Always a shame to see a broken one especially the older more complex ones with paper gears and cams with a whole animated scene right there in real life. Truly magical craftsmanship for no reason other than joy and wonderment.

Basically the old proverb "Don't judge a book by it's cover" implies that you should never assume or estimate someone's or something's worth just by interpreting the external looks. Ik this case, if you look at the book with its title, it very well depicts a clear picture of how it will turn out to be which you can call a spoiler too. But that negative and positive thing about judging is different and wasn't implied in this case.

IKKK i always am kinda saddened by the fact it's mainly used in just childrens books but to be fair it allows the medium to be far more whimsy and truly imaginative with what it shows. I remember my cousin having an alice on wonderland pop-up book which i absolutely loved to read and open up again and again more than anything else in her room, even her barbies that i was jelous of didn't hold a candle to that magic of the pop-up
