Lots of people write or sing songs about motherhood or loving a child and usually hit one or two notes - Imogen hits the love, exhaustion, rueful frustration, the understanding of the natural process (children take and parents give), the quick-and-you-miss-it acknowledgment that sometimes parents don't get to see their children grown when they're in a position to finally thank them... Look how much a good parent holds inside them. It makes them miss and remember how much I respect my mother.

I put her Pandora on when my students are doing peer review, I listen to her when I'm falling asleep, I listen to her in the car, sing to her in the shower - she's got music for everything and whenever she comes out with something new I get in an "imoggy mood" where all I want to do is listen to her entire discography (from "headlock" and "little bird" to, NOW, this new song). Perfect. She's PERFECT.

Some people hate it and hate parenthood .. I have loved every second of it all. I am so grateful that not even words could translate the sheer humble gratitude I have for the opportunity to have been a mother a homemaker. I had hoped for lots more children and an earthly husband to love and cherish to share in happiness and to honor but even if that doesnt happen , no words could describe the joy and happiness I feel as a loving mother and homemaker.
