AIWA had their own, it measured less than 2x30 watts, maybe even half and they advertised it like 2x100. And it still went up to 105db with their own speakers. Lived it firsthand. 105db and it had bass still thumping...Amazing for what it was.

If you measure for two channels, 20hz-20khz and for less than 1% distortion it may even be 15-30 watts per channel tops. Which is still pretty good. IF the speakers are somewhat sensitive, it will get loud. It will need around 30ish watt to hit 100-103 db. If you ...ok not many people care about harmonic distortion, just volume so yeah it will get louder and louder and it has an active preamp as well so that helps too. It can outmatch smaller "hi-fi" systems in a party. Aiwa's systems did too.

This particular model was sold as RX90 in Europe and (for the dolby system100 RX in N.American markets, as the GR8 in Asia (not sure if this was ever sold in Japan however). There is no way on Earth they would be selling these with incorrect specs in their manuals and service manuals and ads as 100 watt RMS per channel, 20-25 watts RMS for the surrounds. There is not a single case of consumer fraud against these brands, nor any recorded sues over that period from consumers for these hifi systems. THD was correctly stated, as was distortion. if you are simply referring to bass distortion alone, at high volumes, SONY had the ingenious system of VACS (Variable attenuation control system) chips (you can find clips of it working on you tube with proper scientific, spectrographic analysis). Pioneer had edgeless woofers with 30-35 mm lateral excursion that was developed by the TAD scientists. The competition was fierce and so were the products that came out during that era. If you were testing and analyzing the sound data yourself there is without shadow of a doubt using a faulty amplifier, or malfunctioning system, speakers etc. If you want a sample size, try it the scientific way and get a few unopened box RX90 or those that were kept in pristine condition. the STKS can deteriorate from decades of use. I recently got an unopened MHC 3600 Made in Japan (1993), the sound was divine, you cant get that these days.

Я тоже свою разобрал. Отремонтировал подкассетники. Заменил тактовые кнопки, пасики. Поменял смазку. Вымыл всё от пвли. Ничего страшного в ремонте не оказалось. Энкодер тоже почистил и он за работал как надо. Шестерни там еще лопаются на моторе выбора режимов.

I have been postponing it but now that I've seen the process I might do it soon 😊 Only difference is I know I'll have to replace some tape section parts bc I know they're broken.

My uncle bought one of this but that was another model. It was really good. Sony's all sound systems was unbeatable at that time.

Mine has similar issue. Change the lens and still shows error
Very often small potentiometer on pcb is faulty. Replace or clean with contact spray.
