From 2007, I also heartily recommend a few other games that are just as good as games in the bottom half of this list:
- Test Drive Unlimited, Sega Rally Revo, Virtua Tennis 3, Prince of Persia Rival Swords, Innocent Life, and the port of Riviera The Promised Land
I just replayed Final Fantasy Tactics last month. Frustrating but it's still one of my favorite PSP game.

Three tactical RPGs at the top. Looks like someone has a preference. 😄
Preference maybe -- but I would also say that FF Tactics WoL, Disgaea, and Jeanne d'Arc are 'objectively' the three best PSP games of 2007. GameRankings & Metacritic aggregates both agree. I really liked PSP Ratchet and Logan's Shadow ... but I would have a hard time saying they're better than those three tactical JPRGs.
@@sonicmania9993 I only played two out of those 3 and found them really good, but I have no idea how one would would even go about comparing Syphon Filter and Disgaea? Aside from both being video games, they have very little in common.
I wrote dozens of game reviews as a part-time job in the 90s/early 00s, and had a lot of conversations about this with magazine editors, so I can give some insight there. One thing about the difficult task of 'objectively' making a top list or assigning a number score to a game is that you have to divorce yourself slightly from your own bias (which would prioritize your own 'favorites'). You assess how well each game accompilshes what it sets out to do, how satisfied fans of the game's genre will be, how creative and fun it is, how innovative vs. derivative it is, etc.
I can't think of any PSP games of 2007 that were as successful in what they were trying to do as those three tactical RPGs. JRPGs are one of my own favorite genres ... but I usually don't favor tactical JRPGs as much as the more standard narrative turn-based and action ones. However, these three games stand out -- they're all great games. I also love 3D platformers, and as a platformer the PSP Ratchet game is really fun ... but not quite up to the standards of the first couple of PS2 Ratchet games. So for me the tactical RPGs are all 9+/10 games -- the only three on PSP that year I'd score that high -- while Ratchet and Logan's Shadow are more like 8 or 8.5/10 games. Quite a few other 8/10 PSP games that year I would say -- and my favorites among them are probably Test Drive Unlimited & Virtua Tennis 3 (which JYA doesn't include, because he almost never includes the driving and sports genres in his lists), and also Gurumin (a 'cutesy' JRPG that sits down at #14 on JYA's list).
