Yes, you’ve met “that dude”. It’s Mitch, who has the amazing range….goes as high as a soprano. Mitch and Kirstie change their looks a lot, but it’s always them. The only change has been Avi leaving to pursue a solo career. He was replaced with Matt, who is there to this day!
There is a version of this they did for a Make a Wish kid. It is recorded backstage on a mobile phone. If you take into account the terrible quality of the phone audio it sounds pretty much identical
In Hallelujah, he was wearing the HAT. In Bohemian Rhapsody, he was making guitar noises into the blowhorn! The ONLY change was when Avi left and Matt became the NEW Bass singer! 🎶🎶👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠❤❤
This was done with $400 in the kitchen of one of their apartments. This was also their first grammy. Mitch was about 20 and he has changed a lot, but always amazing.
They won their first Grammy with this - an a capella category was created partly for them. Now listen to their 90's Dance Medley. And Hallelujah has over twice as many views as this...
No, in "Hallelujah" Mitch was the guy in the wide-brimmed hat...with the high voice! He's a natural counter-tenor. He's in almost ALL the songs...almost. Oh, yeah - this won a Grammy.
Whether you call it a compilation or a mashup, it's a great combination of seven Daft Punk selections, in order: - Technologic - One More Time - Get Lucky - Digital Love - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger - Television Rules the Nation - 'Round the World A lot of people miss that last one, as it is sung in the background by Kirstie when Avi sings "Television", and again in the background in the final sequence. I could tell you really enjoyed this one. An original of theirs, "Love Again", is another one in which they have some pretty outlandish costuming and a great vibe similar to Daft Punk. Have fun going down a long road of their music. You'll undoubtedly come across a new favorite just about every time.
Technically, it's a medley (which is what they themselves call it), although they do mash 'em all up in the finale, so I guess it kind of qualifies as both. 😀
Yep you met him …this is Mitch, the guy with the super high voice. He wore the wide brim hat in Hallelujah. He has crazy range, like maybe six octaves. If you want to hear his lower range, listen to Amazing Grace, or his high range listen to The Prayer. Love your sincere reactions.
"Love them. Love them. Love them." Yes. What's not to love. There is still so much for you to explore with them. Many different genres. Their Christmas stuff is crazy good. Check that out in December and count me in. ☮
Yep, "that dude" is Mitch - he wore the big round hat in Hallelujah, and was the first lead singer (middle back of the couch) in Bohemian Rhapsody. He changes head and facial hair color, style, existence (whether he has it or not) in almost every video. He was also heavier when PTX first started. He seems to have stabilized for the last several years at a lighter weight, so in his last several videos he doesn't look as different. Kirstin is also a chameleon, changing hair color, style, or wigs from video to video as well. She was growing-out-blonde in BoRhap, blonde in Hallelujah, and a blue wig here (natural is dark brown/black). Since she's the only female in the group, it's somewhat easier to identify her - but reactors have seen her different looks and sworn that it was a different person, so it's not always easy to tell! Also, this video is 9 years old, so they've all grown and matured - remember that the Trio (Mitch, Kirstin, Scott) were only 19/20 when they burst on the music scene and first appeared on The Sing-Off TV show in 2011, so they've all changed over the years. I'd like to suggest something a little out of the ordinary for a PTX reaction: watch Pentatonix Tries To Sing 100 Pop Songs In 10 Minutes Challenge. It will give you an idea of their interactions with each other outside of a concert venue, and also introduce to their "new" bass singer, Matt Sallee - who has been with them for nearly 6 years now, and is only "new" because he represents the only change in personnel in the band since they started.
This was one of the first video's Pentatonix ever released on TH-cam, way back, before ads invaded the middle of videos, which is part of why the views are so high. Plenty of time to tally up those numbers, and this video has always been reasonably popular, too. Around the same time this was released, another artist, Lindsay Stirling also grabbed TH-cam audiences.
Mitch and Kirstie are the chameleons of Pentatonix; most of the time when people think they see someone new in Pentatonix it's really Mitch or Kirstin looking different. With these two, always go by their voices, not their looks. To be plain, Avi is the *only* person who has ever resigned from Pentatonix, and Matt is the *only* new member.
Scott, Kristen, and Mitch grew up in Arlington, Texas, met as kids (8? 10?) all tried to sing wherever they could, went to the same high school where they did choir and shows. Published TH-cams as The Trio. Scott decided to compete in The Singoff but they needed 5. They found Kevin online and Avi through a friend - and had ONE day to get acquainted and won the show. Came with money and a record contract but the label dropped them so they made some TH-cam videos and the world found them. Kevin and Avi were fans of Daft Punk so they tried to hire a studio, couldn't, and recorded in a closet and did the video at a kitchen table.Budget was $400 I think. Won them a Grammy. Kevin was premed at Yale, had played cello and sax (?) at Carnegie Hall but they talked him into joining. Imagine telling his folks. Fans (Pentaholics) have put together conventions and invited their folks to come talk and they are adorable!
I loved how you actually started lip singing Digital Love with Kirsten 😄 I’ve watched so many reactions to this medley and the vast majority don’t recognize it, even a lot of the people who know about Daft Punk.
I guarantee that after each song of theirs you listen to it will be your next favorite one...lol. Try... Sound of Silence, 90's dance medley, Imagine or Amazing Grace next. Thanks for sharing and stay safe.
Pentatonix performed on season 9 of The Masked Singer as The California Rolls. While not strictly acapella, their signature harmonies were unmistakable. Anyone who didn't guess them must have been living under a rock. If you only catch one performance, check out their version of "Creep" from the show.
This was the first song I heard from Pentatonix and I got to watch Mitch change his appearance so much. Kirstie also changed but to me she matured in her appearance more than just changing her appearance. I agree, they are AMAZING performers.
They won their first Grammy for this song, for "Best Arrangement, Instrumental Or A Cappella." When the Academy began considering nominations they knew that "Daft Punk Medley" had to be included, but there was no category for it, so they changed "Best Arrangement, Instrumental" to add a cappella to it, just so they could *nominate* Pentatonix. Their second Grammy, for "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," was in the same category. Their third Grammy was shared with Dolly Parton, for "Best Country Duo/Group Performance" for their collaboration with her on her song, "Jolene." It was the first time Dolly had won a Grammy for "Jolene"! And Pentatonix remains the only a cappella band to have ever won even one Grammy. The studio where they were supposed to record this had to cancel for some reason, so they recorded the audio in one of their closets (for the acoustics) and the video at a kitchen table. And yes, their editors are the best. Kevin's eyes were unable to tolerate the contact lenses, which is why he wore the visor. Judging by how red Avi's eyes were it appears that he was having some problems with the contacts as well.
Thank you for doing this one. So exciting to go with you on your PTX journey. I might recommend change it up a bit for the next one and do either Wizard of Ahhs for a Broadway vibe OR The Prayer for a VERY 'get ya in the feels " moment. I'm so thrilled to see your next one
Love that you didn’t recognize Mitch. He is one of the original three that grew up together in Texas. He changes his look a lot, as does Kirstie and he had a serious health scare years ago and his look changed after that, Too. Mitch sang Freddie Mercury’s part in Bohemian Rhapsody. I’m curious if you noticed the number of views in Hallelujah. Last I knew they had over 700K views. Hope you will consider reacting to some of their original songs which members helped write: Sing Be My Eyes Coffee in Bed Water Can’t Sleep Love Happy Now Thank You

As many have said, Mitch was in Hallelujah - remember the guy with the big round hat? That was him, a bit thinner and no beard, but still the beautiful high tenor voice. The other 4 have always been in the group since they formed in 2011.
Mitch and Kirstin particularly are chameleons. They change their hair style and color often, and Kirstin plays with wigs. Also, they have been doing this for 10-12 years, so They have aged over the years. They keep it interesting. The deep baritone singer is the only change over the years. Oh id recommend dance of the sugar plum fairy. Another grammy winner. Also "imagine", "cant hold us", and "carol of the bells" and "oh come all ye faithful,". Why wait for christmas? Oh and ptx is one of the rare acts thats a member of the youtube 5 BILLION views club.
Mitch... the one you didn't recognize.... in Hallelujah, he was wearing the big, wide-brimmed hat. Okay... To say that they make "every single sound themselves" is a stretch. They DO occasionally use instruments, and they definitely use sound engineering effects in post-production. That doesn't mean they aren't amazing, but they DO use a bit of 'trickery' to enhance their amazingness. (is amazingness a word??)
I fell in love with PtX when I first saw them on the acapella competition show The Sing Off. I was a music nerd in high school way back in the early '80s. I was sad to see Avi move on but they found a great substitute for their bass.
Hi, MMM! Mitch is the fellow you didn't recognize; his body weight has fluctuated over the years, from very thin to kinda' chunky to in-between. That, along with his hairstyle changes, makes it sometimes hard to tell that it's him. He also occasionally sings in a lower voice than his usual counter-tenor (in their official video of "The Sound of Silence", for example), making for even more confusion. I've just discovered your Pentatonix reactions and am enjoying them very much!
Mitch started off a bit hefty during and a bit after the Sing-Off show, then went on a diet, so by the time they did Hallelujah a year or two later, he'd lost a considerable amount of weight ( too much, in my estimation...I was getting worried about how thin he was) then gained a bit back over the years and is at a normal weight these days.
@@Gwennedd I was concerned, too, the first time I watched some of their Superfruit videos ("Hip-Hop Goes Broadway" springs to mind), and I hoped that his health was okay. (Although I was extremely thin myself in my twenties; one of my co-workers later confessed that she used to quietly watch me in fear that I was secretly throwing up. I assured her, truthfully, that I was just naturally scrawny and that there was no way that I'd ever deliberately yack up perfectly good food!) ;)
@@rebeccataylor8981 I was the same way. I was born a butterball but just as soon as I started walking the baby fat melted off and I was a skeleton my entire childhood and into adulthood. When I was five years old, The State actually got called because people in the area thought Mom was starving me. That's not it at all, I just had an INSANELY fast metabolism and only ate as much as my siblings (who had slightly high metabolisms but not like mine). I totally get it. You are not alone. :) I really get annoyed with some of the spam in my email about losing weight...like, 'LEAE ME ALONE, you are barking up the WRONG tree!' lol
@@jamescurfman3284 Oh, gosh, James! While I'm glad that the neighbors wanted to help, I hope that your mom was able to quickly prove that some of us are just natural string-beans! I'm 5'4" and from adolescence through my 40s I always weighed about 105 lbs...then through my 50s my weight began creeping up even though my lifestyle never really changed. I assumed it was "middle-age spread" until discovering that a slightly leaky heart valve was seeping fluid into me, and the fluid was just kind of sitting there -- it wasn't fat after all. I was up to 160 lbs when I began taking a prescribed medication that lets me pee it out as fast as it leaks into me, and I dropped 30 lbs of fluid so fast that my body was fooled into thinking that I was starving and decided to stop sending nutrients to unessential things like my hair. However, I'd much rather have thin hair and a healthy body than the other way around, so hooray for the pee pills and my very satisfactory wig! :D
They do all the sounds ( Kevin is a human percussionist. There are a couple where Kevin plays the cello ( Shallow is one example) but you clearly see the instrument. They have done this live, as all their songs. They indeed won a Grammy for this as has been commented. They also won a Grammy for a version of Jolene with Dolly Parton. And a Grammy for The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, a ballet in Nutcracker with no lyrics. They practice for hours their parts so they are in sync. ( I loved one where Scott was practicing alone his singing roles I. The 12 Days of Christmas. Maybe try Can't Hold Us, a Macklemore and Ryan Lewis cover. Also the Prayer, Amazing Grace, Havana and an original song called Sing.
Pentatonix have also done two collaborations with pop violinist Lindsey Stirling: Papaoutai (by Stromae), which had Scott learning French, and Radioactive (by Imagine Dragons). In both of those the percussionist Kevin gets to show off his cello skills as well.
Throughout their career Mitch and Kirsty will have a different looks and hairstyles. Throughout the years there has only been one change in lineup of this group. It's when Avi (pronounced Ah-vi) left (on good terms) and Matt replaced him.😊 They also sing this song live, there's a recording of it on the internet.
Love your reactions to PTX videos! I would like to recommend their 90's Dance Medley. It's a fantastic compilation of songs. Their Evolution of Ariana Grande is quite incredible too. Flawless transitions.
❤❤❤ I love this from them. I know you are never supposed to assume, but my 'umption that you were astounded. Mitch is a chameleon. New look each time we meet, same Mitch. The big change is when we part ways with Avi. Do not be alarmed if you Matt in his place. Exciting discoveries in your future. TTFN
There's only one member change in Pentatonix. Avi chose to leave and they brought in Matt as the new base. I think Sound of Silence is Matt's first video (but I may be wrong on that one).
So, now you have heard two of the three premier accapella groups ... Pentatonix and Voiceplay ..... now it's time for Home Free ... I suggest you start with their cover of Man of Constant Sorrow and the Butts Remix . These two will give you a good feel for what they can do.
You couldn't be serious about your comment at 1:49. Mitch. He was the MAIN person in Bohemian Rhapsody, and in Halleluiah you were really "Mitch Slapped" by him. I was completely shocked by that comment. I suppose he does look a bit different though. But it's clearly the same guy. I'll forgive you though. lol
No thats same dude. Mitch, the incomparable mitch grassi, i believe a founding member of the group. Been there since beginning and still is. Hes a counter tenor, in essence a tenor that can sing in soprano range naturally, not in falsetto. Drives me nuts when people think its falsetto. The other guys can sing falsetto, mitch sings high naturally! But he looks different in almost every video. Esp as hes gotten more comfortable on stage and in front of the camera, he can wear whstever he wants. I think hes still trying to find himself in his look. When in doubt , listen to the voice, that doesnt change and cant be mistaken. You should have been able to recognize his voice as he had lead in bohemian rhapsody and his voice is same here as was there. Dont get too hung up on the visuals, its voice thst matters in an acapella group.
You should check out a French band called Phoenix. I say a french band because I think there's others called phoenix. I like the song Lasso. I imagine you would too. It's a bit dated by now. But, still good.
You've met him. Mitch was a bit heavier in this video - I actually prefer this look, I thought he was way too thin in Hallelujah. Bohemian Rhapsody was somewhere in the middle.
You should listen to the Sound of Silence, by Pentatonix. But first, listen to the original version by Simon and Garfunkel, then the version by Disturbed.
The guy you didn't recognize wore a big hat in Hallelujah.

That's not it at all, I just had an INSANELY fast metabolism and only ate as much as my siblings (who had slightly high metabolisms but not like mine). I totally get it. You are not alone. :)
I really get annoyed with some of the spam in my email about losing weight...like, 'LEAE ME ALONE, you are barking up the WRONG tree!' lol
Yes!! Just their voices!! AMAZING!
Lol that dude is the hat guy from Hallelujah and the lead singer from Bohemian Rhapsody...that's Mitch
Throughout their career Mitch and Kirsty will have a different looks and hairstyles. Throughout the years there has only been one change in lineup of this group. It's when Avi (pronounced Ah-vi) left (on good terms) and Matt replaced him.😊
They also sing this song live, there's a recording of it on the internet.
Mary Did You Know should be your next pick.
Same crew as in Halleluia -- that dude was the guy in the hat.
Love your reactions to PTX videos! I would like to recommend their 90's Dance Medley. It's a fantastic compilation of songs. Their Evolution of Ariana Grande is quite incredible too. Flawless transitions.
What Is This Feeling? from the Wicked tribute. Gold. Pop Spring 2016.
Mitch was in both your previous reactions... wearing a big hat in Hallelujah :D
🙈😂
What's more amazing is this was recorded in a members kitchen
❤❤❤ I love this from them. I know you are never supposed to assume, but my 'umption that you were astounded. Mitch is a chameleon. New look each time we meet, same Mitch. The big change is when we part ways with Avi. Do not be alarmed if you Matt in his place. Exciting discoveries in your future. TTFN
live performance - th-cam.com/video/tw4YCsHXKgI/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=NickRiddell
Not only live, but Private Performance with no mics, just stood at the front and SING!
I love them too.
they won their first Grammy for thatl I subscribed
Thank you 😊
Hello.
I suggest you watch the introduction to PTX to learn their names and back history.
Or next watch their Micheal Jackson evolution
There's only one member change in Pentatonix. Avi chose to leave and they brought in Matt as the new base. I think Sound of Silence is Matt's first video (but I may be wrong on that one).
So, now you have heard two of the three premier accapella groups ... Pentatonix and Voiceplay ..... now it's time for Home Free ... I suggest you start with their cover of Man of Constant Sorrow and the Butts Remix . These two will give you a good feel for what they can do.
Mitch is a chameleon, he doesn't look the same in any two videos.
Best One Yet...? But they had two more Grammy awards after that, plus nominations. Not to mention multiple platinum albums.
am new to your channel and you have quickly become a favorite ! you are fun to "hang out" with . look forward to what's coming
Aww this is really sweet, thank you for commenting, made my day. Good to hangout with you too, well kinda 😉
If you liked this one I recommend checking out their original song 'Love Again' it's similar to this one with the EDM type feel!
When in doubt
, listen to the voice, that doesnt change and cant be mistaken.
They use music sometimes but 99% of their music is all them. And yes u have seen him. That's Mitch.
PTX 🔥❤️🙌
My god you look like Rebecca Ferguson double. 💕
Welcome to being Mitch-slapped.
It’s Mitch. 😅
Recommend their cover of Sound Of Silence.
You should watch “The wizard of ahhh’s”
yes, you've seen Mitch before, he's just kinda a Chameleon.
Take a look at; Voice Play's - Oogie boogie song.
Reaction a "More" the warning ♥️
How does anyone not know Mitch?
IF YOU ARE GOING DOWN THE PTX RABBIT HOLE YOU NEED TO KNOW THEIR NAMES.
they only spent $400.00 US Dollars to create this, and they filemd it in a closet.
$500.00 Budget, filmed in a closet.....result A Grammy.
You forgot Mitch shame on you
Hard with different consumes though and a new watcher? No?
