Something I haven’t heard anyone say about this batch of Gen 9’s, but unlike the initial launch reviews from 2023, the Gen 9 (at least mine did) now comes with foldable door mirrors and Redcat’s newest RTX-4C transmitter. Nice to see Redcat make small running improvements like that.
Thanks, man! I really appreciate that! Yeah the 1080 definitely prevents that 0-100 reverse issue that the Scout has when you're just trying to back up a little bit lol
It looks like you're also running a 3S. My Gen 3 on a 3S did the same thing as you describe - was working fine, then no reverse and only full speed forward, even when just lightly applying throttle. I have mine set for LiPo and 50% drag brake. Redcat support sent me a replacement 1040, I confirmed it was set for LiPo and changed it for 50% drag brake. It did about 2 laps in my basement just fine, then the exact same symptoms. I plan to install my 1080 ESC as well because I can't really suspect that the issue is completely with Redcat and the ESC does have a tag on the battery wires saying to only use up to a 2S pack, even though the instructions say the ESC can support 3S. So I'm curious if the installed the replacement 1040 and if so, is it working fine for you on a 3S?
I was running 2S but had it set to nihm, not 100% sure if that is what blew out the ESC but seems likely. The 1040 is a very cheap ESC and it could have even been caused by the 50C discharge rate I was running in the 5200 mAh 2S battery. Redcat did send me a new 1040 but I had already put the 1080 in so the 1040 went in the "in case you may need it" drawer.
@@YARCWest Thank you for the reply. The Quickrun 1080 ESC is SO smooth and configurable that I'm going to keep it in my Gen 9 as well and order another one for the truck it was originally destined for. I let my son drive my Gen 9 this morning and now he wants a 1080 for his Gen 9 too. 😄
Curious. I picked up a Gen 9 two weeks ago, and my ESC came out of the box already set to Lipo & 100% drag. Also in your previous running video, the Gen 9 seemed much jerkier than what I’m experiencing. At the time, I just chalked it up to possible challenges of one-handed driving and filming, but maybe something else was going on with your ESC?
I could have gotten a lemon ESC tbh as it happens some times, I do get jerky with one handed driving though haha! My slow crawl isn't as good when using one hand for some reason.
Awesome video! Nice little truck 🍻
Thanks, man! Hope you're well
The car runs great sfter your repair👍
Indeed! Shame my stupidity forced me to upgrade :)

Same with mine, foldable mirrors and their new transmitter (the same as the Ascent Fusion).
Interesting. I modded a pair of Gen8 mirrors to mine. i will have to look into these new mirrors. thanks for the info. :)
Very nice! A 1080 is definitely an upgrade. Montoya looks great in there! You make just excellent videos!

@@YARCWest that stock 1040 is absolutely 0-100 in reverse lol it’s bad
@@NEO-RC I forgot how bad it was until I saw your video lol
Nice info, my gen 9 should be here Monday 🤙
Enjoy it!

See crazy good deals on these lately the 1080s are def good for brushed set ups.
For sure! If you're staying brushed you may as well go 1080. Appreciate you stopping by, dude!

If you stay brushed, I don't think there is a better ESC on the market than the 1080 when you factor in cost.
