One of the most restrained and under-rated mrudangist...what a fantastic thaniaavarthana..i played and listen to it again..of course Sudhaji and Violion:Charumathi Raghuraman , Mrudangam:R Sankaranarayanan, Morsing : R Raman, Tambura Hariharan were performing one of my most favourite krithees too. 1 hour of my lifetime re-invested in supreme spiritual bliss and company of my Kuladeivam 🙏
Thanks for sharing this recording. She is one very strong vocalist. Just listen to the first 15 minutes where she renders the whole raaga powerfully without any beats. The deep influence of northern Hindustani Music is very clear in that part. Nothing wrong, I enjoyed that and it could be one of her strengths - how she incorporates Hindustano alaaps in Karnataki style. She is a 'fast' singer too, much more comfortable at a higher tempo than any vilambit. Again I see that as her strength. Typically in Hindustani Vocal Concert, a singer may not sing any variation of Bharavi more than 15 or 20 minutes. She sings her much more than that, all very pleasing and beautiful. All her accompanists are fabulous and deserve hefty acknowledgment for what they have contributed to this great concert. Best wishes to this crew.
Nathabhairavi is not a variation of Bhairavi. It's a whole another scale. Speaking in Hindustani terms Nathabhairavi is equivalent to the Asaveri Thaat. Secondly, there is nothing northern or hindustani about her singing. Everybody sings like this only, without percussion or any other accompaniments. That is how raga alapana is done is carnatic music.
