i've seen a lot of really great tips in the comments on how to make the challenge go easier, but i've already recorded part 3 before uploading this and im now editing it, so sadly i can't use any of the advice you guys gave me which kinda sucks on the bright side though, part 3 should be up sometime this week ;)
So, definitly to late, but you could have used a printed Map for this Challenge, or do that next Time, if you want no Mods. If you do like Mods, i advice to get some Peacefull Leviathan Mods in addition to an In-Game Map. So helpfull
The thermal reactor module is like the second coming of christ for this run. You can just build a couple of cell chargers, and park the cyclops over a safe shallows heatvent for like an hour or 2. Boom, infinite power.
There are areas in the lava zone where you can park the cyclops a while to let it charge without being close enough to the dragons to get their attention. Long as you bring the polyaniline and wiring kit you can just grab a couple kyanite and craft it up in the Cyclops, then just start charging right down there.
@user-if8kt5iy2h He's probably already finished the thing, so let's just hope he thought of that ahead of time himself. He seemed to be going specifically for some kyanite, so hopefully he'll have made the module so he could get the Cyclops charged up there.
You get a short grace period for crush depth damage. In a DeathRun a few weeks ago, I built the modification station right next to the cyclops module console, took the module out, upgraded it, and plugged it back in without taking any damage. This even worked in the inactive lava zone after getting kyanite. It's super satisfying to pull off. Try it next time, just save first in case you mis-click.
something interesting is that the cyclops shield negates ALL damage, including crush depth damage, meaning if you want to sacrifice some additional power, you can upgrade like above with no risk (I've done it twice, and I'm pretty sure it didn't even given me a crush depth warning either time).
i dont understand it well, but the cyclops also has some regenerative layer of health, i have a modification station in the bridge and its possible to sprint to and from it with the depth module and in that time, it only takes damage to the regenerative layer
If you make sure you have the polyaniline and wiring kit for the thermal reactor module before you get down in the Lava Zone, you can grab a couple Kyanite and craft it up to start getting back some power charge.
I love videos from these smaller channels! Can't wait for part three. Actually, part one made me want to play subnautica so bad I went ahead and fixed my old xbox one, but apparently I lost the profile with the game but at least I'm up an xbox, love these vids!
Just a note, you actually can craft depth modules for the cyclops below depth! Just place your modification station directly next to your upgrades, and if you are fast enough you can quickly take the depth module out and craft the next one then place it back in. This should avoid any damage to the cyclops, hope this was helpful :)
17:15 i've upped the depth module many times down there, it doesn't really take that much damage if you're quick enough. you can always just repair the cyclops anyways
I saw your first video on this challenge and decided to try it myself, i beat it not long ago, and it was really fun to do, cant wait to see part 3 and how you do it compared to my playthrough
Haven't watched the video yet, but I have a challenge for you. Beat the game with NO BASES OR VEHICLES! It IS possible, it just will take a well powered seaglide and 2 high capacity O2 tanks (the one made with lithium). It also takes careful positioning (where will you get to the lost river, and where will you go to the lava zone). No air replenishment except for the lifepod or the surface basically.
Cyclopes is required for crafting rocket shield generator so impossible for an absolute zero vehicle run. Emergency 15 seconds of O2 is also a backup for normal O2 is gained eating raw bladder fish but does knock hydration down a couple of notches. But yeah good challenge idea, I wouldn't like to take it on though. Lol.
Hey, if you turn on your shield generator you can pull out your depth module and not take any damage. You would have time to upgrade it and put it back in.
U can actually make the upgrade been under the depht limit, (of course, you need to be fast) cyclops is gonna take some damage, but nothing more than 15-25% of its health. I usually do this in my playtroughs
I always just put the mod station right by the upgrade terminal. If you’re quick, taking out the depth module should only do about 6% damage which repairs automatically
quick tips : i don't like using copper cause it's rare in the beginning so i search caves looking for explodings fiches,in the "safe area" there are like 50of them,i take their sulfure, make some rubber xith the green seeds of creep vines and turn scrapes into titanium to make repair tool, then undo the felly charged up battery it has and it gives me a free batterie with entierly renewing ressources it helps a lot with mass crafting cause u just pick up ressources that are gthered at the same place instead of relying on the luck when breaking shells looking for copper,repair-tool farming is just more reliable and time efficient and if your normal batterie runs out, take it out,mke it a scanner (1 battery whatever its % is + 1 titanium) and it gives u a fully charged scanner, take out the battery,u just recharged a battery for 1 titanium never make battery charger in cyclops as it use powercell battery, what u can do is craft the energetic flippers thing that recharge battery in cobo with ur seaglide in order to moove faster while still recharging battery,u just have to take the fully charged battery, put it in your tools, take their low battery, and recharge it with the sea glide, always making sure it has low battery in order to always charge them hehe
If you need magnetite Go to the mountains. If you need sulfur go to one of the L River entrances near a blood kelp zone, underwater islands, and the mushroom forest zone. Which has a ton of nickel, titanium, silver, and more. To navigate it you need to hug the left side of the wall to completely evade the ghost baby. If you need ion cubes there is a sanctuary in the blood kelp zone, deep space reef zone, Dunes, The crater. I suggest only beating Subnautica with a prawn suit next. Good luck.
16:20 This is where I had my base, with the sight on the tree. The base was huge.. And I am so sad I lost my screenshots after system reinstall, because I forgot to back them up..
I put a locker on each side of the engine room and filled each with power cells so i would not run out of power also in the lava zone i took the power cells out and put them in the lockers. I also put power cell and battery chargers in mine
isn't it like you can build energy generators inside of a cyclops? unless i'm misremembering something and you can only use the thermal generator upgrade
You get a good chunk of time to swap depth modules despite submarines warning. Just craft everything for the depth mod beforehand & do a really quick craft & swap with the final piece.
If you have the modification station placed appropriately, you can take out the depth Mk I, upgrade it, and stick it back in, all before the cyclops dies.
BIG TIP 4YAl if you enter the lava zone go to the ghost lavaithan that garding a hole in the ground. Fo in there and you enter the lava zone. When you enter the zone where the sea dragons are . Al you need to do is go trait to enter the lava castel. When your done. Turn back where you came from. Just before you enter the part where the sea drogons cant go. There is a hole there. Go in there and your in the lava lava zone. And then go trait to the main facility. So dont enter lava zone by the cove trea
Hey a small tip if you need one more ion cube in the sea emperors aquarium is another one back where the vent (the one that brings in peepers) is should be a portal and right around there should be another ion cube hope this helps :)
i'm pretty sure that by the aurora there is a time capsule that says something like " keep exploring deeper" and in the time capsule there is a cyclops depth module 3. I saw IGP get it. I know the series is over and you already got mk3 but if you do anymore subnautica. There you go
How are you recharging the cyclops before getting the thermal module. Is there a way to make the cyclops self sufficent that I don't know about? Or are you just replacing the power cells?
Btw to can upgrade depth module under depth linit without going back up if you are fast enough because it will barely take any damage and the damage it will take is probably only to the recharging shield
lets see... - you absolutely do not need so many power cells. you have the thermal recovery mod, just install most dead cells and park above a vent to charge them back up - kyanite (and nickel?) didn't have small deposits to start with, so you required the cyclops to beat the game, but subnautica has received many nerfs over the years (which I personally don't like) - you swim much faster if you aren't holding a tool (like a scanner) - if you're searching for fragments in an area, don't ignore frags you don't need. scan them to remove them, and another (randomly selected) frag will spawn elsewhere. it's very easy to get most or all the frags in an area to be something you don't need, and what you need will never spawn because all the frag spawns are populated - you have it SO easy nowadays with titanium - metal salvage didn't used to respawn, and again you required the prawn suit to have access to a lot of titanium - leeches do not respawn and can be killed with three hits from a knife, so once you've cleared an area, they're no longer a problem - build storage lockers (two rows high) over the existing lockers in the cyclops, to give yourself 5-6x the storage capacity - bulb trees are the best source of food and water (they don't give as much food, but they give food and water in about the ratio you need) - you can get by on three trees but I usually plant four, in pots for easier access - so get a cutting on one of the islands - tapping the cyclops shield will detach all leeches but I don't think it hurts them and they'll just reattach later, so kill them (the holo status display on the left in the bridge shows where they're attached which is super helpful especially when its dark outside)
I never understood using ion batteries cells on your cyclops you can always carry more cells in you cyclops but on the prawn and seamoth you don't have nearly as much storage as the cyclops

I park mine in the lava zone, in the peaceful area between the two dragon leviathans
