  • This week, the LGPA rolled out the red carpet for Caitlin Clark at her first pro-am golf event. Paired with top golfer, Nelly Korda, Caitlin drew a massive crowd to the course and fans around the world watched on television. The golf community welcomed Caitlin with open arms… so why couldnt the WNBA do the same this season!? Today I share my thoughts on this in much needed rant video 😂. Enjoy!

I'm a golf pro. The LPGA got new leadership a few years ago and since then the LPGA has taken off in popularity. I have lots of young girls wanting too learn how to play and it's glorious. Golf is great for mental health and teaches kids good values like honesty and integrity when no one is looking

This is analogous to the WWE. There were certain pro wrestlers who became so popular that they became the face of the company and were able to dictate their own terms. People like John Cena and Duane "the Rock" Johnson.Their brands outshone the WWE brand. Vince McMahon, WWE owner, would not let happen again and the company has never pushed or promoted another wrestler beyond a certain level of popularity. Let's see how the WNBA goes forward.

Tards. I also believe it's no accident that Nike is sabotaging this girl while building up Wilson and JuJu with shoe deals. Funny how they didn't do the same and they paid Maria Sharapova hundreds of millions of dollars and Serena Williams a much greater player much less over the years. F*** Nike I'm sorry Caitlin has s*** agents and stupid parents and a dumb boyfriend. You couldn't hook her up with the best basketball agent in the world? WTF. Maria Sharapova probably made over $200 million in 10 years with Nike and an 8-year contract Caitlin is going to make 28 million from Nike. F****** tards man.

There seems to be political issues with Nike. Apparently CC is not Democratic enough? I would be interested if anyone knows more about this issue and can comment. I find this issue surprising, if true, given the lack of difference between the Democratic and Republican parties and the appalling world "events" both support.

Played golf all my life, and was a scratch golfer for a time. I played in state tournaments, and for my local college. WE got more promotion, than the WNBA did for this event. And it was next to nothing.
The WNBA didn't, "fumble" imho. I'd say they more INTENTIONALLY kicked the crap out of their own reputation, because their AGENDA means more to them, than creating something for the fans, and people to support.
Other than that, I think you've nailed this all along. All one has to see? The TONS of PRO women golfers, who busted their asses to get to Caitlin Clark, totally excited like little girls going to a insanely popular boy-band concert, just to get a selfie or something signed. And Caitlin, as per usual gave back, with grace and style, as much as she was given by these huge talents in Women's golf. It was truly great to see, after a few dark years on this tour.
And I fully agree, once they see their numbers.. but more importantly, because of who & what Caitlin Clark does both on & off the court/course? The LPGA will be busting their collective asses as well, to get this gal into as many of their events as possible- and speak kindness to and about her at every turn, to MAKE SURE people fully understand, THEY believe she's an important, and awesome human being, they honestly wish to be tied to.
THIS, is real sport. THIS, is what's been missing from it, for far too many years now.
THIS? Feels like HEALING. THIS? Feels HEALTHY, POSITIVE, and like "Going in the right direction".
The WNBA? Feels like the POISON trying to encroach upon everything, making whatever it touches just as sick as it has been, for FAR too long.

Rachel, the WNBA is focused on the fact that Clark is NOT a typical WNBA player; she’s not Black, Lesbian and assumed ghetto! She’s mainstream, White, heterosexual and Catholic! Quite the opposite of what the typical WNBA is! Clark is like you articulate, highly educated ( she expresses herself well and respectfully speaks her mind regarding basketball related topics, doesn’t hummms, scratches her head or monosyllabic mumbles her replies) she knows the game and has analyzed the strategies and mechanics of the game! This makes some people nervous and uncomfortable! Naturally some people are threatened but most of the general public look for those kinds of qualities in role models! I love everything Caitlin Clark is, including her charity work and community involvement; serving and there is admirable and desirable. As a young boy I admired Roberto Clemente not only for his baseball talent but for the kind of man that he was; giving his life in service to his people. At 22 CC has learned tremendously important lessons from her family and I admire the whole package of who CC is as a woman. I’m guessing most of us are responding to this, on top of her tremendous talent in basketball: she’s classy. If I had a sports outlet I’d hire you.

But suffice that it is character, one has it the other does not. On the LPGA tour she is truly the interloper, but they treat her with grace and awe. Cause they’re going to be more players like Caitlin coming to play in the league. The future players are going to bring in even more money so they need to give them their dues once they get there. You can’t silence greatness. Greatness needs to be shown. But if they are going to treat them like that then expect them to not want to stick around for long. You hit it on the head. They normally don’t sell tickets to Pro-Am day. Not this time. Ticket sales went through the roof. They certainly don’t televise Pro-Am events. They did time. The LPGA put her on a panel to talk to the media along side of Annika. Golf Channel had extensive coverage of Caitlin leading up to the event and being at the event. They had interviews with other players talking about what it was like to have her there. The LPGA players loved it. They knew it brought so many more eyes to their event. Caitlin was getting LPGA players interested in watching and going to WNBA games now. It was a win for everyone. Too bad the WNBA chose not to get on board with all the free advertising they could have gotten.
One correction, she played 9 hole with Nelly Korda, the current #1 player in the world. The second 9 she played with Annika Sorenstam, Golf HOF and host of the tournament.

Minor correction: Clark played with Korda for 9 holes and then switched partners and played with golf legend Anika Sorenstam (one of, if not the, best female golfers of modern times). ProAm tournaments in golf are always big deals. Lots of people tune in to watch their favorite golfers and their favorite celebrities playing together. The purses in LPGA events are climbing because they push for this kind of exposure; the more women's leagues do things like this, the more viewers they'll get and the higher the salaries will go.

The lpga also provides opportunities to volunteer during the tournaments! Its a great way to bring in fans! Not sure how the W could bring in something similar, but its such a great way to elevate fan experience!

Yes, hesitancy is a word - it's also an accurate description of what the WNBA did. They seemed to stop acknowledging Caitlin when some current/former players and analysts expressed envy by saying that giving her so much attention was disrespectful to other current and former players (which is ridiculous, as other current players were endlessly praised all season long). I can't see them holding Juju or even Paige back like they did to Caitlin - they'll most likely be fully embraced, but time will tell. As an older fan that had been waiting for the W to take off like it did this season, I felt it was a massive disservice to the league to stifle Caitlin's greatness....because it grossly limited the league from achieving the full opportunity for potential growth that they had before them. They're lucky many of the newer fans are so invested and loyal to Caitlin/became fans of the Fever and other players (appreciated other aspects of the league that the league didn't diminish), or they would've lost all of the new momentum they'd gained. The LPGA understood how Caitlin being there could help grow their league - and wisely didn't waste the opportunity.

I have never felt closer to you than after seeing you in this video. I love seeing you're as frustrated as all of us Caitlin Clark fans. You literally said, almost verbatim, what all of us have been commenting in the comment section of the LPGA site, and all the others that have been covering Caitlin's play. It's also nice to see you happy being with your husband and watching him play. Also, for sure, we want to see your vlogs of all your travels. It'll be fun to see the world through your eyes.

You are so tight on point. The thing is, the LPGA are a class by itself comprosed of Professional LADIES as their title inplies, whereas the WNBA, I dont know what word to use, coz its unfair for the other women players, but some entitled so called "legends" are just hos. Enjoy Europe Rachel nut hope to see you back covering the Womens NCAA basketball tournament. Anyways, rant all younwant the WNBA deserve it. Take care goegeous❤

Exactly... the W needs to be in full on damage control mode at this point... but no...
I was very excited to have a new sport to watch and tell people about. Now, my hope is that she plays overseas and in a league without unprovoked attacks and open jealousy. W should have stepped in... lost me when they didn't.
