wrong i really like their gear but considering where its all made the prices are just way to high. i try to support US made gear like 5.11
nice review
yes they do. They call it their S-Type. Google monsoon s-type
I used this pack for a month, it hurt my shoulders and back. It looks cool and all but it freakin hurts. I'm back to backpacks with two shoulder straps. This bag will kill your shoulders and back.
I regret it I gave it away to a friend of my after carrying 25 pounds of items that I used it every day that my right shoulder was in great pain, but that was 14 years ago and now I'm up to buy another one in black ⚫
Unfortunately I wanted the foliage green, but they stop making it😢
seems like the straps are in the middle of everything (the zipper, the bottle...)
nice pack scootch... i just picked up a set of fastex clips
that looks rlly awesome
@boonie1994 Don't forget that Jack Bauer carries the black version as well.
i am getting this pack tomorrow!
@MrJohnjake Why not?
cool i definitely like.
Great review, but @ 6:30, why not just use your ACOG sight to check up-hill? :-)
I just order it along with two other items but the discount code Sootch would not work. I put my order through anyway. I did leave a note explaining but I don't know what they will do.
Thats all fine and good but I need to know how many peanut M&Ms it will carry.
I'm looking at going back to school (collage) would this make a good pack for that? I currently have a Sitka gearslinger, i use that as my day pack, awesome pack, im liking the monsoon, awesome video my friend!!
- Jack
Thanks for the great reviews, I got my Monsoon last week. What kind of holster do you have in there? It's hard to tell from the camera in the review.
Love you video straight to the point no BS lol. Would love to hang out with you.
@cookiepwnsU
ik heb hem gekocht bij commandotoko, de site is zo te zien offline voor een of andere reden maar hij valt ook te krijgen bij modisknivesandgear(.)de
im so goin to get for both school & airsoft
Note that his concealed carry is on the opposite/far side of the bag, almost completely inaccessible when rotating the sling. This is *not* a good concealed carry bag.
sold!
Great review. I'm getting it!;)
I am thinking of purchasing this backpack and I am wondering:
a) if it's suitable for everyday use
b) what's the average lifespan of this backpack?
@sootch00
i dont get it maybe i got a US made batch of gear but i have i think 6-8 products from them and all claim to be US made
Is that color "Khaki foliage"??
I watched Maxpedition website but, there weren't same color pictures...
what color is that in. looks a little blu for some reason. anyway thanks for the review sootch. planing on buying one soon
one problem i always had with teardrop shaped shoulder bags is that when you bend or kneel down the bag tends to swing around to the side or front, this can get annoying, does this do that without the belt? other than that nice review, i was actually looking at this bag the other day
I actually just bought this pack after seeing your review. Does it seem like the CCW is on the wrong side to you or have I just not had enough time playing with it?
