I had a 1973 and then a 1977 Gold Wing and several other bikes after that but my favorite by far was my 1973 Honda Cb750. I wish I had it today. The single overhead cam was the best design ever. Easy to maintain and no shims needed. In the words of Curly Joe of the Three Stooges it was, "Poyfect."

If I can find one of these for my 50th next year, I will be having one, was going to buy a more modern 2019 triumph street cup in yellow and grey, but this has just trumped it, knowing me I will get both 😂 absolutely stunning, has to be this colour ‘74 model though, stunning, truly stunning

It's funny how when I was a teenager and riding my Kawasaki triple in 1974 how I hated the Honda's. I appreciated the engine technology but thought the bikes were ugly. Fast forward to 1979 and I bought a new black Honda CB750F Super Sport and thought it was the coolest thing on the road. Over the years I've come to appreciate the early 69-75 Honda 4 cylinder bikes. Nice 74 CB750 and it found the right man to take care of it.

Russ did an excellent job describing his bike, best presentation to date. Those who are yet to visit the cul de sac, take note. In the summer of 1972, when I was 19, I rode my candy apple red/gold 1970 Honda 750 from Palo Alto, California to New York as the first leg of a one year walk about in Europe and the UK. Wonderful memories of cross country trip on a true super bike. Only break down was the chain which failed outside Cortez, Colorado.

Had one !! 1971 in the year 1981!!! A blue green color!!! Had a batwing fairing and bags to match!! Tank had a gold stripes!!! Ran good!!! Enjoyed the machine!!! My wife got mad when i rode up on it at her job and she quit the job!! She didn't have a ride home so i took her for a short ride!! She loved it and went back to the hospital to get her job back and no success!!! Had 16 or 17 bikes since then!!!

I really, really loved this video! At the age of 19, I bought a new 1975 CB750 K5 in red. Put close to 100,000 miles on it; chains, sprockets, clutch, steering head bearings and swing arm bushings (used aftermarket bronze) were replaced at various times in the course of 10 years. And many oil and filter changes, of course! Accessories added: Dyna Guards, Lockhart oil cooler (covered with aluminum foil in the winter), gas cap lock, Vetter Windjammer 3 with lowers, Wixom bags and top box, Rack Factory rack, and Eclipse tank bag. Toured the East coast every spring, and went cross country in '79. Commuted to college and work on it. I loved that bike!!!

In the 60s I lived in Omaha Nebraska and my neighbor was the Peterson’s, owner of the largest Honda dealership in the Midwest. I was in middle school and my father was an officer flying B52 at Ouffutt Air Force base. The Peterson kids were bringing home every new bike Honda was releasing at that time. And I could ride my bike to the dealership and watch the mechanics uncrate and setup the bikes. That bike brings back memories and is one of my favorite bikes. I remember the distinctive sound of that bike.

Its on a Honda F2 (750 Sport) that I’ve done my longest motorcycle trip of my life. It was one year after Elvis’ death. I left Montreal and travel throughout the states as far as L.A.. So, watching that video brings me good memories. Honda 750s are extraordinary reliable motorcycle with F1 sounds. You ride, you camp and you ride again. Over and over, day after day. You don’t have to worry about mechanical issues, because there’s none.
    Thanks guys, that’s a cool video! 👍
How nice it is to live in that cul de sac. So many nice things happen over there! 😉

A nice history lesson and an enjoyable trip down memory lane. Russ really knows his stuff. I always like the sound of the four pipes, and to this day remember hearing the sound of the odd one out on the highway in the night, near where we lived. Back at that time, there was little to no traffic, and in the evening, I could drive my Norton along that highway with no hands for ever. Today, you wouldn't make it 100 yards without being in an accident, as the highway is now just a large subdivision road, with stoplights every quarter mile or so.

Halcyon days. My first "big" big bike was its little brother a 550f mark 2. Wish I never got rid. Good to see the 750 in unmolested condition and not too over restored. You see some restoration that are highly polished and nothing like the original finish. This one is a testament to originality And its owner. After all, these were budget super sports bikes for the masses. Good job👍

I had the exact 100% stock machine. I got from my father in law back in 1984 or so. I gave him a Ruger Blackhawk 357 mag. revolver. Pre 1972 with the three screw frame and a hundred dollar bill. A year later I rode from Pittsburgh to Houston, Texas in 36 hours. My motorcycle was stolen from me in that town about a year later. One of the very best of many motorcycles I have owned over the past 50 years. A beautiful machine. Some were Timex quality this Honda was like a Rolex in comparison.

In 1980 I traded it in for a Honda 900 Custom. You guys remember that bike with the hi/lo transmission? I wish I was smart enough back then to have kept both bikes to enjoy today. Classic machines.

It's so great that this man brings up Bob Hansen. His name is rarely mentioned in the CB 750 Four story. Hansen was highly respected and liked by not only Honda executives but the boss himself, Soichiro Honda.
The story I read some years back was that Bob Hansen was at Honda H.Q., in Japan, when they asked him what Honda's new bike should be. Honda had already began work on the CB 750 design and prototypes but Hansen didn't know about it at all. Not only did Hansen declare it should be a 750, but also a four cylinder. Apparently the Honda folks nearly fell out of their chairs...and the rest is history.

I remember the impact this bike made when it came out. It is hard to re-create the sensation this made .
I can say that it was wider than the motorcycle world. The first time I saw this was an article in a magazine we had in French class at school , "Paris Match". Full colour ,centre spread , I seem to remember the bike was a purple ,metalflake/candy finish but maybe that`s 50 years of false memory.
Somebody stole the magazine (ok it was me .. Mr Goodwin can`t still be looking for me... he`d be over a hundred anyway)
It was like the scene in "Wizard of Oz" when it bursts into colour from a black and white world ,every one is familiar with this now but as a kid when you didn`t know ... wow!

This was the first bike I ever rode. My 17 yr old friend, Jim let me take his for a ride. I was 13. Identical bike. Two miles down the gravel road I dropped it doing a u-turn to head back. I was a skinny 90lb kid. There was no way I could lift it. My friend came running around the corner about 20 minutes later, probably relieved to see I’d just laid it down and not blown off into the toolies.

This was the the bike I wanted as a 17 yr.old teenager. They were around 1800.00 out the door in 1976. I went to a small mom & pop shop and saw my Yamaha 1976 XS650C for 1300.00! Well $500.00 bucks difference for a young man cutting lawns was allot of dough so I bought the Yamaha. Great bike. My friends who at the time had Triumphs, BSA’s,& Sportsters teased me about buying a Japanese motorcycle. But the writing was on the wall with the reliability of Japanese products. My other bike that I wanted then was the Kawasaki KZ750 twin. That bike never really made the popularity of the Honda.

I remember when they came out, seemed like a huge machine..... and as for other makers of four cylinder machines, well there were quite a lot in Europe back in the twenties, firms like Nimbus etc..... I used to see one made by Wilkinson Sword that had a woven basket on the front in Rex Judd's bicycle and motorcycle shop in Edgware, North West London back in the 1970's......

I had a 1971 CB750 in High School. It was just magic. About 60 HP when Triumphs and BSA's were making 40 HP. The disk break was SOOO much better than even the double leading shoe drum brakes. The sound (to me) was more like a Ferrari than a motorcycle. Had it till I got married and had to get a car.

Thank you Mike for sharing another beautiful Motorcycle. I do come across quite a few of these 750’s and 550’s in the UK and Northern Ireland. Honda changed Motorcycling for ever after they built these bikes. You all take care now and I look forward to the next visit to the Cul de sac

This was my first bike after a time away from riding. I loved it until I got passed by a 76 Gold Wing riding in Canada one day. In 1977 I bought my 1st wing and am still riding my 2014 ABS Wing. I keep looking for another Metalflake 74 Orange 750 just like yours.

It's a great bike and I am continually stopped by people with my similar condition K6 who reminisce about owning one back in the day as they were so prevalent. This is a bike that puts many smiles on many peoples faces. As to the polishing yes the original anodizing just doesn't hold up to keeping the bike looking spectacular if you are going to ride it. It takes some elbow grease to maintain but the polished finish can be brought back up if the bike is being ridden; what these bikes were meant to do and do exceptionally well. Great all around bike that you can still readily get parts for. Very low maintenance being air cooled and just plain overbuilt. Insurance is also quite reasonable. I too installed the tapered bearing kit which is a nice upgrade. I also big bored it to an 850 during engine rebuild which is now a little more generous on the torque. I have a restored 1975 CB550 K1 as well which is a little more nimble but doesn't hold up as well to the 750 on longer journeys on the highway I find. So many made where did they all go? A great bike that holds up to being a pleasure to ride to this day that can be ridden every day. If you are going to own a vintage bike that's fun, well loved and practical; this is the one to own.

Great bike! I used to have one like it but mine was painted blue metal flake. It was a lot of fun. Like the owner said, it was a bit top heavy but that went away when you got going and it pulled like a freight train. Wish I still had it today!

The first thing that caught my attention wasn't the color. It was the 4 into 4 exhaust. There aren't many that haven't rusted out. I have a 1970 CB750 and had to replace the factory exhaust in the mid 90's and couldn't find a 4 into 4. I went with a Kerker 4 into 1 because it was the most popular aftermarket brand when the bike was new. If I can't go original I can at least go period correct.

Another interesting visitor, thanks for telling us about your Honda Russ.
I myself was privileged to borrow a 250 Sports Dream back in 1963 for a weekend.
If this 750 is 'anything' like the 250 with more power it must be a treat to ride.
Thank you so much for a fantastic episode Mike.

I owned a bunch of 750's, KO to the Super sport models in the late 70's. I wish I still had one, rode all over the west with these bikes and yes, I threw away
the four pipe exhaust for a 4 into 1 Kerker like all of my friends back then. Oh well.

Hi Mike, what a great description of the Marque from a very knowledgeable man, thank you I really enjoyed it. Both my older brothers each had an orange 750 four back in the day when I had a 750 commando, great times, I believe Honda ruled the roost for a few years with this model until the 900 Kawasaki was released at least.
    Thanks, Stoyan.

Nice bike, great story! I can hear It’s cam chain - it’s not loose, just particular with those original exhaust pipes.
