Not here being mean, I just don't know her work, caught the show that night, no audience laughter, etc., what's, I guess the joke, when that lonnggg pause about "I love you" was!? Like a movie thing, inside joke, or what. It was just awkard silence feeling to me, and I'm a curious person on stuff I watch! Help clue us in that didn't get it? 🤣🤣

@@stephanieshuler7189okay, good question. The joke had two pieces of comedy.
When she said, a lot of people might of taken it the wrong way, a part of the audience probably thought she was letting him off the hook and interpreting "I love you" in socially acceptable context. Nope. The second part of the comedy segues from the first perfectly
Secondly, she takes that moment where he accepts it, maybe to shrug off the joke or to validate that he was being cordial, maybe to agree to neutralize the joke, but she just absorbs every second of it after he replied. Her face was funny during the silence. She's simmering and scintillating and basking in the moment that's so special to her and casual to him, that it's awkward for that reason. I feel moments of undeniably plausible chemistry. It's just like the victory lap.

is it me or did late night interviews get a million times better without the studio audience?

Pedro henriqui de abrue I absolutely feel as though late night talk shows has been elevated by the lack of pandering to studio audiences, the ability to allow conversations to play out/ meander and for the host to deep dive and be present. i hope that networks walk away from this with a little more faith in audiences to handle or even want a bit more depth and less flash. I'm also grateful that we have such insiteful and caring host during a time that we really need them , covid/ super important election season. This would not be as useful in the days of Leno/letterman (who i love but is just a different kind of entertainer) Grateful that we have Seth , Stephen, the daily show etc.

no I totally agree. they got distinctly better and more ... homey and ... real. I loved the show before, but now I'm ... heavily invested. this could be the end of the world. who knows. they are doing what they can to help us make it through the day. the media industry right now is holding this country up when we're on the verge of collapse.

I also like that monologues are as much for the crew as anything. Specifically in non political moments when it's clearly just them making their friends/ coworkers laugh but we get to see it.

I can imagine it would be difficult for Trump supporters to cast a vote they don't think will mean anything. The severity of his symptoms and whether or not his Twitter account goes silent could make a big difference in his base giving him their vote. If he's quiet long enough, the spell he has over them might break.
