Hi Neil and Ant well done for braving this spooky house. Was interesting to see inside as Dave comes from Coventry nearby but has never been here. Some wonderful wood carving on the grand stairs. The canon ball damage was fascinating. We love the wooden four poster bed. We love a house with a long gallery as we imagine the gentry promenading up and down. Dicks Garret was facinating spooky that you felt the drop in temperature 👻 Another one added to our list to visit to visit. Thank you so much for showing us around . Have a great weekend. Hi Dave and Dawn! It really is a very atmospheric place... they have two sightings at least each month... usually a lady in period costume in the long gallery who people mistake for a staff member dressed up and another regular one is poor Dick up in the attic! The house is actually very beautiful in parts and we really enjoyed our visit....we had the place completely to ourselves! The ceilings are amongst some of the best we've seen... My first visit was that of a ten year old It ignited my passion in history. Especially the Stuarts To my parents it was just a visit but to this day I felt a connection with the Hall I knew I had been there before. It’s very beautiful when done by candle light and you feel it’s 1642

I was born a few roads from here and grew up playing in the grounds and around the hall. It's changed over the years. It looks very sparce inside now. The top room 'Dick's Garret' used to be the armoury. It was full of suits of armour and weapons. I've been many times by candlelight too, which is great. It used to be free to get in. I've been on the roof and in the cellars. I love the house and would happily live there. It feels like home to me. After 65 years of visits, it should do.

we played inside aston hall when were young and new the secret passages in the 1950s. there was a glass veranda at the side . keeper who patrolled did not like children so we played him up in winter it was very eerie then. we just made him jump because the wind would whistle through the doors and corridors . many happy days.

Where was the Long gallery located in relation to the rest of the house? Also, I am wondering where the materials to build this house or sourced, locally or ordered in. Were most of the things the elements of the house made by local carpenters or were some of the elements ordered in complete such as mantel pieces or doors or windows. Here in Virginia some things such as Portland stone key stones were ordered from England already carved in the 1700’s.
The house is made from brick, during good spring, summer, and autumn weather, they molded bricks and fired them. Like bakers, brickmakers mixed their main ingredient with water until it had a dough-like consistency. They rolled the clay in sand and packed it in a wooden mold. Some molds were rectangular, like modern bricks. This would have been done locally to the building site possibly at a purpose built brickwork just for the halls construction. Timber for the roof trusses and floors would also be locally sourced. Craftsmen such as carpenters and stone masons would have been brought in from far and wide to complete the house interior. They would live and work on site. The house took 18 years to build so they would have used many different tradesman over that time. Special commissions for the more special items such as stained glass or marble fireplaces may have come from much further afield. Well yes an excellent place. I've noticed in your videos no one is there looking through the homes as you are. They are open to the public and yet no one except yourselves is there. Is there a charge to view these places ?. Or are they free. I thought I saw a couple of ghosts, but no it was your shadows on the wall. Ha !. Very interesting, I will definitely be watching more . Most charge though some are free, Pickfords House for example... We usually get to the houses for when they open as they're normally quiet then and it's much better for filming unobstructed! The top floor at Aston did feel very creepy we certainly felt something up there! Thanks for joining our little community 😀
