My brother used to have a herd of cattle including four bulls. He had explained to me the pecking order thing but I had never seen it in action. One day I was at the farm and all four bulls were lounging in a corral when my brother was opening a gate to let them out to pasture. The boss bull was a MASSIVE Hereford bull with huge down-curved horns; he was at the peak of his strength and power. When my brother opened the gate all four bulls knew what that meant and began moving toward the gate. One of the younger bulls was nearest the gate and began walking through. Suddenly, he remembered his place in the pecking order, slammed on the brakes, backed up, and stood deferentially with his head lowered to allow the big Hereford bull to pass, and then he followed at a respectful distance.

They yapping and strolling along BEHIND YOU in and out barns ,in 1 gate out another and just happy and healthy. I am amazed !! I am not a farmer or even vet just a nurse, but I can see the trust they have for you. There is a peaking order all the way from the cows down to the calves. There are usually three groups, cows, bulls and the calves. Just as a sidenote, cows are technically over bulls.
As for them respecting a human, it is the social interaction that they respect, and they learn the person or persons they respect also help them. It takes quite a while to be respected by a herd, but if you get the respect of the head cow, they will follow you anywhere.

They do have excellent slaughter facilities though that are very humane. Well, most. Raising animals how they were meant to live is better for ALL involved. Plus done right it can help with the environment.

But now I hear Pete says how mentally relaxing this exercise is. My Grandfather suffered extreme financial stress during the depression and so this exercise probably really helped him. Yet in the community he was thought of as lazy for just sitting and watching his herd of cattle graze. But my Great Grand father was thought to be lazy as he drove the team of horses around the community delivering Christian tracts.and encouraging everyone to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour and be saved. Amazing as God viewed both men with the highest respect for their lazy appearances to worldly man.

I am still amazed how docile and friendly these two bulls are. Having grown up around dairy/beef farms where there were occasional bulls of Holstein and some French breeds, the warning was always out to be ever so cautious around them. Your two guys act much more different.

You are right about rain fall Pete. My meadow has never been this lush for the 30 years that I have owned it. My wife and I traveled through rural areas in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Co. in western NYS. yesterday. I have never seen the fields so brilliant green and thick as they are this fall. It has been a great year for grazing cattle and making hay. Thank you for the interesting video and coverage of the bull fight.

I love the way you allow Nature to run it's course. Fighting bulls need this fight! Poor ol Ordan, I feel for him. It's no different than two men doing the same thing to establish their place in society. Don't think so?, just watch men when they meet, they immediately size each other up looking for strengths and weaknesses. Even their handshake, the dominant one will have his hand on top.

Pete, I’ve been looking forward to the bull battle video since I started following your channel this year - I love watching the herd dynamics and it’s an especially interesting because you give us a blow by blow description, quite literally. You allow Orden to sire offspring just like Titus so I don’t feel too sorry for him - in nature he might not get that opportunity.
