Somehow, it wasn't until this scene of Hal calling yellow "the color of cowardice" that I made the connection to why Yellow was Fear in the emotional spectrum.
@@pedromiret9195 in the past, the negative connotations yellow had been associated with jealousy and betrayal for the most part. One idea why that came to be is that Judas (the one who betrayed Jesus), was often depicted wearing yellow clothing. Starting with the ancient Greeks up until probably the mid 1850s, the colour yellow was associated with the production of yellow bile (Humorism was the belief that there are four vital fluids for life: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile. An unbalance of these fluids was once believed to be the causes of diseases) which they thought that caused people to be bitter, short tempered, and daring. The Greeks thought a greenish complexion was caused by an over production of bile in the stomach, and caused sickness, fear, and jealousy. Shakespeare's Othello helped to cement the idea of "green with envy" "Beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on" "Yellow-belly" is thought to have multiple origins. One of which is a "yellow bellied" frog that would run away from you if you tried to catch it. At some point, yellow became more strongly associated with cowardice. Eventually, being "chicken" became more popular. IIRC, the first documented case of the term "chickening out" was due to some sports event in the 1920 which one team never showed up. Why chickens?
