Actually the Black Sea is called in this way not because of it's climate. Instead it is so called because of ancient Turkish language. The Ottomans, inhabiting todays Turkey, were use to refer and identify the North with the color Black and to the South with White. So, the sea on the north were called black sea, and the one on the south (Aegean/Med sea) as the White Sea.

First wrong detail in the beginning: the black sea is called black sea, because the turks had several colours for every cardinal direction. North was black and south was white. So the turks called it black sea (Karadeniz) and thats were the name came from!
For example the Mediterranean is called „Akdeniz“ in turkish which means white sea.
You can thank me later :)

Also, wasn't Crimea "gifted" to Ukraine during Soviet times? When they were drawing borders without ever thinking the Soviet union will fall apart.

If you look carefully on Turkey's location and how they call former Ottoman border seas (kara deniz/black sea, ak deniz/mediterranean, kızıl deniz/red sea - all became obviously clear.

The association with Black/North, Red/South, White/West, Green/East does seem to be correct and come from the Persians as well, it might even be from China originally. The Turks, Tibetans, Ainu and other Asian cultures use the system as well.

You betray ignorance. The Description by color (Black) is old. It goes back to the legend of Pontus and Talassa. Synonyms have been used since those days, but the name is really old, like 2nd millennium B.C.E. old). Colchis, land of the "dark-skinned and wooley hair" in present day Georgia; the sorceress Media of Jason and the Argonauts, who in her own right was a black figure (mythically, as it is allegory), they are all by the Black Sea. The Egyptian Army under the Pharaoh Sesostris [Senusrut III] (1872-1854 B.C.E.) ravaged the region. Do not forget also that the Ethiopian queen Cassiopeia lent her name to the Caspian Sea. It too could be called Black Sea because Cassiopeia is a form of Cush (Kush).
Seljuk Turks may have preserved the sense of the name and adopted it forcefully (I do not know), but they had NO reason to call it Black. They had received the name. Checkout Herodotus.

@@bircruz555 Why do you think I do betray it?
If you would carefully read my link and replies attached, you would see that: 1. The first depiction of animals/paths was 5300 B.C. in China (Tell me more here about Egyptians/Achaeans around the Black sea at that time) I assume East Asian symbolic tradition came westward via caravans to Persia and all Persified subjects(including, firstly Ionians, lastly- Seljukids). 2. Despite that, I did agree that they received and pinned it, why Ottomans had no reason to call it so, hm? 3. As for the Caspian sea - wow, it seems you operate some secret data since Wikipedia folks know nothing about that shorturl.at/fqNX4 Plus, how it corresponds with the subject?
Al in all, your humble servant would appreciate a link share, since he did not find anything about Herodotus that describe some black/dark-skinned figures after which the whole see was named.

Would love to see a video on the Invasion of Georgia, it all seems like a pre curser to what is happening now and for what is to come, would make a great playlist to share with people so they can understand what is going on, why and where it could be going. Cheers! Love the content!
