As a very average pvp player, it’s definitely boring playing against pure melee tryhards who master tech moves, the roll poke etc., with that said, this guy was definitely trash summoning blues, rune arc (10 characters and I’ve never even activated one) high poise, chugging flasks. Personally I find pure melee boring af and definitely easier to play, but it’s a fantasy game so everything I use is mix stat for fun and theme
"All you do is run" You know, you can run as well, and high Endurance stat gains advantage in stamina management. Also, there are long-range options in the game for pressure. Tons of ways to deal with running opponents in an open field.

I don't know the whole context behind the beginning of this video, so this might be unrelated, but it's still something I'm curious about. I've never understood the invaders wanting a "fair and honest fight" when they're invading. It's such a weird angle. If you're being summoned in for a duel, than healing is absolutely scummy, but when you show up in their world on an invasion, I think the host winning by any means necessary is plenty fair and understandable. This of course excludes exploits or glitches. If you are looking for a fair fight, why not go to the arena? Isn't the point of invading in Elden Ring to conquer unfavorable situations?
Also, the host is such a clown for calling out "running away" as a lame tactic. Standing your ground and fighting when you're at disadvantage is often the wrong choice.

Almost all the Souls games favor playing reactive but it turns fights into staring matches when both players do it, so it's considered tryhard by some. Tournaments always take place in limited space for this exact reason, it prevents people from running forever.
You do have a small point in terms of the difference between an agreed upon duel, and a spontaneous invasion. However, and this is a big point to make, invasions have specific scenarios that they were, and always have been, "balanced" around. The main basic scenario is that a more experienced player will go back and make themselves a nuisance to less experienced groups trying to make their way to the fog wall and clear an area. The group (host side) usually has numbers on their side, and the host has a full complement of flasks. The invader has hit and run tactics to take advantage of, and ideally mobs to kite around and seek opportunities to divide and conquer. This is, more or less, the original intent of the developers, and this intended balance shatters the moment players do things like: clear a world of all mobs, squat in place waiting for a lone player to bully around, or wait with rune active to have "fair and square" duels with massive advantages. This is why the devs, in the past couple of games (Elden Ring, Dark Souls 3) have introduced a coliseum mode for fair matchups. Not saying players should always cry foul when running into unfair matchups, because that's also in the spirit of Souls gaming. Just mentioning that it's weak and pathetic of the "bonfire" and "grace" duelists that only want to stack as many advantages as possible, and then turn around to send hatemail, when all of those advantages get surmounted by skill anyways. I almost NEVER see these pathetic Rune duelists invade on their own, they only want to play when they have all the cards on their side, and that about sums up my disdain for such players.
My point is that none of that really applies to invasions, though. If you're going to duel, use the arena, or summon in the red/put down your summon as a red. Both steel and this guy should've been ready for the invasion experience, which includes healing and running away. Everyone who wants to push their arbitrary "rules" are goofy. That's why the arenas exist.
