    The 3rd shot drop is the most difficult shot. That is one of the reasons that a number of people recommend a 3rd shot drive. It the same hopefully gives you a return that allows for an easier 5th shot shot drop. :)

    Great videos, thanks Jordan and Dave. Dave said to stay back if you hit a bad TSD. But I have been burned many a time if I stay back. The opponent either drops it into the NVZ or a short sharp angle shot. And your stuck at the baseline. What would you suggest then?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally most people won't hit drop shots or short angle volleys near the net if they get deep 3rd shots, instead they will keep you deep. If they keep doing that, then maybe you can consider moving up to no mans land and working your way in. Although in this strategy, you have to really learn how to control and reset balls into the NVZ. Check out our drill video on no mans land.

    • @traey1775
      @traey1775 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jordan, in your video about driving a short return on the 3rd shot, you are driving it from no-man's land. If the ball gets blocked, the ball is bound to come back to you where you are standing in no-man's land where you need to do the 5th shot drop from.

    Just came across your video. One comment: You say don't fall back, which you did as an example when Jordan hit is ball deep near the baseline. HOWEVER, he normally hit his feed to you much shorter, so you were able to demonstrate moving forward. How do you play a ball that is very close to the baseline without falling back, or being back in the first place (which makes you venerable to short returns)? Thanks.

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great point! Sometimes you will have to hit these shots when falling back and it's possible to hit good ones but try to get forward momentum into it as much as you possibly can.

    So where do you aim for placement of the ball with your third shot drop?....aside from hitting it over the net

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question, there are lots of good options, but it really depends on the situation. The middle is a good option because you won't hit the ball wide, and it's the lowest part of the net.

  • @gabrielfrench8382
    @gabrielfrench8382 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So, I play with some opponents who really like to rip a shot after the bounce of a Third Shot Drop. In other words, when I get to the kitchen line with a good Third Shot Drop, they find some way to blast it at my chest (using a roll or other technique). Typically when a shot comes to me like that, I try to slow down the ball and wait for them to lose the dinking game (which, when it comes to it, they always lose), but if they get a chance to hit it with force or just over the net, they're going to rip that shot. If I can't repeatedly slow it down in a point without making an error, what should I do...?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are ripping or rolling your 3rd shot drops with ease, then your drops are most likely sitting too high after the bounce. I would suggest you work on your slice and/or topspin drops, as it would make it much harder for your opponent to attack those shots. Hitting a good third and softening up that shot on the 5th shot is a great option if you can control it and make it up to the net.

    I am trying to figure out what the paddle position should be in a third shot drop. Your paddle head seams to point down instead of above the wrist. Does it depend on how high the ball is? Or how hard the ball comes back at you ?

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Margaret, I have seen both paddle positions done successfully. The key is to have an open paddle face to make sure you get the arc to lift the ball up and over the net.

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a tough one, if you are not that mobile, you have to pick your poisons. Generally, most players will hit the ball deep and keep you back on bad third shots. If you know they like to drop and are capable of it, you should come in working your way in and split step on those "average" third shots. Doing this, you have to practice on your mid-court and no mans land reset shots. This is harder to do, although it will eliminate your opponents dropping you every time.

    • @badmiyagi
      @badmiyagi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct me if I'm wrong Jordan, but the place where a majority of the balls tend to land during a rally is what's referred to as 'no man's land'. So we don't want to be fielding balls at our ankles w/half volleys. In other words it's about halfway between the net and the baseline, 3 feet or so behind the NV zone/kitchen line.

    • @gg80108
      @gg80108 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Say good shot, you are playing percentage ball and don't care about every shot.

    • @badmiyagi

      Some people (partners) assume we did something wrong when clearly the opponent hit a good shot down the middle.
      I just tell the partner to suck it up. They simply hit a good effective shot and tell them to say 'good shot' and get it off their chest, lol!

    • @skidz8426
      @skidz8426 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe what @zane zhang is asking it the serve is short weather to stay back. The answer Is to come to the net if your serving and your opponent hits a short second shot you should then be at the net. If your returning the serve and the serve is short you should hit a deep drive or even a lob kind of shot as they have to let it bounce. Really anytime your opponent makes it easy to come to the net come to the net

      If you can get the ball down in the kitchen, it will very hard for your opponent to constantly hit the ball hard and also keep the ball in. Watch a match in which Dave plays, and you can see how he makes it up to the kitchen line 99% of the time.

    Why is the third shot drop the most impotant shot in the game? You can never, ever lose a point if you miss it. Whereass the second shot, return of serve, will always cost you a point if you miss it. You can only miss 10 second shots but an unlimited number of third shots...

    • @primetimepickleball
      @primetimepickleball  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's the most pivotal shot in the game. It determines how the rest of the point will go. If the serving team makes a good 3rd shot drop, can advance to the NVZ line and neutralizes the point then the whole dynamic of the point changes. The return is important and so is the serve but nothing makes a bigger impact on the outcome of the rest of the point like the 3rd shot drop. It basically determines if the serving team can stay in the point or not.

    I have been playing Pickleball for 1.5 years and I play the power shot game and dink as a last resort...I am 59 and maybe i have not had the right competition yet but I win 90% of my games because first most people can’t handle my power game and second I let the defence make the mistakes with their dink shots which most people are only at 50-60 % with them...I will change my game play when my win loss record reverts to more losses than wins with the power shot game .... but for now power all the way😎
