- I took a break for finals, but I’m back. I decided to play a different Etude. I love this one. It’s beautiful and lyrical and very bassoonistic.
Also, I’m sight reading this. I hate ledger lines.
As a bit of setting, this is my first time playing a woodwind instrument. I’ve had my bassoon for about a year, and now I’ve decided to really push myself to try a bit harder.

Also, my family decided watch a movie as soon as I started recording. 🙄🙄
Lovely! #justiceforSalieri
My bassoon has a lot of weird quirks. It's a cheap Chinese-made instrument, but I got it for cheap because I love bassoon. Does anybody know any alternative fingerings for the high Eb above the stave? Mine is kind of weird. Also, for some reason my high F# won't play with the normal fingering and I have to play the ring instead of the hole. Also, why is my high D and C# so out of tune. I have to do the alternative fingering for the C# on the D too, which I don't think is normal.
Anyhow, if you play bassoon, I'd love to know what you think about my first day sight-reading this etude.
A lot of the beeps may be because you're doing so much pressure on your reed, you have to try keeping it more relaxed
Moreover the fingerings on those cheap instruments don't work nothing as good as on. A good instrument, si maybe that's why you have so much problems with them
@@hectorrbassoon Like with my embouchure? I've been kind of confused when it comes to where the reeds sits too. If I'm really low, I think it kind of helps to play at the tip of the reed, but if it's high, I tend to play a bit further in. I feel like this is kind of wrong, though. Also, I did figure out that you're not supposed to fork the high Eb... 😭😭 I'd been forking it the entire time. I'm so dumb. If I use the right fingering, it works a lot better. I'm still struggling with middle section with quick transitions between half holes and stuff. But I do often feel my lips being very tired after I play a while, so I'll focus on trying correct my embouchure so that it doesn't become a bad habit that I have to fix later.
Your reed is either too closed or you’re pinching it too hard. Try opening up your embouchure and putting more support
For high e flat fingering use left hand pointer and middle and right hand pointer middle and ring finger and nothing else
