Trek FX3 Disc (2021) - Long Term Review

- The FX3 disc is a high range entry bicycle from Trek. It is a great bike for commuting as well as cross country riding. I have ridden more than 2000km on this bike in total and here I am sharing my long term impressions of this amazing bicycle.

Nice review, thanks. Wanted to see what someone thought about it after I purchased one 4 months ago. Couple of comments:
I also swapped the pedals for a metal set but that was only because I couldn't connect a set of toe cages. Cages are definitely worth looking into in case you still have slippage issues.
Secondly, I moved to this 2x9 gear setup from a 3x8 and whilst it's fine most of the time, I'm no longer able to move up or down a whole set without also having to change a gear or two... as you might expect, there are bigger variations between the sets which I had not considered. For that reason, I would love to go back to 3x8, but there you go, that's life.

Great review. Personally I just booked the FX2 - I understand some of the components of FX3 2021 version have been updated onto FX2 and there is some price bump as well. I wish you a safe and joyous riding for years to come.
Are you saying you just ordered one now? What is the ETA? I ordered an fx-3 last April, and the shop never received one until mid Dec. Being that close to Christmas, I had to pass it over. In Mid Jan. I tried finding another one but had zero luck. I did, however find a fx-2 & a fx-4. I went with the fx-4 but was told by the shop that they weren't expecting anymore this year. I hope you get it soon, and I'm sure you'll love it. Here in Canada, the fx line of bikes are hard to come by.
I have the 2021 Trek fx3 (with a 2x9) and it’s an incredibly good bike. I genuinely think it’s the best bike you can buy for the money. The only thing I can criticise is the seat, which could be comfortable. That’s it. It’s a fantastic bike.

I have the 2023 fx3 disk stagger and finished the 25 mile hotter n hell ride in Wichita falls TX. The bike preformed amazing.

Thanks for the longer term review, i'm looking at the 2023 model with the single front chainring. It looks like the best value in that price bracket.

This was a great review for me. I was in a dilemma about FX Disc vs. FX Dual Sport. I think the point about the suspension was what I was missing in all other reviews.

This is an excellent review as I am torn between my Trek Marlin 5, which I love, and choosing this bike. The only difference is speed, comfort and weight of the FX. But, I may choose to add a more traditional road bike. Thank you.
If your choosing between thoes two then get a dual sport. Faster on road and has front suspension 60mm.

My daily ride is daily 25 kms . Age 63
Almost 19 kms per hour
Presently using btwin Hybrid Riverside 120

One fault I have found is the ISOzone grips - they degrade and become very sticky! Has anyone else come across this?

..and the 2022 TREK FX 2 has been upgraded to this bikes standards!! So,..it ..the 2022 TREK FX 2!! .is a fine bike for the price improve with a reliable Aluminum Front Fork to go with the Gold Aluminum Frame! In which i feel is more durable in the long run than a Carbon Fiber + not much difference in weight. Ride like he suggested here and one won’t notice much difference on bumpy surfaces between the two bikes! So check out the TREK FX2 before you throw down a bit more money for minor changes! FX 3 is Cool😎don’t get me wrong,..it’s a fine one too but just merely more expensive for what?..a Carbon Fork!?🤨..but that commented,..just get what you like but for me it’s the 2022 FX 2 XL‼️ in TREK’s “QuickSilver” !! b(‘ _
I have owned two trek hybrids with aluminum forks. If you are riding on poorly paved roads I highly recommend carbon fork. It was well worth the small price increase. I cant wait to get my 2022 fx 3! Never picking an aluminum fork ever again

I am buying this bike for my wife. She had an older fx 1 or 2 i cant remember but it got stolen 3 years ago. Both she and I are excited to se the FX3

Mine still has a 2X drive train. Wish I had the 1x. I’ve never used the small one except for accidentally shifting down lol

trek fx2 2022 , trek fx3 2022 which is the best cycle?
32c tyres works well on gravel path. I use 25c ralson tyres which is also working fine on off roads.
I would go to at least 37 or 38 tires if riding this bike on an unimproved path. I have this model and a similar Norco and they occasionally are ridden on unimproved trails/paths, and those tires do reasonably well on them.

The FX3 is a single chain ring, 10 speed.
FX3 with single chainring and 10 speeds = model 2022.
The one in the video is an FX3 model 2021.

thanks for the good review. I usually ride a Trek Fuel EX 8. However, I can't get my son on it here. So I was looking for a bike that I could use for the city and also for commuting. Gravel would be nice but doesn't really matter. For that I would take the Fuel Ex again.
What I totally understand is your point of view on the fork. I have now ordered an FX3 Disc EQ. I'm curious how the narrow tires will do when I have a child seat on the luggage rack. (I would definitely prefer the bike naked, but I need the luggage rack.) Is there anything you noticed that you have to look out for when using the bike that you shouldn't overlook? Especially when I want to carry bags on the fork, maybe for bike packing? Many greetings from Germany
