60 Minutes, the most successful American television broadcast in history, began its 52nd season in September. Offering hard-hitting investigative reports, interviews, feature segments and profiles of people in the news, the broadcast began in 1968 is still a hit in 2020. 60 Minutes makes Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 nearly every week and was the #1 weekly television broadcast three times last season.
The program still averages more than 10 million viewers, more than double the audience of its nearest network news magazine competitor. The average audience for a 60 Minutes broadcast is 150% higher than those of the network morning news programs; the audience dwarfs the number of viewers drawn by the most popular cable news programs.
About a million more people listen to the 60 Minutes radio simulcast in several major cities and on its companion podcast. Tens of thousands each week experience 60 Minutes online. The broadcast’s segments can be watched at 60Minutes.com and on the CBS All Access app. Its webcast, 60MinutesOvertime.com, offers content originally produced for the web, including behind-the-scenes video about the production of 60 Minutes stories and timely archival segments.
60 Minutes has won every major broadcast award. Its 25 Peabody and 150 Emmy awards are the most won by any single news program. It has also won 20 duPont-Columbia University journalism awards. Other distinguished journalism honors won multiple times include the George Polk, RTDNA Edward R. Murrow, Investigative Reporters and Editors, RFK Journalism, Sigma Delta Chi and Gerald Loeb awards.
60 Minutes premiered on CBS September 24, 1968. Bill Owens is the program’s executive producer. The correspondents and contributors of 60 Minutes are Sharyn Alfonsi, Anderson Cooper, John Dickerson, Norah O’Donnell, Scott Pelley, Lesley Stahl, Bill Whitaker and L. Jon Wertheim.
I sure do miss old Andy Rooney. He was one of a kind. So many good things are gone....

Man, I miss all of those 1st 60 minutes guys who have passed away. Ed Bradley, Morley Safer, Mike Wallace, Andy Rooney, and Bob Simon. Those guys were the cream of the crop. I miss Andy Rooney and his colleagues. Most likely, most of his contemporaries have left this planet. What a program! It is an institution. It has survived the test of time. There are new contributors just as good as their predecessors. Along with Andy Rooney, deeply miss Mike Wallace, Harry Reasnor, Ed Bradley, it was a wonderful team. No Sunday was ever complete without 60 minutes with Andy Rooney providing icing on the cake. Those were the times!

You are a half-right. Current “contributors” are a 2 on a 10 point scale. Current contributors are biased, tilted and tainted celebrity talking heads concerned more with advocating their political agenda than they are reporting facts and the whole story. Sixty Minutes is the ultimate Socialist, political correctness showcase in media today. Wallace, Reasoner, and Bradley would have no part of what CBS “shovels” today because those gentlemen had journalistic integrity and told the whole, fact based story all of the time. Real journalism is dead on CBS.

How about the programs on FOX and OAN etc.? Those programs take "truth" and fairness to a different level. My dad and I used to love watching him. We used to do our best impressions😂My dad passed 6 years ago, and it’s hard to watch him without reminiscing and appreciating a grumpy old mans humor....

I had that Santa in 96, and I still visit one of those houses annually, it's still decorated every year!
He was always so insightful and wise, 60 Minutes was never the same without him. He was a journalist brave enough to fly in bombers in WW2 to cover the story, I have nothing but respect for this man.

Wow! Love finding Andy Rooney here on TH-cam! And I just googled him and saw that he passed away in 2011 at the age of 92, after doing his last appearance on 60 Minutes! One month before! I think he was a great man! Hope I see him up in the Spirit World or Heaven!!!! 😀😇🙏❤️

I miss his segments, so I watch them on you tube. I watched him on 60 minutes during the 1970's and 1980's. He was a hoot. I read several of his books, too. The show is not the same without him. I was sad when he died.

I watched 60 Minutes during the late 1970s as a teenager and all during the 1980s and until Rooney retired, because of Andy Rooney. He is still funny. I read his books, too. The contents of his books are like his comments on this show, but not from it.
I forgot all about Andy Rooney. Fond memories from my childhood and young adult years.

Ok Andy; we get it. Don't over decorate. But still "to each his/her own". Some years have been better than others. Like a couple of years ago I was a homeless squatter, in the intercity, and couldn't afford a Christmas tree and the decorations. So to maintain an unbroken tradition, for 66 years, I cut a small limb from a cedar tree and decorated with one string of lights and whatever else I could find. At more profitable times we went all out and, yes, over decorated (OD'). All that really matters to me, my wife and children is the sprit of the season.
Thanks Andy; you may have saved me some money during the Yuletide season in2021. My wife thinks you are a pratical person.

I was 3 when this came out. I probably watched it, too. Every Sunday evening, right before the new Simpsons episode, I was bored to death by 60 minutes. 1 TV in the house and my pops wouldn't change the channel. I didn't mind Andy, though. He had some panache to him. R.I.P Andy.
Rooney was one of the last people that almost everybody could relate to/would listen to..

For my indoor tree, I also don't like blinking lights and have SOME multi-colored always on lights. Not so many lights that you can't see the green of the tree and I like my tree not too fat and squat and not too skinny and tall. Aside from that decorative balls and a star on top with a burgundy and gold trimmed velvet skirt, that's all. Maybe I'll buy some light translucent red and gold trimmed ribbon for it next year. I don't like white lights on my tree, seems non-traditional and way too commercial and aside from that I just like the multi-colored lights.

Back when news reporting actually had integrity and they cared not about being first but being correct. There was a time back in the day if you released news that’s wasn’t accurate you were blacklisted.

As a kid, I always wondered why anyone thought Rooney's vague little diatribes belonged on 60 minutes. It's like if your unhappy but passive aggressive neighbor bought air time!
That was the point of the segment! It was a lighthearted way to end a news show that was very serious.

I disagree with Andy Rooney when he said in this "A Few Minutes With Andy Rooney" segment that Christmas lights should not blink. Blinking colored lights on a Christmas tree are more appealing than the ones that don't blink.
