We are watching this video as part of a course for counselling at university (all the way in Australia)! Thanks for all that you do for the kids and for sharing this with us - soon-to-be counsellors! Take care xx
Finally a school counselor youtuber!!!! I'm currently on my second year as a school counselor, my first year I was a middle school counselor and this year I'm a High school counselor... definitely a big difference!
Bryan Gomez I want to get into counseling im currently a psychology undergrad and plan on getting my masters in counseling education i prefer to work in high school education, with this profession is it common to be able to select which level of education one would like to work in?
I am currently a double major in sociology/social work and will be graduating Spring 2020. I am so glad, that I stumbled upon your channel as I have been digging into the realm of a school counselor. I feel that is my nitch, as I want to eventually work in higher education as well. I just really love helping other students grow and helping to encourage them to succeed in life. I am looking at a masters program in school counseling. I know that when I was younger I struggled with academics, and it wasn't until I have grown older that I realized it's my passion.
Good choice you get to help at risk youth teens succeed so they don't suffer as adults and pays much more than being a social worker with holidays and summers off 🤘🏼
I loved this video! I've been considering becoming a school counselor off and on since I graduated but would always find reasons to drop the idea. You're the first person I've seen talk about becoming a counselor with an undergrad that isn't super related and that's something that was holding me back from pursuing the field.Thank you for creating this channel and i'm so excited to see your future videos!
Robin many of my peers had bachelor degrees or previous careers unrelated to counseling. I think educators with diverse backgrounds add to school communities. :)
360 students!? Wow! I felt I could really relate to the “why” question that you answered about why you chose this career. I’d love to hear an update about your experience as a school counselor. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Please make more videos :) I enjoyed this video so much. I'm debating on if school counseling or school psychology is for me, and I am sure your videos will be more than helpful!
Hi Myra, I want to thank you for your very helpful video. Like you, I graduated with a degree in business in was working as an Accountant ever since. However, I've always had a passion for advocating children and want nothing more except to see them flourish. I am currently back in school taking grad courses for school counseling. :) Watching your video let's me know that it's never too late to do what I want. Thank you again for your video and I would love to watch more videos about your process of becoming a school counselor.
Thank you, Ying Lin. I definitely plan on making more videos. What would you like me to address about school counseling? I have a few ideas jotted down but would love to hear what you're interested in. Thank you for liking and subscribing!

Oh my gosh you sound similar to me! I graduated with a Public Relations degree which was a mistake! haha I have been to South Korea twice and plan to teach there in Feb of 2020. Currently I am back in school for human services but that's such a broad field so I'm trying to figure out if school counseling might be a good fit for me!
Hi Myra, I really enjoyed this video because I’m thinking of becoming a school counselor. I also live in Washington state and I was wondering which college you went to for grad school. Another question I had was based on your coursework for grad school, what undergrad major would you recommend? Education or psychology? Finally, do you think teaching experience is necessary to succeed in becoming a school counselor? I would really appreciate it if you answered these questions, thanks!
I'm a bit camera shy but you've inspired me! If you do make another video please address the biggest challenges you've had and what you like about your school.

Do school counselors work the same hours as a teacher? Such as a 10 month schedule and typically when school opens and closes for the day?
Yes, however, teachers work more off campus (grading and preparing new material)

c Alexis I'm excited for you! Elementary counselors do some great work with younger kiddos that is difficult to do at the secondary level.

Can yo be a school counselor with any type of MS as long as it has counseling as a title degree ?
No has to be school counseling if you want to work for a government funded public school. Private schools can make exceptions

Thanks, Mr. Albert! You should start a school counselor channel, too!
