It really is a shame that Babylon 5 has seemed to be forgotten. A reboot of this franchise would be awesome. Sadly, no matter who they got, G'Kar just wouldn't be the same.
Matthew Jachimstal I think it should be remastered rather than rebooted. The casting was essentially perfect and the actors really put their heart and soul into their roles.
I wouldn't want a reboot either. Plenty of other good stories in the Babylon 5 universe that have not yet been explored. Simply the best ever science fiction tv show, I cried at the end and wanted more.......then found the books that completed the saga. I STILL watch it from beginning to end.
This is the best there ever was. It's absolutely epic and the arcs are still current, actually now more than ever. Mollaris' story was the most significant for me. Seeing his opportunities to be such a great architect of peace consumed by consequence and darkness was so sad. awesome show, action packed, fun, funny and emotional at times, very well written too which isn't surprising if they had Star Trek TOS writers....also a rest in peace to those involved with the show no longer with us, you're missed and remembered, much love......
Well, CGI is pretty solid even nowdays. At least I'm not ashamed of it, the only thing bothering are explosions in Season 1 and they were fixed in Season 2. I'm much more bothered with some sets being too small, which is practical, not digital.
You don't really "clean up" the CGI. You'd really have to do it from scratch Especially since they lost the original 3D scenes or something like that. I'd like to see a fan project to remake the effects. I actually started to learn 3D animation 20 years ago using free fan made high quality babylon 5 ship models.
I loved this series back in the day. It had a great combination of story telling, seasonal arcs and fantastic (for the day) CGI. This show simply would not have been possible without the Amiga, Lightwave, the GenLock and ScreamerNet network rendering (which together made up the Video Toaster).
I remember this show was always hard to watch.... it was on in the glory days of syndicated shows- It usually aired on Saturday nights, 1am, sometimes 2am. I would come and finish my night off with this...if I forgot to record it and watch it Sunday morning.
I remember at one point it was so hard to find that I thought it had been cancelled. I didn't find out until I read an article about the show in one of those free tv guide things you could get in grocery stores.
10:49 "Most space battles look like a TV Game..." Ironically, my first impression of Babylon 5 was that the CGI kind of reminded me of old video games; but what he's saying is true, it feels like a film sequence, or a cutscene, and less like the kind of bird's eye view in an RTS or something. Now that CGI is so cheap and ubiquitous, it often gets misused, but the scary thing is that the best uses of CGI is when you don't notice it.
Just when you think you have a solid as being a villain, they do the hero and when you think a hero you get a villain or maybe a mix or an antihero(ine). Like G'Kar and Londo enemies to best of friends; Sheridan and Delenn weapons at each other to lovers(can't remember- they have a kid?).
Bester was one of the best defined villains ever in a TV show and beautifully acted. Koenig was a dream cast, physically unassuming and almost harmless looking, which only added to the incredible creepiness factor that character had.
The amazing thing about Bester was that he was the villain you loved to hate. Such a full character and most of that was down to Walter Koenig. Whilst Joe wanted the other actors to follow the script, Walter was allowed the liberty to ad-lib and he showed what a great actor he was at the same time. The amazing thing is that originally Joe wanted Walter to play a part that would have been a single episode, but after Walter's heart attack and recovery, Joe wrote an even better part and Bester was the best Sci-Fi villain I've seen.
t strikes me that Garibaldi is kind of like John McClane in space. When Garibaldi tells Londo that he is glad he didn't have to shoot him because of the paperwork, I can easily see McClane (Bruce Willis) saying the same thing.
John Fuentes Garibaldi was definitely the space-McClane. He suffered from many of the same personal issues. Including a failed marriage and a drinking problem.

ALTHOUGH it says made in America, 2 of the 5 Seasons have the same quality as late 50's, early 60's, Japanese Science Fiction and Karate movies were known for : you would see the lips move, then here the voices, or the other way around. B5 and Battlestar Galactica(2003) are the only sci-fi series worth watching. They both have a complete story arc that wasn't just canceled at the end of a season.
Eh, Battlestar Galactica has a very faulty story arc. The writers didn’t know where to take things after about halfway through season 3. It’s still good, though.

Fun fact: all episodes of the freakin babylon 5 was done by videoToaster (the very first personal video editing software) for the commodore amiga computers
Well, technically the pitch, pilot and first season. After that they moved off Amigas and on to PCs. Absolutely revolutionary at the time though. So easily forgotten...
No reason to... No one would have cared because his character had not been introduced yet. He announces his role in the show at the end of this video. But, if you meant Chekhov's voice, then yeah. ;-)
Actors are the only people who matter. Everybody else is a replaceable cog. Actors are special, different, and better than the rest of us. They can evoke thoughts, ideas and emotional responses that the masses cannot understand, duplicate, or even comprehend. To even try to understand what goes on in the superior and creative mind of an actor is simply not possible.
Unlike Star Trek the Next Generation that seemed as if it had so many plotholes they all converged into a black hole Babylon 5 had a beginning a middle and an end!

ali Servan Sadly, that is probably not going to happen. Appearantly, they lost/deleted all of the 3D renders for the ships, planets, ect. That would make a proper remaster a massive and expensive undertaking. Imagine how blocky and jagged the CGI would look upscaled to HD or 4K. Still. I am currently re-watching the series on Amazon Prime and I hardly notice most of the aged special effects. Babylon 5 is just that immersive.
Wrong the whole series especially when you know some who where in there making it. You know its funny .when pcs people think they can do that quality know they pcs people lie a,and say they did all the stuff Amiga did..really now Im sure you will say the Amiga never was in the Toaster oven or toaster screamer.get a life. What was one quote from Mik ..i had to use the toaster over with the PArisc /Alpha /SGi combo in the toaster Screamer/oven that was/is only amiga based. in the every season or it would have taken me years ..it was a joke ,but long time none the less. That was first hand account from one of many who made that show and Jurassic park way after the show ,and in the newtek mag.. oh and what made the Dino Movie from Disney world. .Amiga..,and Avatar that right.. So everything you guys claims is new. hairs and such is, and has been done on amiga ,but better pfft. Read the last of credits Yes they still use the classic amiga..why its the best period .Im not saying there are 50 million of them, and thats all they use.No ,but its there. Plus ,here a hint in the background when you see a or what looks like a smiley face on a system or a monitor ..Thats an amiga in disguise .It says powered by Amiga. That was on the Avatar movie and Titanic movie.oh booh who when you find out what the amiga is called now . you will sh^& bricks ,but booh who thats where u get the many core tech ...I dont want to here any bs anymore you pc or amigas wannbes can lie so much its so funny. Really, i was at newtek with the engineers they have said the exact same-thing. Amiga cant be beat period. HERE ENDTH THE LESSOn
Optimal Supreme I don't care for your childish, condescending tone, but whatever you (incoherently) present here as facts is simply not true. 1. I also know people that worked on the show, one being Adam Lebowitz. 2. Amiga (A4000+VT) hardware was used for the pilot and the first season. Foundation Imaging switched to Pentium/Alpha-based machines when season 2 came around, later followed by SGI workstations. 3. Lightwave was used on Jurassic Park only for animatics. The actual CGI was done in Alias/SoftImage and rendered with RenderMan. 4. No Amiga hardware was used in the production of either Titanic or Avatar. 5. I've also met some of the people behind LW in the early 90s, Allen Hastings and Tim Jenison. 6. My first DEC Alpha workstation (running Windows NT) in 1995 rendered about 30 times faster than my fully upgraded A4000. DECs also reportedly outclassed the Screamer, at significantly lower costs. Let's take the rose-coloured glasses off and face facts. I loved my Amigas(all of them), but by late 1994 it was painfully obvious...their time was over. I'm speaking from two decades of professional background in broadcast and computer graphics, just to put things into perspective.
Tounushi They have pouches for their young, like marsupials. They have a reptile-like appearance. They walk on two legs and have opposable thumbs, like many mammalian primates. They have complex language skills and sapience, lile humans. But technically they are none of this things. They are aliens from another planet... Or humans in costumes.
+Benny W Well, it's a different think, when you make a space opera like TOS with officers who seems to be right out of academy (although already surfing some years in space) and a cast of ambassadors, where the oldest ones even had seen the whole human story by eyeview and where you have realistic commanding hierarchie, so that you don't move from Academy directly onto the brigde of the flag ship ;)
B5's writing and acting will be a benchmark for SciFi-Shows for decades to come in my opinion. Modern shows with bigger budgets like STD, Picard or Disney Star Wars dont even come close to it except for the CGI and i wouldnt watch a show for the CGI alone.
Hands down THE best science fiction television show of all time, and better than most science fiction movies.

@@dramaticusflatudicus3839 yeah......i mean, I wish commodore amiga computer and video toaster get more recognition instead of being forgotten
@@Jebbidan absolutely agreed
Perfect.
Thank you!
I wish Walter had used his character voice to introduce this.
No reason to... No one would have cared because his character had not been introduced yet. He announces his role in the show at the end of this video.
But, if you meant Chekhov's voice, then yeah. ;-)
Лучший сериал, какой я когда-либо видел.
What is the name of this fonts of English Letters that They wrote In The End Credits from The Making of Babylon 5?
( 18:25 , 18:47 🤔)
Actors are the only people who matter. Everybody else is a replaceable cog. Actors are special, different, and better than the rest of us.
They can evoke thoughts, ideas and emotional responses that the masses cannot understand, duplicate, or even comprehend.
To even try to understand what goes on in the superior and creative mind of an actor is simply not possible.
So many great characters, Londo, G'Kar etc, the wonderful Peter Juraskik and Andreals Katsulas (probably spelt wrong)
Jurasik, Andreas, yes.
In 2021 the technology looks so old... I hope the new TV-Show will be just as great as the old one.
I'd love to see some babylon 5 audio dramas & books
The Video Toaster 3D program made this show possible
2021 and the only ones left are Bruce Boxleitner, Claudia Christian, Peter Jurasik, and Bill Mummy...
Unlike Star Trek the Next Generation that seemed as if it had so many plotholes they all converged into a black hole Babylon 5 had a beginning a middle and an end!
Are you sure....
There is a hole in your mind :)
now you sound like zathras :D
@@tomast9034 Zathras sound not like Zathras... Zathras sound like Zathras
@@PittPanthers90 Quite sure, Star Trek baldie was episodical and wanted to go on and on and on... B5 had a plan from the start basically.
Is N’grath on Andromeda pilot episode as well?
Sorry to lose so many of these actors so young. Especially Richard Biggs.
Looks like someone was asleep at the switch at the end.
Always loved B5 👏👏👏
I remember Zima had product placement in this series. He he.
I have been saying Walters last name all this time!!!!
Groundbreaking science fiction series.
This and The Expanse are the best sci-fi ever put on tv.
Walter Koening forever! And now I can pronounce his name! :D xxx
You have a wide range of taste within the Science Fiction Genre if you're here - that's better than limiting your scope to the big box office major franchises only, as some people do - Therefore I submit to you my 1984 feature Film which stills struggles to find it's audience. Here's a recent documentary about it - th-cam.com/video/k7EZB0FP-ig/w-d-xo.html
A totally underrated TV show which should really have a re-release with updated modern CGI as it's really starting to look extremely dated.
are there anywhere full interviews with actors??
How hot can a girl be to still be beautiful with Narn make up... You're my eternal crush, Natoth!
damn i knew i know baxter from somewhere...
and Walter presents, he was dead good as Bester and he loved it. You can see he relishes the part of being the macavillian PsyCop.
I love, love, love Babylon 5! I would love to see it be rebooted. Even though it is an old series now, the special effects were amazing!
The best show in sci-fi, hands down. Too bad the cgi starts to show its age, back when it came out, it was amazing !
Anyone know what music is in the background at 15:53?
I think it's just the opening theme music, possibly from season 2.
I really hope they remaster it
ali Servan Sadly, that is probably not going to happen.
Well contrary to what some might believe .The whole series was made on Amigas. Really, and still the Amiga far outshines pc=macs.
Not the whole series, just the pilot movie and the first season.
HERE ENDTH
THE LESSOn
Optimal Supreme
I don't care for your childish, condescending tone, but whatever you (incoherently) present here as facts is simply not true.
I'm speaking from two decades of professional background in broadcast and computer graphics, just to put things into perspective.
good thread
The best wig on B5 was Walter's, hand's down.
"A reptile"
Narn are marsupials...
Thanks from 2024 😍
News of a new show otw from CW?!?!?!
It coming back ......All B5 fans!
The show ended just over 15 years ago and half the cast is already dead.
Gutwrenching
A wonderful, great series. And yet it hasn't aged well visually. Some sets and some prosthetics have a supercheap looking!
Great TV series ...
IT was a dawn of a new age indeed.
Wasn't this the first tv series to use the new CGI ?
Long live Babylon 5!
Bester was one of the best characters of all time.
Heh Amiga 2000 & Newtek Lightwave NTSC 2.9 9:52
B5's writing and acting will be a benchmark for SciFi-Shows for decades to come in my opinion.
Modern shows with bigger budgets like STD, Picard or Disney Star Wars dont even come close to it except for the CGI and i wouldnt watch a show for the CGI alone.
Who let the Psi Cop host this?
