I have a story, that might interest you!? In 1988, San Antonio was having the 20th Anniversary of HemisFair '68. I volunteered to work with a Spot Light Crew. A guy came in from Louisiana, with WWII Spot Lights. We operated those lights during the fireworks show, and aimed the beams above the Tower of Americas.

When I was growing up I remember those same lead seals were used on the electric and gas meters. I'm willing to put money on it that the reason the standoffs were on that lamp was so they could easily put colored lenses on them. I also noticed in the last video that there is a protractor cast into mount for aiming purposes. I don't know why those drill bits would be that expensive but I do know, and have a few of, that exact same geometry style in solid carbide for drilling out hardened bolts. Have a great 4th!

Really enjoyed this episode, Scout, as it was a real mix of topics that fit the theme of the show. That Giant Sealer was interesting as we had one when I was a boy, coming from my grandfather's shop when we cleaned it out back in the mid-60's. Don't know what ever became of it, unfortunately, as I can picture it having been used by railroad workers back in the first half of the twentieth century. Any how, thanks for another great episode!

Now I can really appreciate projects like your doing, even esthetically, like the way the color of the grass changes and stuff. It is strange how much your ideas and options change throughout life.. That vintage railroad 🚞 🛤
sealer tool is pretty cool to see, also fantastic information about the tool. I🤔 wonder what your sealer tool writing says??
Great vintage N.O.S. Of Stanley drill point set , and the packaging they came in back in 1983 also looks awesome 👍. Those vintage oil cans are awesome to see and collect. I have a couple of those like 3n1 ,Liquid Wrench 🔧 and Marvel mystery oil cans that my dad had and I just keep them on the shelf in the shop. I think the graphics or printing on them are really cool. I think the ones you have look awesome also 👍👍. That was a neat way to use the standoffs and wing nuts 🔩 to hold the enclosure shut but also to protect the lens from damage, fantastic job!👍👍I wonder what that mad scientist Scout Crafter is up to now? Tune in next week ... same time, same channel 😂😂😂👍❤️those goggles!👍 That Empire State building 🏙🛕spot light 💡looks awesome and when you lit it up I bet the neighbors thought the sun ☀️was out 😂. Wow that Sylvania 1000 watt light 💡 fixture is Super bright. What a fantastic historical light fixture to have in your collection ,really cool 👍. The park in your neighborhood has a awesome view of New York City 🌃 at night. Those new led lights do look nice on the Empire State Building at night ,also again great shot of the New York City skyline 🌃. Another great shot of Old Glory 🇺🇸 flying in the breeze with that beautiful blue sky and also love seeing that Red white and blue fire hydrant 👍. Several years ago I did the same thing to parts of our yard, it is mostly self sustaining and if if an undesirable plant shows up it gets removed. I watch these folks spending thousands having their lawns treated to remove dandelions and have to wonder why. Geez, what a light, and LED’s such as they are just can’t match the appeal of incandescent power.
Happy 4th of July, and thanks again!

Hi John, great job on that light. I also think that the stand-offs were for colored filters that were probably also made of glass, due to the heat of the lamps. You know someone out there has a few of those stashed in their basement or attic. The trick is finding them... Also, I have a big hand-full of the lead seal blanks that will probably fit your seal. They are a round lead pill with a twisted copper wire imbedded in them along with a hole that lets you loop the end of the cable back through the seal part. These were used to re-seal Army ammunition boxes when they were repacked. I can send them to you if you want them...

The neighbors, " the crazy old guys out playing with lights again". As for your Giant Sealer try some lead strips. They sell them on line for not much or if someone sells them locally. Used mostly for stained glass work. You must do a little of that on the side. For some reason I have never tried, probably because of early arthritis in the hands. Does your parade have a fly over tomorrow? The little one here does because we aren't far from an Air Guard Base and have an armory. The latter is something you don't see in small towns anymore.

Scout, those drill bits and the push drill bits - an observation/question: A lot of CNC machine tools are designed to operate 'in the dark' with no operator required. They simply power-off when they finish the programmed work or when they run out of material or when tooling fails. Typically these tools are mills or lathes of some configuration. Given the number of push drills and hand drills (millions?) that now must use twist drills (slow and inferior to fluted bits in these applications) why wouldn't some enterprising shop with appropriate CNC equipment begin filing the void (ya can't find, or if ya find them, afford these bits) left by the legacy manufacturers (Stanley, Great Neck, Millers Falls, etc.) walking away from this market??? I mean really! Just load 10,000 pieces of assorted drill rod into a programmed CNC mill at closing time on Friday night and voila! 10,000 fluted bits on Monday morning. These are simple designs, requiring relatively routine programming, needing simple tooling to produce items that are scare as hen's teeth for a large market that has been overlooked for decades. Is it a lack of awareness? A lack of demand (I doubt it)? A patent issue? The big woodworking stores/catalogs and a shelf hook in the big box operations could probably sell a load of these bits/bit assortments. What the heck?

    • @ScoutCrafter

Hello. The sealer was very interesting. I was wondering how you cleaned the can, did you just use degreaser or did you also use a polish? As always, nice video.

Could you fold up a piece of aluminum foil to make a test button for that sealer tool?

I tried that but it wasn’t transferring, I even tried cardboard with foil over it, it was better but still not legible. 🤔👍

Wingnut - haha - some unkind people use that term to refer to His Royal Highness King Charles III of England - due to his sticky-out ears!

From what I can gather I am a seller on ebay someone puts an item on for a ridiculous price to try to get rich and the rest of the sellers that have one follow suit it's just an opinion but I believe it's right because they are not worth that kind of money absolutely not eagle
