he always explains ‘spiritual ‘ concepts in such a straightforward manner...he never tries to dazzle or complicate with his words. Such a great teacher

I am stuck in a job situation where I am purposely being isolated, gaslit, and excluded. Yet I stay because I fear letting go. This video popped up on my feed this evening. Thank you, this is the gem I needed to hear!!!

Yes, rest in peace. Very educative. Please allow me to interrupt. I know it is rude but I feel it’s my duty to inform Buddhists of what I know. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. In Pidhauli (Vaishali) the local deity is Bardiha Baba. Bardiha means the Baba who didn't allow us to stay where he was staying. Bardiha Baba is the Buddha no doubt because he didn't allow the crowd of Lichavies to stay with him in Bandagama. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to you. I have just videographed Maha Prajapati Gautamies Parinirvana temple. She is regarded the great grandmother of that are just as Buddha is regarded as grandfather (Baba).

I don’t regret the past but I’m sad that part of my life is over. This is my cow. Thinking about the past that is gone is very painful. Children grown and out of the house. All of family older. I am missing out on the present when I am sad. I pray that I can let go and accept life on life’s terms. Then there’s the future which I can be fearful about. Like losing my parents, we all die etc. Another cause of sadness which is painful. Past and future keep me from enjoying my life, the present moment. Letting go is very relevant and I loved this talk. I have to let my cows go. Love to all.

When I look around and see newspapers and watch some news items I feel most humans are living empty lives with the only purpose of gaining wealth and sense pleasure and trying to avoid suffering.Thay sensibly says that many people take refuge in shopping, watching films and going on holiday in order to heal the suffering..I think in order to live more freely I’ve found it necessary to look deeply into life and death and learn the art of suffering so we suffer less..I’ve been reading Thays books for 30 years and it has helped me transform many negative energies..I still have fear at times but when it arises I tried to hold it like Thay suggests and it does then have less impact..I like Thays words as they are non dogmatic too..thanks my friend

Letting go is a wonderful practise that brings freedom, joy and peace. My attachments has caused me to suffer a lot. If we are honest with ourself, we might see our attachments that cause us to suffer. Letting go is hard many times, but u can do it! U deserve to suffer less. We all do! I still work on them. And i know for a fact its obstacles for my joy and happiness..
I hope u all have a great life with much joy and happiness!
We are all pretty much the same and are here with each other. Nobody deserve to overwhelm with suffering, my feeling is that such a person like this is very important for us right now.
He helped me to realise that my running towards objects of craving is a hinderance for my peace and happiness. Many of us suffer, as my self. This man learned me that suffering is not bad, cuz if u know how ot suffer. U suffer less..
I wish u all peace, joy and happiness and dont feel weak if u suffer. Without suffering u cannot know happiness.

Death cannot part you from the one you love .❤ ,for love will always claim its own .Your sorrow is based on ignorance .With knowledge you could be sure that the one you love ❤ is closer than ever he or she has been before .You could taste some of the joy that comes with appreciation of an understanding of spiritual reality . Do not mourn because a caterpillar has become a beauteous butterfly .Do not weep because the cage has been opened and the bird has been set free ! Rejoice and know that the enfranchisement soul has found liberty and that ,if you would but unfold the powers that the Great Spirit has given you,you could share some of the new beauty and joy which is theirs .You could understand the plan of death and realise that death s but a stepping stone,a door through which you enter into the larger freedom of realms of the spirit ...

Letting go of your family who have rejected you...? it already hurts from being let go of, actually from being alienated after so much love given... It is painful just as it is. I thought I let it all go, yet then I'll have a dream from a graceful acceptance..then I wake up, and it is the same as before. The dream felt beautiful, but today our separation remains the same. Yet, I feel changed. :)

I very much enjoyed this! Thank you, I don't hold on to anything of value and I could be very wealthy. I am smart enough, I use my knowledge to help others. The day money or material items define myself worth is the day I have lost my sense of self. I keep enough to make sure we can survive, I want for nothing because my inner peace gives me everything I need:) The saying money burns a hole in your pocket, it's true! I don't like it so I do things for others with it. Invest in memories, give homeless people money just get rid of it! Lol It sounds silly but, my needs are simple and the good Lord makes sure I am always ok. Therefore I know I need to be doing his work on the ground by caring for as many people as I can. It's a really good deal God and I have:) I give unconditionally and he in turn makes sure I am safe. Can't take money with you, it's the root of most evil. I enjoyed that immensely so I thank you:)

You got it right.

Sometimes a type of practice called flooding as in saturating yourself with an idea or practice is helpful. Listening to this lecture 3 or more times in a row or countering the thought "he doesn't care with" many people" will care about me soon.Saying it each and every time you have the thought is important. Saying something believable is important even if you don't believe it right now. Try to think of the mind as a computer what you put in you get coming out . Think of the negative thoughts as one of his cows he talks about that you can release. Good luck life is temporary no matter how long it seems. Someday you might regret the time you wasted on people who don't love you while standing next to you is someone who will. Have hope and optimism. That is what attracts people. Then it is the dilemma of:
Letting go = passive or no ambition
What I understand he wants us to remove that particular status/position/gains which you decided consiously or subconsciously you won't be happy without.
I don't think he is calling for modesty in terms of not having big ambition in life ? Any ideas

    • @poonamsvideoblogs
      @poonamsvideoblogs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

Letting go does not contradict having ambition. It is a letting go of that which causes sorrow and also the results of our ambitions. Of course we want sucess, but when we want it only for itself that can cause suffering. Practice your mission / your work with joy and don't be moved by succcess or failure. Except to know when it's time to let go as if it is not going to work but it becomes an obsession. So, that is my understanding. Good point. Not passive at all, letting go. Letting go is very active.

What it reminds me of is; not so much the act of possessing material but not letting material come to possess one. We will always need shelter, food, tools and furniture to facilitate our lives, what we don’t need is to never be satisfied and strive for more material, until we neglect things like; peace of mind, relationships and the short period we have in this world. In my country, there was a saying; “in the end, he who acquires the most toys, wins.” Until a counter maxim came about; “he who acquires the most toys, still dies.” We all need material, not materialism; it’s the fine line between a collector and a hoarder.

When we read the story about the cows in a meditation group I sometimes attend, we laughed like this audience and thought we should all get t-shirts that said, "Release your cows!" However, that story always disturbs me. The monks and sitting in the forest relied for their sustenance on those willing to take on the burden of the cows and the crops and then share the results in generosity. This story is as bothersome to me as the "the poor you will have with you always" speech.

I understand your concern. It is true that monastics lived then in a society that would feed them (vegetables.) Now, monastics often grow their own food and offer retreats and teachings to raise money to support themselves. The point being made though is that possessions can cause us stress because we have to care for them and guard them. So, monks and nuns in Plum Village are allowed no personal possessions, only communal ones, except their robes. We think, when I have this or this, I will be happy. We can be happy now.

I sit through three and four hour operas and not a single person coughs or sneezes. Ever. Americans can't simply let go. We're in a perpetual state of conflict because of our belief systems. The harder we struggle, the more we break things. Our political system is broken. Our spiritual belief systems are beyond reach. Even Vietnam has fallen into the grasp and temptation of Western Capitalism. This world is moving towards a state where letting go will be impossible. This is because of our attachments to wealth and money. Even if we take away the money factor, we could never let go of our values that makes us who we are. Sorry, but most of us are trapped.

I feel your pain. I’ve found some hope in the work of attempts to create economic democracy through worker cooperatives (cooperation jackson is a great example). If we collectively own and control the places where we work we have a better chance of acting in the collective interest, and letting go of the false competitiveness with each other that the capitalist market produces.
