Thank you so much, Raki, for sharing this valuable information.
I wish this video had been available a year ago as it would have saved me a lot of struggle in finding all this information. It was quite a time-consuming process to open a bank account and register for other services. Nevertheless, this information will be immensely beneficial to everyone planning on coming to Finland. Excellent work. The presentation of the information is nearly flawless in its order and clarity.

Hi Raki. Can we make the appointment for both DVV and police ID on the same day? Also until banking credentials are created, what can we use to pay for stuff if cash is not accepted? What about LK debit card?

Hey! You can open a bank account with just a passport and may even get access to online banking. But, you cannot use these credentials to login to other online public services like Kela, Vero, DVV etc.

Thanks for explaining it very clearly.
I have a few questions to clarify from the video.
    1. Should I wait until the DVV registration to be completed in order to book the police ID appointment? Or can I go to DVV today and go to the police station tomorrow for ID appointment?
    2. How to manage your requirements (ex. Shopping) in the first two months without a bank account in Finland?
Pls be kind enough to clarify. Thanks 🙏

      Hey very good questions.
      1. So, you can book an appointment at the police station at any time, but your address has to be registered on the system for them to process your ID card. My advice would be to make an appointment date about 4-6 weeks after you’ve visited the DVV office.
Note: For many public services, if you make an appointment and not show up, without cancelling it at least 48 hours before, you will be charged a fine, a minimum of 50e.
      2. For this I recommend using an online Banking service like Revolut/ Wise. They provide you with a digital banking account with an IBAN, an a virtual card that can be used on any smart phone.

      1. The DVV registration is a crucial prerequisite, as you cannot secure a police card without it.
      2. It's also important to activate your credit cards for overseas use. If you're a student, banks will typically permit you to use these until the end of your study period. However, if you're coming for work, they're likely to restrict this facility to just six months.
Opening accounts with Wise and Revolut cannot be accomplished while you are in Sri Lanka. You need to be here in Finland. Once you're here, you can obtain an IBAN from either Wise or Revolut, but they will request address verification details. For Wise, you will need a bank statement with that address. Revolut is a bit more lenient, typically just requiring a Finnish phone number. However, be aware that banks in Sri Lanka may not permit someone (like your parents or friends) to transfer money into these accounts unless you are a student.
The most practical solution is to either open a student file while you're still in Sri Lanka or establish a foreign currency account with any bank.
Best option is to activate your cards overseas. You can get CC even with a FD.
      Hope this helps.

The time they usually specify is 16-24 weeks, at least in Helsinki. But this can also vary in other cities. If you come together, try to apply together and sometimes you could get a faster result.

Both of us are coming together. Both of us did not get personal id codes. Can't we find jobs until personal id codes come?

    • @rakidedigama
      @rakidedigama  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Most jobs (part-time / full time) will require you to have DVV registration / Person ID to give you a working contract.
Although, there may be part-time / temporary opportunities that do not require this.
If at least one of you are coming for work/study, your DVV registration will be prioritized and you will most likely get it in one month.
