Can Doug (Mark Benton - Shakespeare and Hathaway) come up with a treatment that works?
This story is fiction, but the "Banana Walk" is a genuine treatment.

OMG that was me, 40 years ago, forcing myself to go into a store and having to run out, crying all the way home, calling myself stupid stupid stupid, just defective as a human being. No hope. BUT I kept trying. And now here I am. I had almost forgotten that me, I've changed so much. This short scene brought it all back. Actually made me cry, remembering. Also, I'm a piano player and have had anxiety all my life about performing. But again forcing myself to risk embarrassment and just play I can now play for just about anybody. Message: just keep trying. Never give up. It will get better, for sure. Thanks for this film.
It's actually delightful seeing Jamie-lee acting so unlike her other characters,
She's awesome!
There's defo something about how believable she makes her characters. Derry Girls is brilliant and a bit OTT, and she nails it.

2:44 “you don’t have to relive it” I can’t even begin to explain how shocking that was to hear.
I wasn’t expecting this to be about social anxiety, I just saw Jamie and thought “cool, I wonder what this is.”
Without being too long-winded, I’ve got social anxiety, I’ve been working on it for years, used to be so much like her actually. It’s almost painful but also therapeutic to watch this.
Never occurred to me that “I don’t have to relive it”. I don’t HAVE to relive things? Never occurred to me to see it that way. It’s such a compulsive response to sit there and think of it over and over til I know it back to front.
Thank you for your thoughtful comments Masha. I think part of reliving incidents is we also can judge ourselves too harshly..."I should have done X....why did do suck a silly thing"etc... we end up being our own worst enemy. Putting the past in the past is a really important part of recovery...

Social anxiety/phobia affects up to 2.00% of the population of the U.K. or, to put it another way, about 1.5 million people. centres on persistent and irrational fears of social situations where one may be exposed to judgment by others or by becoming the “centre of attention”. It may well be coupled with an intense fear of behaving in an embarrassing or humiliating way which can lead to avoidance of public contact/situations. This can of course have a hugely detrimental
effect on your life. Which is why it is fabulous to see a video like this, reaching out to those in need and letting them know there is hope and there is a way to break the chains of anxiety. So well done and keep up the great work.

The banana also helps take focus away from the person and onto the banana which can help. Great video.

Jamie-Lee O'Donnell and Mark Benton. Absolutely staggering actors. This was wonderful. One of those movies that is harrowing... then uplifting. Both main actors, extremely well cast.

Nice work. The acting was really good - I love those two actors. The story simply told - that's a compliment as it takes good decision making to do that. Lovely.

It was class to see Jamie play the antithesis of Michelle from DG. I also watched Shakespeare & Hathaway on public television and it was good to see these two working together.
Great performance about a deeply personal issue that I have struggled with.
I have never had a therapist this lovely and genuinely concerned and wanting to help all the therapists I get act like robots !
I guess therapist are human too. They become desensitised

This was great! The acting is great, the writing is great and the cinematography is great! It’s a shame this doesn’t have as many views at it deserves.
I have gone through this therapy (not the banana but something similar) and it does work wonders. Nice to see a film being made about the subject, well done.
