  • The #1 problem I see with living in Avon, Indiana... but does it matter? Each city or town surrounding Indianapolis, Indiana has a few things that I would consider at least a modestly negative thing. Dramatic? No... just a modest problem. And, that problem could be extremely subjective. One person's negative isn't necessarily everyone's.. Avon, Indiana certainly isn't immune to this. Avon is certainly a high ranking place to live around the Indianapolis Metro. But, what is the big negative I would take from living in Avon? Also, is this negative avoidable? We'll get into this topic with Avon, Indiana in this video.

I moved to Avon from New Jersey last year and I would have never thought traffic would be bad in Indiana. I was so wrong! 36 is a nightmare during rush hour. It would sometimes take me 45 mins to an hour just to get to Indianapolis for work. With all that being said, I absolutely love living in Avon, the schools are fantastic and everything you need is literally 5 mins away. The trains could be pretty loud sometimes but eventually you get used to it. Compared to NJ the cost of living is so much less. My wife and kids always feel safe whenever I leave for work and you can’t put a price on that. The local YMCA is incredible as well. Avon is an overall great place to lay down roots and live. But I can see why people wouldn’t want to deal with the traffic on 36. Great video!

One other thing I would add. If you don't like trains, Avon may not be the place for you. The biggest rail yard in the Indy metro is in Avon. Granted, the railroad crossings are very few, but there is some horn-blowing and you can hear the locomotives, especially at night and early morning.

It also depends on where you live in Avon, if you're going to like target or something then yes you can hear it but if you live further away from the trains then it's not a problem.

New Crawfordsville Road is a great route into downtown. Also, Ronald Regan Parkway is fantastic! Love the Avon parks, thanks for helping us.

My office is just east of 465 and just east of the airport. I live a few blocks south of the entrance of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park, a two and half hour drive to the north on Lake Michigan in Porter, IN. For reasons that don't make sense, the CEO doesn't allow work from home anymore. Avon is close to top of list for new home, but as you say here, 36 would be a big problem with that, even with the new road expansion near Meijer. Plainfield is edging out for my pick just from that road issue. Been watching your videos for over a year and really enjoy them.

Thanks for watching! I'm a big fan of Plainfield. I'm keeping an eye on the new Hobbs Station development

Living in Avon, I always avoid HWY36, instead I take 100S, 100N, RT40 in Plainfield, I70 Plainfield ... lot's of alternative routes to get to Indy ...

For sure. You can "dive" in to 36 when necessary.

Those trains are heard in every corner of the town and I can even hear them in Plainfield

@@LivingInIndianapolis I will check it out! I just moved to Danville and it is growing quite rapidly. The Avon amenities keep inching down to Danville. Tons of homes are being built out here and it’s pretty cool to see its growth! I’d also be interested in hearing your thoughts on the expansion from your last time here! Keep up the good work with your videos, I love your content!
