Not in Harris county. HPD makes at least $63000 starting off and Harris county deputies only make 54,000. Now what does that tell you. Lina would rather throw money at programs. Detention officers only get paid $18hr to deal will dangerous criminals 24/7 the jail is own a -500 officers and at least 500 or more deputies are missing from the street. Old heads are starting to retire. All of those late 80s and 90s officers are starting to cash in their pension.
Harris counties budget has not. They have built more facilities for mental and started inmate programs, but have not paid deputies or detention officers nearly what they should be paid. We are 20% behind what the national average is for police office and we are the third largest sheriff’s office in the nation. Lina Hildago has to go!!!!! We missed out on yet another huge pay raise. We have only recieved 4% pay raise. Btw we are losing good officers to other departments that make 30 thousand or more extra than us. We are over worked and are forced to work overtime and even have to beg to take off for mental health and to see our families. I even have to work 30 hours of overtime to have a decent salary and still not enough and I work night shift and have to immediately work overtime after my long shift.. good luck if I get a late arrest..
