  • Masahiko Kimura is one of the world’s most renowned Bonsai masters. In this unique and exclusive interview, conducted in his garden near Tokyo, we ask about his early years as apprentice, the way he educates his students and how he successfully build his business.
Mr. Kimura also teaches an online masterclass at Bonsai Empire, see:
    www.bonsaiempire.com/courses/...
Four of his apprentices will give a demonstration at the European Bonsai San Show, October 15th and 16th 2016, so mr. Kimura also talks about his students and briefly introduces them to the audience. The movie ends with a tour through his wonderful Bonsai garden.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Master Masahiko Kimura to welcome us in his home and his magical world of Bonsai. We also thank the Nippon Bonsai Association for their support and specifically to Makiko Kobayashi, and of course Marco Invernizzi.
Finally we thank our team of translators: Miguel Vaquera and Xema Laguna Font for the Spanish version, Violeta Valero Font for the German version, Andrei Darusenkov for the Russian version, Bergson Vasconcelos and Nacho Marin for the Portuguese version, Stefanie Chenal for the French version and Marco Invernizzi for the Italian version.

    Such an amazing human being!
To know he would marry his late wife again and would do the art he loves again shows he truly followed his correct path in life. Not many of us could say the same...
This is a man I would love to meet, what an inspiration he is!

My hero from when I started Bonsai and I still count my blessings that in the late 1990ties I was able to spend an evening with him in at a Bonsai convention in Italie. He was very approachable and we all got a bit drunk! Years later we met again in Germany and he still remembered me...he is that nice a guy!!! 🙏
    Cheers,
    Hans van Meer.

Beautifully done. A sensitive and evocative interview with one of the world's treasures in Bonsai. Thank you so much for this, as you have showed Master Kimura to be in the end... a Mortal, aging man. One who is,
    Proud of his legacy.
Secure in the knowledge that his trees are indeed, Master-Works.
Content in the heritage, history and future work of those he has trained so well.
    Outstanding!

To me, Kimura is the godfather of "modern" bonsai. He brought bonsai to a new level and opened it to the western world like no other. A true genius and inspirational.

To think Bonsai Master Pro like Suzuki, Urishibata & Fujikawa who have won the highest Bonsai awards in Japan have their sons train under Kimura, the show's how much Mr Kimura is so respected and want to learn from the best.
