I believe, nedumkota is built by Raja Kesavadas( Diwan of Marthanda Varma's successor Karthika Thirunal Rama Varma Maharaja ) and its Rama Varma(Dharmaraja)who faced Tippu Sultan & defeated him.

The Travancore kingdom, mainly comprised of Nairs, followed matrilinealism

It is nothing about respect or disrespect. There is no disrespect in matriliner system. Even in Travancore kindgom, matrilinear system was followed. The king before Marthanda Varma was his uncle not father, and his Sucessor was also not his son, but his nephew. This is how the matrilinear system of succession worked in the Nair families, who were main components of Travancore kingdom and army.
