I built a 401 for my 74 cj5 with 1970 291c heads , port clean up & some bowl work , stainless 2.08 intake and exhaust valves, custom 9.5:1 pistons, scorpion roller rockers, comp cams springs and a comp 268H cam , Edelbrock RPM intake , Holley 670 cfm truck avenger carb , custom ram air intake , ceramic coated headers with true dual 2 1/4 flowmaster 40 series mufflers and 4.10 geared power lock limited slip custom built semi floating Dana 60 rear diff/ custom built high pinion dana 44 front diff and 32 /11.50/15 mud terrain tires. I definitely didn't think it through . It's ridiculously powerful and can literally pull the front wheels a couple inches off the pavement while turning the rear tires into a giant white cloud of fried rubber . I have not dynoed it but it's a bunch meaner then I had anticipated

my son has a 70 Camaro and a 73 dodge tuck he is waiting for me to fix I tell him lets go and he use to say what do you mean. dads is not going to restore or fix your car for you but I will defiantly help and guide him to learn to do it for him self. my dad did the same thing and I am a professional; mechanic or have been one for 30 plus years now.thanks dad

The newer power steering pumps have the hydra flare for the pressure line, you can swap the fitting on the back where the line screws in from the older pump to newer pump so you can use the original double flare line. Did a lot of them in my youth, I swapped a lot of gm g bodys from v6 to v8 power

Also, you can have hydraulic line made, they just won't have the section on bent tubing like the factory uses. Unless it gets too close to the headers you might keep that in mind. I made a lot of hydraulic lines with the line press, and we made all kinds of of hoses. Good luck!

what 65coronet1 said, just pop the fitting out of the pump and swap em (its also the pressure regulator so be wary of the spring and valve behind it).

78 and up was when the factories started doing that funky hybrid bolt crap. 78 and newer pumps used metric mounting bolt holes but that pressure fitting was SAE even on the metric bolt hole pumps. Which ever pressure fitting you need for your build, you can screw it into the pump you will be using, I'm sure there all old enough to where you won't get a combo that won't work. Get this, the pressure line that has that o-ring on it is for the metric bolt threaded pumps and has SAE threads on the fitting that screws into the pump but is considered a metric pressure line to match the metric threaded pump. Ain't that the shit. OK, to make that so called metric pressure line fitting to work with the old flared type pressure line, the brass part in the pressure fitting that is in the original pressure fitting from the original SAE pump can be pulled out using an easy-out and can be put into the metric fitting but would be simpler to just swap the fittings because all the threads are the same, LOL. Got it, LOL.

What about a threaded rod with a sleeve over it? I like the stud idea, but would a grade 5 threaded Rod with a levee over it, like a spacer, be strong just had to ask. Looking forward to seeing you make a stud.

In regards to the home made stud... why wouldn't u just run a die down the opposite side of a cut off bolt

I'm having a lot of trouble getting my thermostat off of my 290 and engine. What's the best way of taking it off and putting it back on while the engine is in the car with everything off it
