I was lucky enough to see Lita play on a bill with Yngwie Malmsteen (it was in the early 90's). She and her band were awesome. As a man I think it is great that she has paved the way for so many women guitar players. I also think it was very cool of her to stop playing music at the time that she did to focus on her family. She was still very popular when she did that I believe. Anyway, Lita if you read this, when this zombie apocalypse is over, please come to Las Vegas NV and play some shows out here!!!

Lita is amazing. She didn't let anyone tell her she couldn't do it. She did it. She had her roots in The Runaways but after that she found her true self, her true style. Love her music, love her attitude. Great interview.
I sought out this interview after cracking out my Cassette copy of 1988's "Lita" - what a kick ass album and all the memories came flooding back. I saw Lita perform live in a club in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1984 - well before her BIGTIME solo success - and she was incredible. A true rock n' roller. I disagree with the comments below from some that say she is only an average guitar player. Listen to the solos on "Lita" - they are excellent. Killer stuff. No one else plays guitar on that record. There are no "guest soloists." She plays every guitar lick on that record. Is she Joe Satriani? No - but few are. I would call her a well-above average lead guitar player. I totally agree with you, and thanks for the comment - you are so right, she did everything herself, and people forget that on top of the guitar playing she is also singing and fronting the entire band - not an easy task....

@@Scottocaster6668 For the most part I've enjoyed my interviews, once in a while people can be a little strange or stand offish, but that's rare and I try not to assume anything because they could be having a bad day, or are tired or don't know what to expect, and a lot of times they tell me they've had interviewers blindside them or try to go for an angle just to get a story or make them look bad, or sometimes the questions just get boring for them, so I can understand that. I try to always come prepared, do my research, and ask things that they haven't heard before and make it fun so they can show their real personality. The only person I ever interviewed that I can say was kind of jerk, was Bryant Gumbel at the Sports Emmy Awards, but I won't go into why :-)

The Runaways were never considered heavy metal. I absolutely love Lita, but Girlschool came out around 2 years after The Runaways. Girlschool from the start was considered the female version of Motorhead, whereas The Runaways were more like The Ramones. So technically speaking, Kelly Johnson of Girlschool would be, in my opinion, the first female metal guitarist. Keep in mind, The Runaways was still around (but now a 4 piece band) when Girlschool put out their first album "Demolition".
