I have had an MX88 for five years and really enjoy it. I play it every week at church for contemporary worship music and newer arrangements of classic hymns. The Hammond organ sounds are very realistic. Don’t forget that increasing the cutoff frequency will brighten many patches, such as organ 021 and most piano sounds. I just need to learn how to save it! I’m a big Genesis fan too. The CP70 chorus patch is identical to the CP70 on Genesis’ “Evidence of Autumn.” I enjoyed your video very much.
Late to the game; sorry. I, too, love my MX61. Just a reminder to all: the "Assign 1" and "Assign 2" knobs are worth playing with. For instance, on STR062 Phase Strings, Assign 1 controls the rate of the phase effect, while Assign 2 controls the magnitude of the phase effect. Check it out! And speaking of Styx, either LD003 or LD004 are great for the "Fooling Yourself" intro, depending on how fat or thin you want the tonality. In fact, "Assign 1" on LD003 really fattens things up.

This is an excellent upload! Most other Keyboard channels are reviewing and playing the latest and greatest, so it is refreshing to come across your channel. Great playing by the way. PS: Of course, the MX88 is great too.
Excellent! My Favorite keyboard! The Grand piano is what impressed me to buy this board! I debated with my great musical son that it is the BEST grand piano sound out there!!! He thinks some plug-ins are better but I say yeah maybe on the high-price end. But for this under $1,000 group, it's the best!
I find the AP 006 much better if I'm layering strings or a pad. The AP 001 tends to feel more muddy at the lower registers to me. If I'm going straight piano, I do go with the 001 usually.
I've only just started playing keys on stage (bass parts mostly) but it's interesting to watch your left hand technique. It never occurs to me to just get good at playing octaves before trying anything more complicated.
Yeah, I really like doing that. My left hand is either playing a bass line, playing octaves, or playing octaves and then jumping up to play chords. In my own music, I always have a bass guitar or bass synth, so I don't really want the left hand piano or Rhodes part to get in the way.
I bought a MX49 because there's a disconnect for me with a soft synth and keyboard controller. I want the limitations & character of a dedicated instrument.
When I'm doing gigs, I might use a little eq from the mixing board, but nothing drastic. No need to - it sounds great out of the box. You can also program reverbs, delays, etc into your patches if you need to.
As far as I know it's the same sound engine with fewer keys. Here's the question: What are you playing the keyboard through? In the video, it's recorded directly into the computer. It sounds different depending on what speakers you play through. The better the speakers, the better it sounds.
Thanks. I am just rediscovering my MX49 and really enjoyed your video and views on the patches. I love the reference to classic Genesis by the way.
I LOVE my Yamaha MX 88!!! To me it has the best electric grand piano sound out there!

Great demonstration. Loved it !! I have the smaller MX49 - so i'll try out some of these sounds.
Very good Musician and a very good Band Player.
Really enjoyed your playing as well as your sounds all the best from old England :}

Thanks! Glad you like it. I'm more of a songwriter/performer than a gear guy, but I do love gear.

Great review. am considering the MX88 and CK88. Cannot find a side by side review of them together. Both seem equally as good sounding.
We have the same thinking😮😅
@@EdMiran-o9gi ended up buying the CK88 and a CK61!
if one were to buy this board do the sounds that you play are they standard,or are you running it through toys and filters ? great presentation

I just bought an mx61. And sounds nothing like this video. Is the 88 key version better. Sounding wise ? Im returning the 61

Great job but how about wooly bully watch it y😮p
연주하는 모습이 나오면 더 좋겠습니다.
Good point - I'll work on my camera angles!
