Turkey is more of a threat to the west then Russia
That is not the only reason. Turkey is a secular democratic republic in Middle-East(which is unique in itself) that is open to negotiations with the West and the East. To add to that, geopolitically Turkey holds a great importance. Both sides have a lot to gain from this alliance, as fragile as it may be. Love from Turkey.

So basically in 1991 a military conflict started in abkazia between Georgia and the self-proclaimed government of abkazia in which abkazia received support from russia which gave them weapons and equipment Russia also sent in volunteers , but many people claim that the volunteers were actually regular army troops .also at that time Georgia was also in a conflict with South Ossetia (samachablo) which russia also took part in . during 2008 tensions were at a very high point so a war started in which Georgia did loose but abkazia didn't get involved in the war that much only joining in at the end of the war and barely participating in it . also not that many territorial changes took place during the war and no territorial changes took place in the coast

Great video, Shirvan. Your maps are the best on the internet. It's good to see historical maps laid over modern map outlines, ie. Poland 300 years ago. Your explanation of the cultural-historical situations helped to clarify a lot of questions I've had, especially about Crimea.

The Danube acually orignates even further north-west in Germany in the "Schwarzwald" and flows all the way along the austrian-German border until it crosses through Austria to Hungary.

Actually the Black Sea is called in this way not because of it's climate. Instead it is so called because of ancient Turkish language. The Ottomans, inhabiting todays Turkey, were use to refer and identify the North with the color Black and to the South with White. So, the sea on the north were called black sea, and the one on the south (Aegean/Med sea) as the White Sea.

First wrong detail in the beginning: the black sea is called black sea, because the turks had several colours for every cardinal direction. North was black and south was white. So the turks called it black sea (Karadeniz) and thats were the name came from!
For example the Mediterranean is called „Akdeniz“ in turkish which means white sea.

Shirvan, I think you should have at least mentioned that Crimean Tatars which were ethnically clensed by Russia are also a Turkic ethnicity. Tatars being Turkic makes it easier to understand why they did not allie with Russia like Poland. Also explains why Russia made a genocide there to eliminate the Turkic Crimean Tatars, thus, Turkic control on Crimea
And let's not forget, the whole entire Russian land on the black sea belonged to the Circassians who were wiped out and deported out of their homeland Circassia towards Ottoman lands in the Middle East and Turkey till this day

12:45 this is one of the reasons why Turkey is positioning itself as a mediator between Russia and Ukraine. Multiple countries, Turkey, China, India, for example are treading lightly fearing the repercussions resulting from gaining the ire of the west or Russia. Very turbulent times for those forecasting the geopolitical fallout of their countries actions.
Opinion based on facts. Doesn't try to create narratives. News channel reporters need to relearn their profession from such , neutral narration instead of opinionated depictions that are brazenly partisan.

I’ve been checking all your videos recently and it is clear to me that this conflict in Ukraine is a Russian attempt to control the Black Sea. I’d love to see you returning on this subject now that war has started in Ukraine. Please. I wonder how Russia would divide and keep Ukrainian borders to have more access to this region… I mean the possible scenarios.

You forgot to mention the Volga-Don Canal, it connects the Volga River (Russian heart land) with the Don, and thus also connecting the Caspian Sea and surrounding countries too.
Two questions: (1) How and why did Turkey get the S-400s from Russia, leading to the loss of bid for F-35s as a NATO member? (2) With inflation at 80%, why isn’t there a revolt in Turkey?
For the first question, I think Turkey wants to balance the power. Turkey does not want to be too reliant to a single power. But the second question is quite difficult to answer. I can't imagine what would happen if any west European country or America reaches such inflation level.
This sounds like a studious, unbiased, academic reading, if you may...
Zero rehtoric without losing emphasis on the inflexions takes effort... One that is not apparent in the diction.

Russia is not Slavic. It became Slavic by choice after conquering Ukraine ( Kiev Russ). Moskovites were considered as ugro-finnic until the 18. century.

Look at the initial name "KIEVSKAYA RUS" first word is adjective / or actually real name was just "RUS"/ many centuries later historians give a name "Kiev Rus" to differ the time periods of Rus when "capital was Kiev, later Moscow". Later there is name Moscow Rus in 15 centure// So Kiev Rus was "Russia" (but there was no this name yet). Later the lands were conquered by Mongols. Cities were separated. Moscow was the city which was competing with Tver city to collect other Rus cities together to become one state again and fight against Mongols who was holding the lands and robbering and killing people around at that time.
Btw do you know what means UKRAINE? = U_kraya / Okraina = "the border". It was a border between Russia and Poland (Rzeczpospolita at that time) The lands were called like "border" or "Okraina". Later there was fight and Poland lost and some parts of their lands went to Russia (Galitsino and others, if i'm not mistaken). Ukranian was a dialict Russian on border. Later there was influence of Austria-Hungary on forming nationalistic ideas in Russian borderlands to make Russia unstable and separated. Then Greeks took the name Axin which they say means black in ancient Scythian or Persian but in Greek it means inhospitable. Which it was for Greek navy because it didnt have much wind. After establishing Pontic greek city states Greeks changed its name to Euxinus which meant hospitable.

@@DawnDudex Take note that many bodies of water are named in a way that is opposite of what someone would expect. The Pacific Ocean, the cape of good hope and Euxinos Pontos (Black Sea in Greek) are some examples. People named them this way expressing their hope for good winds and a tranquil sea.

Great and thorough analysis! However, you mention Russia conquering Ukrainian lands as if Ukraine was an independent country in 18th century. Would be good to point out the historical connection to Kievan Rus, and not just mention that Russia is invading a neighbouring country all of a sudden. Also, wasn't Crimea "gifted" to Ukraine during Soviet times? When they were drawing borders without ever thinking the Soviet union will fall apart.
Maybe it would be a good idea for a next video to talk about the intricacies of Russian/Ukrainian national identity and issues. When Ukraine created its national identity and separated itself from Russian nation? Seems more relevat than ever.

That's the stability policy.It's so close to russia so has to have good relations but at the same time turkey is an ally of us and nato.Basically it would be dangerous to stand in one side so turkey is staying in the middle.

If you look carefully on Turkey's location and how they call former Ottoman border seas (kara deniz/black sea, ak deniz/mediterranean, kızıl deniz/red sea - all became obviously clear.
IMHO, despite Russia is a real powerhouse, Turks did change deeply the region and it is hardly be disputed by anyone soon.

The name is actually much older, and goes back to the old Persians, at least 500 B.C.E. The Greeks then adapted the name axšaina from the Iranian/Persians into Πόντος Ἄξεινος.
The association with Black/North, Red/South, White/West, Green/East does seem to be correct and come from the Persians as well, it might even be from China originally. The Turks, Tibetans, Ainu and other Asian cultures use the system as well.
