I've been playing as an Armorer since the subclass came out. I can fully confirm that it is a whole lot of fun to play. At level 12, I infuse my boots to become boots of flying, my armor to become +2 plate, and my gauntlet to become +2 weapons, and a cloak to become a cloak of protection. Add in my magical shield (not from an infusion) and haste, and my armor class can hit 27 when needed!
Add in the fact that the thunder gauntlets give disadvantage to attacks against anyone else and the whole party becomes absurdly hard to kill for anyone rolling attacks.

    My build Ideas for Armorer:
10 Armorer + 10 Pact of the Blade Hexblade = Fallen Avenger.
You get the best infusions in the game (The LV10 Ones, since some of the LV14 are good, but the list is not that impressive as a whole) you get 5 Invocations, you get a good amount of spell slots (Not amazing, but good), you can store most of your favourite spells for later use at a half the price, you can get Revivify, Shield, Tiny Servant, Eldritch Smite, Armor of Hexes, Blur, Mirror Image, Haste, Heat Metal, Enlarge/Reduce and so much more...
3 Armorer + 17 War Mage Wizard = Mobile Fortress
You lose some of the best infusions (I kinda love the Repulsor Shield), Spell Mastery and Signature Spells, but you keep your 9th level spell slots and can learn 9th level spells, you are tanky as hell, can dish out some hefty damage, can have most of the defensive spells and can attract the attention of the enemy to you with little effort... Slap on this bad boy a couple of feats like Eldritch or Metamagic Adept and you're prime to annihilate most encounters with a metric buttload of AC.
Ever since I saw this in UA, I loved this subclass (My Artificer was using the UA build but mid campaign Tasha's incorporated it, so I switched to it), although I miss that the infiltrator isn't like the Zero Suit from Metroid... My Artificer is now in an almost permanent state of bulkiness.

I have been playing with the Armorer since it was released as UA. My very first Artificer was an Armorer, and I've been in love with the class and the archetype ever since

Awesome video, Rhys! I would love to see a small series of videos like this one, where you review the rest of Tasha's subclasses. Love your work!

Hey Rhys, if I ever get to play an artificer, I'd DEFINITELY take the Armorer subclass so that I can get tanked up and be there on the front lines!!

I'm currently playing a warforged Armorer multi-class. I have level 1 dip for forge domain cleric which give me a free +1 armor/weapon and I also get shield of faith with that for another +2, in addition to the warforged integrated protection +1. Even starting with just scale mail and a shield I'm wading into combat with 21ac. Now go a few levels of artificer to get plate mail and the gaurdian stuff as well as level 6 infusions and I dip two levels of wizard to get the shield spell, find familiar, and the warcaster feet and war magic school. Now I can use cantrips like booming blade on enemies that run from me, with plate armor, shield infusions and my other stuff I can boost my base ac to 26, and I can also now boost it to 28 or 31 on a reaction depending on which spell/feature I use. And anything I hit in melee has to either attack me, or take disadvantage.

The 15th level ability is way better for infiltrator armorers than guardian armorers who often need to save their reaction for things like flash of genius, absorb elements, or the shield spell (easily obtained through feats/multiclass/background). Even if the enemy ends their turn within 30 feet, it eats your reaction, they get to make a STR save, and you still have to hit them with the attack roll on top of everything else. Not worth it. If you're a guardian armorer who wants to multiclass, 14th level is a very good stopping point.

I dont know how, or why, but a bloodhunter dipping into artificer would do amazing with the subclasses but especially armorer.
If youre a bh with low dex, like I was planning on making my new character, and you dont wanna multiclass into barb just for Unarmoured defense then going into artificer could be used so well. The rp of being and intelligent monster hunter who crafts gadgets and traps to help him hunt, and then dons magical armour to help sneak or even to face the creature mono e mono. I love it
Not too sure how well the classes would mesh but hey they both use int so atleast they have that

I've been doing a video series on Artificers lately at my own channel, and have done builds for Battle Smith, Alchemist, and Guardian Armorer (Infiltrator will be my next video). The Guardian Armor is VERY difficult to optimize, presenting a ton of anti-synergies... it was a very tough nut to crack. Infiltrator is far easier to optimize, and I concur that it's probably better than Guardian, overall. Not only better utility abilities, but it has considerably higher DPR (on par with Fighter with FS:A/XBE/SS). Battle Smith is the best Artificer, and Alchemist probably the worst (though my build for it was fantastic, it's also super hard to optimize). Armorer I'd put in 3rd, with Artillerist taking 2nd.

If you mean a magic piece of armor, yes.
You just need to be wearing it, have smith's tools in hand and spend an action. Keep in mind you won't be able to add any infusions to it though since it's magic, and even after you reach Armor Modifications you'll only be able to infuse the side pieces of it (boots, helmet, and the armor's special weapon).

    • @kraken9773
      @kraken9773 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@CPTcast Upon further reading you're correct. You're able to turn magical armor into power armor, but you can't use magical armor in infusions.
Most low-tier magical armor in my opinion isn't worth making into power armor over infusions.

I miss your hair! Bring it back! Also fantastic content as always! I've had a Battle Smith played in one of my games, but haven't seen any of the other subclasses yet. So curious to see how it would play in reality.
