  • Introduction to the terribly audacious Schliemann Defense - A madman's way to handle the Ruy Lopez, throwing the game into total chaos!
An excellent summary of all variations of the Schliemann can be found here: lichess.org/st... - Definitely check it out as I will be referencing it in my future videos

3 f5 is a forced move for me as i stand no chance against my 15 year older experienced top level ruy lopez fanboy player. Gotta mix things up

Sack the rook, swing the queen over to the H file, it's a GG! 😉

@@ScottySoul031Amazingly I saw this immediately, because this pattern shows up often in chess puzzles.

Thank you, this is a very interesting line that I can use when playing against the Ruy Lopez. Good video!

A truly bold opening choice, the Schliemann is not for the faint of heart; thank you for the introduction, I have been looking for an opening to muddy the waters against the Ruy Lopez.

It is cool that you were able to surprise him! Surprised a pro was surprised by this line though. It is a well-known dangerous side-line.

I know for sure i am not a good player. What I am unsure about is white's plan of action after his nice attack and I am not even sure if the white player knew. After his attack he never developed a single piece beyond the third rank. Except for the bishop which he lost right away. Instead he spent 2 moves on the queen chasing pawns, but he didn't take either of them! It's like he spent all his mental energy to figure out he could sacrifice the knight to create a devastating attack with the queen, but after that he could not conjure up any more meaningful moves, besides perhaps castles. That pawn to f5 move messed him up good.

Your intuition is correct. In my post-game analysis I think my opponent thought he will just get ahead in development and win in the ending. However, his greed would be punished in the middle-game. Like with all gambits, if you are greedy against them, you will be punished massively!

it hink the white's mistake is
    1. Nxe5, so white loses the horse with dxe4..
    2. after Qh8x, white should immediately expand his pawns, not move to Qc3, maybe O-O or e3, ithink the best move is O-O, so the Quenn have frend to defence or attack next

@@ThePawnslayerChessVideos I’m sorry. Your right. The. Giuoco Piano’s similar opening is the Rousseau Gambit.

@@cwgriffin1 I find the Rosseau a bit too dubious for my liking. Having the bishop on c4 compared to b5 makes a big difference to the position as the bishop cuts down that diagonal and prevents castling - really annoying to deal with. I like the 2 knights against the Italian and the Calabrese can be an interesting alternative against the Bishop's opening (The Rosseau one more earlier)

I thought too at first but sadly no... e5 is not covered so queen goes to e5 and the oponent smacks the rook without even losing his knight

@@ThePawnslayerChessVideos I didn't say I loved the Schilemann before it had a name (only then would I need to be over 100 years old, which will happen someday!); rather I said I loved it before I *knew* it had a name (since I didn't study much theory). Now I'm adding names to all the things I figured out myself through the years. If I had the resources to study as I do now, I'd not have to have needed to reinvent the wheel so many times. Chess players today are the luckiest in terms of access to chess study resources.
