I used almost all of Gary's tips and it looks great. That slightly bigger orange cursor arrow with black edges looks great Also, I think putting the dock on the left (or right) is really nice because there is much more height for windows.
There is an option to hide the dock, except when you float your mouse over it. That gives you more screen space all the time, except when you need to use the dock.
@@grahamf695 You're right, of course. Thanks for pointing that out. I hadn't thought of it in relation to this problem.
Something I'd like to add, if You have an Apple Silicon MacBook and are annoyed by the camera notch. Combining high-contrast and dark modes can help lessen how striking it is. It won't completely hide it, but it will help the notch "blend into the woodwork" so to speak
i love the increase contrast option, i just am too used to dark mode now after fighting it for years to really take advantage of the full retro look of it all, but even using display contrast is giving it a little lift, thanks for the tips
Thanks Gary. As usual a very informative tutorial. Please continue with your brilliant work. Thanks.😊
Always enjoy your uploads Gary! Thanks for all the knowledge 🧠
Love all your videos you are so to the point! On changing the wall paper though where you just drug an image onto the "Studio Display" window on the Systems Wallpaper, what folder on my computer is that image actually stored? Thanks so much.
What are your thoughts on stage manager? I like it when I’m docked and using my 2 27” monitors but when I have the laptop screen only I feel it takes too much space. It would be great to have automation to switch it on when external displays are connected and then switch it off when built-in screen is only used. Could be a good subject for tutorial 😊
I've done several videos on Stage Manager. You can set a keyboard shortcut for it to easily turn it on or off. How you use it is up to you. It is a personal preference.
Thanks very much, Gary, for this very informative video! Some great personalisation ideas.
Interesting info thanks
Thanks for these tips.
Wow, I changed the color of the pointer. Thank you very much. 👍
Bravo. Very interesting ideas. Many thanks!
This is a cool tutorial! So many aesthetics settings are hidden away in Accessibility, I tend to forget they're there. One question: Is there any sort of "Personality" app - or setting - to put all the 'looks' choices inside of, so one could then change entire looks with a single click or two?
Great question.
Thanks Gary!
Excellent. I like my new customized desktop. Will fiddle with other settings later.
Good video. I wonder who would want to do that to a beautiful OS like MacOS.
The colors of the cursor can be modified without any third party apps since the release of macOS monterey. Historically the default cursor color on macOS has been black with a white outline while on Windows the colors were reversed. Having the default cursor color be changed to white with a black outline would actually be better for visibility reasons and to help people who migrate from windows. This should be done beginning with the next release of macOS after Sonoma.
A very useful and informative video tutorial today! Thank you, Gary!👏🏻❤️
Are you some kind of bot? In every video, and I mean every single of them, you post copy/pasted the same comment!!!
How do I get to keep more than 1 screen open in Stage Manager? E.G. I want TH-cam open and terminal at the same time in Ventura? Thank you.
I found the answer. Hold the Shift key when clicking on a minimized window. This will then group the windows together, and the will behave like a single unit in Stage manager.
How do you chick a app on Dock and get it to show thumbnails of the windows. I think you can do this with force click. Any way to make this the default when you left click?
You can't. You get a list, but not thumbnails.
WOW! I've been soooooo boring. Not anymore! Thanx!
Very informative video! Is there a way to change the color of the folders with adding Candybar of another 3rd party app?
Sure, you could do that. I don't use any of those though. You can also do it without any third-party apps. See th-cam.com/video/k3Wp5k2FB8c/w-d-xo.html
@@macmost Thanks so much!!!
Does the 'add widgets' to the desktop work in OS Ventura?
No, that is a new feature of macOS Sonoma.
keep going
Fun.
Is there any app for adding some shimmer effects on the cursor? I've seen it somewhere, but maybe it was in windows.
I'm not sure what you mean by shimmer effects, but if you meant someway of highlighting where the pointer is because you can't see it, then you can move the mouse quickly from side to side, and the pointer will temporarily enlarge.
@@kevin_mitchell thanks but that's not what I meant. It's like having a trail left behind the movements of the cursor for a very short period of time
@@anaz0143 Oh wow, that sounds interesting. In essence a different visual cue but more artistic. Nice.
Hey, are you also experiencing bugs with Stage manager & mail or Preview? These 2 apps just don't go into card automatically on my M1 Pro on Sonoma since Ventura
Sorry, no, I haven't noticed anything. Not sure what you mean by "don't go into card."
@@macmost The mail & Preview windows don't go into the small cards on the side with Stage manager on
@@AzVfL Are you using those in Full Screen mode maybe?
@@macmost not of course not. I know how stage manager works, but it refuses to work for these 2 apps
Widgets are good, but I need to enjoy my wallpaper. I downloaded an app called "hidden me" that hides all icons on the desktop with one click, but the widget still stuck there. Any way to just make me see the wallpaper clearly in one click? thanks
Open settings -> Desktop & Dock -> scroll down to desktop & stage manager -> then you can set "show items" to your preference, same with widgets few settings below, no need for an app, enjoy!
hi sir I wish you will reply . I have MacBook Pro m2 , and the problem I can't disable the lid startup , what should I do to solve this problem . my MacBook when I shut it down , I need to open again it will start automatically.
So you want to be able to open the lid and have it NOT start up? Why? I don't think you can disable that. Why open it if you don't want it to start up. And for that matter, why shut it down? There's no need to shut down a MacBook unless you are storing it for a long time. Otherwise, let it sleep.
@@macmost thanks sir ...👍🏾i appreciate it
@@user-vi8vk1fz5p There's a terminal command to do that. Search "how to disable boot on lid open terminal" and you'll see it. Enjoy
I am the queen of macOS aesthetics, and even I didn't know about the pointer color changes! I have the cursor at the largest size setting - it's the thing I use the most on the computer don't wanna be hunting for it for even a second - and now I have it a nice orange with a grey border! So nice! Thanks, Gary!
If you move your mouse around rapidly for a couple of seconds, the cursor becomes larger temporarily so that you can find it.
👍🏻👍🏻
Strange, I don’t have widgets… only through App Store(
Are you maybe using an older version of macOS?
FYI - changing the pointer color triggers the memory leak issue and you will constantly get an annoying popup.
It shouldn't. I think that was an issue many years ago when it was first introduced, but no longer. Are you still seeing that problem with macOS Sonoma?
Very cool. One thing to watch out for with color pairs is to not use complementary colors. So, RED & CYAN, GREEN & MAGENTA, and BLUE & YELLOW should no be used as a font color and background pair. Too hard on the brain.
What about for the Cursor color? Green as the fill color and the magenta for the outline color? I just tried it and it looks cool actually
It's a matter of taste. Since the outline color is a line probably okay. But magenta text on a green background would "shimmer." Black text on a yellow background for example really stands out. But white text on a light grey background would look terrible and would be unreadable.@@drvoodoo3073
Here is a link that shows some examples. I don't necessarily agree with the Good or Poor grade. www.thoughtco.com/thmb/nHkW7MmaanzcFH3r6xdYHMdK7z0=/1500x0/filters:no_upscale():max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/Color-Contrast-Chart-59091b973df78c9283e31928-8f0e8f537b1a48d2b8961afa04bc6928.jpg
Dear lord why is Sonoma's background image so hideous? 🤣
Because different people have different taste in aesthetics. Nobody's is any less valid than the other. Not when you can easily change it.
Why? why would anyone buy a premium product to use in public that has branding on the outside then want it to look different
Why not? If it isn't for you, then fine. I don't do much of this either. But some people like to customize and have fun with it.
Same reason you change settings on your phone, it’s exactly the same thing. You bought your phone and changed the aesthetic guaranteed. This guy produces some of the best tutorials around yet you’re here basically just telling people you suck, ignorance must be bliss!
@@macmostKeep up the good work my friend! Your videos have helped immensely, so many awesome *settings that did what I didn’t even know existed.
In your title, there’s no such thing as ‘different than’. The correct grammar is ‘different from’.
